  • The Embraer E190 is one of the faces of modern commercial aviation.
This model is the second largest of the popular E-Jet line from Embraer, the Brazilian manufacturer best known for sub 100-seat “regional jets." Seating up to 114 passengers, the Embraer E190 is a stretch of the E170, and also shares its platform with the E175 and the E195-the E175 most common in the United States and wildly popular with regional carriers.
Powered by two GE CF34-10E6 engines, the E190 measures 119 ft / 36 m in length and 35 ft / 11 m high, with a 94 ft / 29 m wingspan and weighing about 61,000 lb / 28,000 kg empty. It serves a market once dominated by the Douglas DC-9 and the Boeing 737-200, now mostly competing with the Airbus A220-100 in its current generation, the E190-E2.
The E190 entered service in 2005 with JetBlue Airways. Since then, Embraer produced 568 copies of first-generation E190s until 2022, with 21 copies of the E2 generation from 2013. But the first-generation E190 (E1) is gradually departing U.S. skies, having been retired by American Airlines-acquired from US Airways-and now demoting to charter service for Breeze Airways.
Citing slightly better range and economics over the E2, JetBlue is currently phasing out their E190 E1s in favor of the A220-300 (formerly the Bombardier CS300).
