    Travelling to Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica. Here's how to get there from San Jose, your various travel options and the costs involved with getting to Santa Teresa:
    Itinerary:
    - North Coast Dominican Republic (Playa Encuentro) to Santo Domingo: 4.5 hours via Caribe Tours bus ($7)
    - Flight (via Panama) to San Jose: 2.5 hours to Panama, 2 hour layover and 1.5 hours to San Jose via Copa Airlines ($269, plus $177 for a surfboard bag!)
    - 1.5 hour taxi from San Jose to Puntarenas to get the ferry ($26.5)
    - 70 minute ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera, Nicoya Peninsula ($1.5 or 800 Colones)
    - 1.25 hour taxi from ferry landing at La Nicoya to Santa Teresa beach ($14)
    Once you get to San Jose there are other options to get to Santa Teresa. You can get the bus which costs $12 but takes 6 hours, not including the wait for the bus or the cost of a taxi to the bus station from the airport.
    Alternatively you can either fly, or take a taxi speedboat from Jaco. Although this would depend on the time that you arrive in San Jose as a lot of the taxi boats leave in the morning.
    Timecodes:
    0:00 - San Jose Airport
    1:58 - Copa Airlines to San Jose, Costa Rica
    4:07 - Taxi to Puntarenas
    5:09 - Puntarenas to Paquera Ferry

    Well, you found the best area of CR to visit or live in. If you get a chance, take an ATV over to Montezuma. A little laid back hippy haven. Santa Teresa is great. Enjoy the people and the surf.

    • @WiththeSparrows
      @WiththeSparrows  3 года назад

      @Joe Lapierre yeah I'm a big fan of the area. We're hiring an ATV this week to explore Montezuma and also places like playa hermosa that are just a little too far on foot.....ATVs are expensive here though ($60-70 USD a day)! Know any good rental places???

    Super helpful thank you! Was it simple getting the taxi from San Jose to Puntarenas or did you book someone ahead?

    • @WiththeSparrows
      @WiththeSparrows  3 года назад +1

      @Robert Parker glad you found it useful! Simple would be an understatement, we were going to get a taxi from the Juan Santamaría airport to the bus station and when we got in the taxi he simply offered to drive us to Puntarenas instead.
      There are lots of taxis at the airport so you won't have any trouble finding someone who wants to take you to Puntarenas (or elsewhere), you just have to be prepared to pay the price!

      @Delfina Anneleri - You can use GuateGo to check your options (guatego.com/). From memory I think they leave, starting at 6.30am but stop at around midday. Maybe every hour or two but I'm not entirely sure.

    Sick man, how long you in costa for?
    I’ll probably be there early April too. Also airlines are scammers always do your research what air line has no charge for surfboards.

    • @WiththeSparrows
      @WiththeSparrows  3 года назад

      @Bryan Bonilla in Costa Rica till at least 3rd or 4th April then might head to Nicaragua but I'm fairly flexible. Where are you going to be?
      Unfortunately the flight options were fairly limited and most airlines charge you for surfboards for short haul flights - you just have to accept it!

      @Bryan Bonilla nice, sounds like you've got a plan. Yeah I've heard the Caribbean side is really nice, but not quite a consistent. Plus I've just spent three months in the Caribbean so quite enjoying the Pacific side at the moment. Probably going to be in Santa Teresa area for the next couple of weeks. If I'm in your area at all in April I'll give you a shout!

    What's the name of the port? Looking through the same thing in August and definitely can't drive 6 hrs to Santa Teresa.

    • @WiththeSparrows
      @WiththeSparrows  3 года назад

      @Mrs. D. Which port? The ferry leaves from Puntarenas on the mainland and arrives in Paquera on the Nicoya Peninsula side. You can also fly from San Jose to Tambor (I believe it's about $100 USD each way and takes about 35 minutes!).

  • @tyasiashamblee8146

    Do you remember where exactly in Puntarenas do you have to go to catch the ferry ? I’m traveling to Costa Rica without renting a car.

    • @WiththeSparrows
      @WiththeSparrows  2 года назад +1

      @Tyasia Shamblee - ummm it's just the ferry port in Puntarenas, if you're getting a taxi there then they will know where it is. Otherwise the bus goes directly to the port.
      Here's a Google Maps link: goo.gl/maps/8i6z6FVsKnjU4FLT7
      Also, I saw a comment on the location of the tide pools in Mal Paìs but can't seem to find it now. It doesn't come up on Google Maps but if you head South from Playa Carmen and then take a right after the yoga place on your left, you head down to the beach. Take a left across the rocks for about 500m and the tide pools are there.
      Enjoy!
