Can't agree for a moment about that. The Palo album was a misstep as was Seventh Swamphony, a bit of a stumble in an unseen hole hidden by the reeds. After having listened to this band since 2002, this band started to lose me on Seventh Swamphony and then really lost me on this Palo album. Finally with the self-titled upcoming album it seems they've returned to form, however. Very glad to hear that, so they can go out with a bang and not a whimper.

0.59-3.03: The man felt in love with the local lady and looking to propose her for marriage. He isn't a rich man and could only show his devotion by trying to dress nice, picking flowers from the wild, and made a handmade necklace. Of course, after she saw what the man could offered to her she refuse.

Not always. Their earlier works are better, and they've had a few sub-par albums in the later years.
@@ZonZorZerx I agree, this song is quite boring. Kalmah used to always deliver, but Palo is kind of a disappointment. It's not a bad album, but I think that the guys' problem is that they are running out of fresh ideas, in other words they don't concentrate enough to developing their skills and learning about new music.
The best bands keep evolving and trying out new ideas, but still keeping their own style. Just look at Nightwish or Amorphis: they are prime examples of bands that challenge themselves constantly, and that's why they just keep getting better and better with each album. Other bands like Kalmah and COB, which both of used to be amazing, are now recycling their old ideas and their best days are way behind.

Every time I start to feel like Kalmah has painted themselves into a corner, they do something out of left field like this, and somehow, they always pull it off. Killer job guys, consistently brilliant stuff.

Today i teached my older sister the difference between "Death Metal (f.e. Cannibal Corpse)" and "Melodic Death Metal (f.e. Kalmah)".
Me: Now i'll play you some death metal.

Me: Ok, then here is some melodic death metal. (my favorite kind of music btw)
-I played her this song.
Her: I hope it's not as bad as the previous one...
-She listened through the hole song without saying anything.
-The song ended.
Her: Hmm... The music is much better but the vocals are the same.
Me: So do you like this kind of music?
Her: NO, the vocals are awefull! In the end it's the same like that before.
Me: WHAT?? This sound is much deeper and has an actual meaning to Life and Death!
But she didn't understood it and i believe most of the people don't understand what songs like this are about.
They only hear the screams and loundness, but they never listen deep into a song like this. But thankfully there are many folks out there who appreciate these artists.

There is an incredible amount of variety in extreme metal. People have to find their own progression path.
Can't blame her to be honest. Took me years to get used to, and I'm still not a fan of 90% of extreme vocals. To be fair, I'm not a fan of 90% of clean male vocals either))
Now, in my experience gothic doom with deep juicy growl - like Septic Flesh, Tristania, Draconian, Theater of Tragedy - normally has the best effect on the uninitiated. Even if they don't exactly like it, they're usually somewhat impressed. I guess it's the contrast with the clean female voice, classic "beauty and the beast" style that does the trick, and generally the right application of growl artistically in such context

There are no main male vocalists but still extreme vocals.
@@TheCruelDead well, maybe it's because I'm not that much of a fan of extreme to begin with, but I don't, to be honest, hear that much difference between most male and female screams or higher growls. And all my favorite extreme vocals are deep low growls (like Nergal or Avelstam) that a woman's body seems to be physically incapable of producing. At the same time, as far a as stage performance, I do enjoy an image of perfect conflux between femeninity and power, like Alyssa can present.

I have to be honest, this song is quite boring. Kalmah is still great, but they are recycling their stuff too much. They should really take some new approaches to composing when writing their next album
I used to dig these guys, but the more I listen to them, they are boring as hell. The guitar melodies are generic for the genre, as are the monotonous vocals. Older In Flames and Soilwork make this sound amateur. Dark Tranquility as well.
