Franklin Tour Series Review! Did Franklin Make a Good Pickleball Paddle or Another Flop?

  • The end of 2023 brings us the latest pickleball paddle launch from Franklin. I was skeptical at first how this series would turn out because Franklin has had an interesting past two years in the sport of pickleball paddles. They are late to the thermoformed paddle game but I believe they landed a good series of paddles. These paddles are all on the heavier side, so they will not be for everyone.
    Players looking for a pro-weighted thermoformed paddle should not be scared of Franklin’s past because this series is a great option for the $150 price point.
    If you have any questions or comments I’d love to hear them.

    If you want to make the paddle handle feel longer try wrapping an overgrip further up the neck of the paddle since the paddle taper angle makes a big difference in how it feels. The volair mach 1 feels longer than it is because the neck tapers narrower allowing you to choke up further on the neck than say the forza mach 2 which tapers much wider. The mach 2 handle feels shorter even though the handles are functionally the same length

    Thanks for the review, I got my Dynasty 14mm in today! Played for about 2 hours. I agree with you on the pop on the 14mm, it feels effortless at the kitchen. The sweet spot is definitely larger than my last paddle. I love the finger inlay on the grip. My last paddle was a 10mm fiberglass (Franklin Pilot) so it will take some time for me to soften up my grip to start hitting drops/resets again. Spin on my serve has definitely improved. I will reply to this message in a few weeks once I test it compare it to a Selkirk Invikta Power Air.

      Glad you enjoyed the review, look forward to the report back and how you like them against each other. The grip is one of my favorites too.

      @@AllDriveNoDropPickleball After two weeks of playing about 3 hours a day, every day, I can honestly say I have zero regrets. I played some decent time with the Selkirk Invikta Power Air (SIPA) for this comparison. The difference is night and day. The grip on the franklin is far better and the feel/touch for drops is immensely better. The SIPA obviously is more expensive, but playing with the SIPA felt like I was holding a $70 paddle (don't hate me lol) and the sweet spot is definitely smaller on the SIPA than the Dynasty 14. I really tried to be objective in this, and it's my personal opinion. I have no ties to any brand. The franklin just all around feels better to me. Side note, the Franklin's edge protection seems to be holding up very well compared to reviews of their previous model, the Carbon STK. Did anyone else have a similar experience, or am I alone in this?

    The major testing sites say the Tempos have more Power than the Dynastys. In fact, the 14mm Tempo falls into the 87th percentile of Power (Drive speed). Just wondering how you define "average power?"

      I just think an addendum in the comments is warranted. I think you owe it to your subscribers, and I also think you owe it to Franklin. When a company puts out a great product at a terrific price I think they should get props, or at the very least accuracy.
      I am also interested in the 12mm, thank you 😊

    You spoke really highly of the 16mm but prefer the 14mm? Which one is better for singles? How does the 14mm compare with other paddles like the Joola Perseus or Selkirks?

    • @AllDriveNoDropPickleball
      @AllDriveNoDropPickleball  5 месяцев назад +1

      If I were picking one of these for singles it would be the Dynast Tour 14mm because I think for most the 16mm will just be too heavy. My preferred paddle for singles under $150 is the Hurrache-X Control for elongated or the Honolulu J2K Pro for hybrid

      @@AllDriveNoDropPickleball I am a former tennis player so don't mind the extra weight. I actually use a Hudef Viva Pro Gen 2 paddle...I like 16mm but kind of think a more solid feeling from a 14mm might be better for me? Not really a fan of the plush feeling of some paddles

    Cool, let us know the twistweight, but not the width. Let us know the grip length, but not the total length, nor the grip circumference. Did ya pick your specs out of a hat orrrr???

      He did let you know about the length and width of the paddles. It says it right there under elongated and standard. Every standard width paddle is going to be 16 inches long and 8 inches wide and every elongated paddle is 16.5 inches long and 7.5 inches wide. If you don’t know that then you must be pretty new to the paddle space and if you are new to the paddle space then speak with some humility because you clearly dont know everything. Twist weight is also a really good measurement for a whole variety of reasons so don’t shit on him for things YOU don’t know.
