Matt Jones was the worst thing to happen to Kentucky basketball, now losing cal is the worst ever.
Cal didn't feel wanted or supported??!! Well many of us didn't feel he put the program first and disconnected and talked down to the fans. We supported the University of Kentucky Basketball program. Not individuals, but the whole team representing our program. Cal asked to lose support himself by his actions and words.
After beating down tenn on the road he had a lot of the fanbase on his side until he opened his mouth right after the game and said I don’t care about the sec tourney. Why even say that? You can think it all you want but he knows after 15 years how much that means to the fans and saying that just shows how out of touch he was with the fans and the university. His ego got bigger than his coaching ability. Everybody loves you when you win and you can say what ever you want. When you ain’t winning nobody wants to hear anything from you they want you to win. That’s what you are paid to do and that’s it.

Kentucky fans are happy to have some kids on their team who will potentially be NBA all-stars, but they want the kids to accomplish more here first.

Exactly, the Coach doesn't wear a uniform, if the kids he recruits misses shots, that's on them. The only thing I thought he was doing wrong was...not starting Reed and Dillingham. He gets the top 5 recruiting class every year, when they only stay one year, how can he get an experienced team, I still remember Shannon Sharpe, sit the whole year on the bench, then he goes pro... never played one game as a Wildcat. I'm sure Calipari never thought that he would leave without even playing 1 game, when he recruited him. I think UK will regret his leaving, because now we all have to wait and see who stays...who goes... I'm only certain of 1 coming back...and that's Reed Sheppard.

@@dannysmith4447 I don’t have your optimism about Reed Sheppard. He’s projected to be a lottery pick, and NBA contracts are guaranteed. The goal in the league is to get to the second contract as quickly as possible, where the big money is.

That was made by Mitch. Why people have faith in Mitch to do the right thing is beyond me. He has been forced into making every good decision while he has been at UK. Look what happens when he has full control. We have a coach handcuffed to us with the insane buyout yet if he leaves we get nothing for the investment. Great contract. Mitch is the reason we are in this mess. Mitch was the reason he passed on cal the first time and hired Billy g. Mitch is the reason our football facilities were never upgraded and it took stoops telling him he wouldn’t come and nobody else would come unless they were done. We didn’t even have a recruiting room for the football facilities and tee Martin would take recruits to the basketball facilities trying to recruit football players. Mitch needs to go as well. He has had so many opportunities to do the right thing and be a leader and every single time he has failed. And before somebody says anything about the small sports, nobody cares. They are fun little sports but if you want those sports to stick around you have to invest highly in the ones that fund everything for the university.
@cordercorder8785 I am so glad they got Cal over Donovan because Donovan has NO LOYALTY, he's a Pitino guy. So you automatically shouldn't trust him. And I'm scared they are gonna try to get him now and if they do, it will be another dumpster fire. Go with a newer, younger head coach. They need someone to salvage the recruiting class and I think someone like a Penny Hardaway or even taking a leap of faith and hiring a first time head coach. Boogie said he thinks Rondo should get a call and I agree. I also think that JJ Redick is another guy he'd be very good with connecting with younger players.

Considering that Ky pays more then any other school and has more booster support or at least as much as any other school, and we are the most winningest program in ncaa history with the 2nd most championships then all schools out there except for UCLA, but yeah it’s no longer a premier job Lol
Nate oats turning it down means nothing, Nate oats knows his contract buy out is likely not to happen anyways, which I agree with. As far as jay, he has a comfy job making all the money he needs or wants. Plus he is in his 60s now.

Do. Not. Hire. Scott. Drew. Please. Dude is Dollar Store Cal. He recruits well but only won one ship, and that was because covid helped him keep players that would've otherwise went to the league. He's a good person, great ambassador for any program, but UK needs a coach with an edge and Drew isn't it. I actually think Chris Beard is the best option. Hurley, Oats, Wright, and Billy D arent coming and if they do, it'll be expensive, and only Hurley and Oats may succeed because theyre currently in the coaching landscape with NIL.

Cal will make the final four before Kentucky does, Arkansas will look like we did in Cals first couple of years. Kentucky will win a title before Cal and Kentucky will always out shine Cal in the long run of history though.
Jay Wright already said no verbally as Seth Davis challenged the question for the UK job. so that’s off the table. Billy hasn’t coached in over a decade, left for the reasons why college sports are (now) being destroyed. the AD apparently has ties with Scott Drew. he’s a great coach won a championship with no fans in the stands. Much rather see a team of transfers that have some experience and play hard and can make it deep into the tournament. Who cares about the NBA draft. Did one and done work out before? We always got beat by teams who had more experience. This is the change that was needed long ago. Surprised they let him stay this long.

Cal couldn’t do it here anymore! He won’t be able to at Arkansas because his ultimate style of defense really depends on the other team playing bad. He’s easy to plan and prepare for. Oakland s coach said it best. We couldn’t have got a better draw. His defensive game plan is secondary to offense. In college ball. The offense starts on the defensive side of the ball.

I think Scott Drew seems like the best fit for Kentucky...seems the most stable, the one who'd stay the longest, wouldn't bring a brash personality, seems to be able to recruit and develop. Don't think the personality of Hurley is a fit, Donovan I don't know...doesn't really seem interested maybe in the college game as much.
Has anybody mentioned offering coach Dawn Staley from South Carolina, only one woman ever coached Mens Ncaa basketball...Teresa Phillips at tennessee state AND she only coached ONE GAME wow....

Hire Mark Pope and have him put former UK National Championship players from the Pitino Era at UK! Pope should use the same playbook that Pitino had! We will get better at our uptempo style and press full court and we will recruit to this style and we will challenge for titles in the near future!!!

Cal is right, most intelligent fans no longer want to support his building a legacy, separate from the university. He will go to Arkansas, and continue to further the only legacy cares about. How many players he puts in the NBA. Period. Now he is Arkansas' headache. Let them get excited about 5* classes, playground level offense/defense, questionable losses, early tournament exits, and NBA draft night.

When Pitino bolted for the Celtics in ‘97, I told every one of my fellow UK fans that Billy Donovan was the obvious choice to replace him. IMHO, it made perfect sense. Pitino was the professor and Billy was his prized pupil. Most of my friends agreed with that assessment, some didn’t. Billy went to Florida, won back to back titles and made the logical/expected jump to the pros. Tubby won it all in ‘98 with Pitino’s players and hasn’t really done much else, since.
Now, Donovan’s no spring chicken. Those “Billy the Kid” days are very much in the rear view mirror. I know he’s a lot closer to the end of his coaching career than the beginning. I also know that it’s unlikely for an NBA coach to return to the college ranks but I still believe he’d be a great fit at UK. Just my two cents.

Okay, I think it’s obvious that we want a Pitino style basketball🤔 So, if we could hire Pitino for 5 years while having him train Assistant Coach John Pelphry to take over after Pitino. Or,
Have Pitino call Billy Donavan to guide him to Kentucky, because Billy would listen to Rick, and still have Pelphry as an assistant to take over after Donavan.

Calipari was a horrible coach, always was. His number 1 priority was never to win championships. He focused so much on prioritizing a players NBA stock that it effected player minutes and even starting positions. There were many poor examples of his abilities that were igored. Words spoken in post game interviews confirmed things we always feared were true. What's worse is he was able to sell his boss on his inept coaching abilities when what matters are wins and championships. Even in the end when so few wanted Calipari there and even Calipari was ready to go, Mitch still didn't have the fortitude to make a proper decision. Yes Calipari was a problem but the real issue was the boss and thus we need to call for a resignation by Mitch or call for his firing.
