This is not a game changer as before, but rather following the trends / good practices. Geo - needed. Mullet - predictable. Larger suspension - to be expected. TCU upgrade - ok, but I don't know if it changes a lot. Engine - following the stability and predictability rather after the failures of the previous version. Definitely a good direction. Damn expensive, better, probably still going to lead the way in testing and use. What would be most important - maybe this generation will be more stable and there will be no need to extend the warranty.
Interesting. I like the TCU approach - changing micro settings without taking your phone out. Nice. All the adjustability making it a one bike for all situations. The motor - basically the 2021 already fixed and upgraded 2.1 version - they had to give a new name of course. Calling it "2.2" tells the whole story, I think. Price is... just... wow... stupid. Starting at 8k pounds? 9k euros then? For the base model or do the bikes start with Comp now? That's what I paid for a used S Works 2020 model 😅. Since the 2021 model prices got raised a fair bit (almost 1000€ for the Expert) after launch, I think they overpriced the bike for '22.
I like the shorter chainstays and more progressive rear suspension, I upgraded my 2020 with a Float X2 to combat how it would bottom easily. Was hoping they would drop some weight, but lots of nice improvements.

That said, not sure I could ever buy one of these. "Settled" on a YT Decoy Shred. I'll take the extra 2 pounds and deal with the slightly smaller battery for a 50% discount in price.
Looks sensational! But SO expensive! I would worry over being robbed with a bike like that. After being robbed at the store. :) Seriously, it´s a dreambike for sure. The combination of high price and the low stock in shops will mean that I´ll never see one in real life though. I am just lucky I have my trusty Haibike from 2019. Last year was insane in regard of how few bikes actually was sent to retailers here. I am not sure 2021 will be a better year. It is great to have your videos to watch, it allowes us to see that innovation and new bikes are still coming. Good work!
Really well presented, edited and produced. I thought it was so detailed yet still had a carefully chosen script to not overdo it so I was utterly convinced that honesty was evident. A bike this price must be at the top end of indulgence so I see how hard it must have been to hold back the gushing. Maybe the price tag had something to do with that, but maybe, ..just maybe it might be worth that?
I watched your vid about 2019 levo. Thought, this guy is awesome and I like the bike. Went out and bought one..... Bruv, I can't shell out $15000.... But you still an awesome presenter.
And some people were saying the Bullit was expensive....It's looking like a nice ride with some nifty little touches, but i'm glad i've put my deposit down on the Santa Cruz in XXL, as the S6 still doesn't come up to scratch for the taller riders.
Excellent review Rob. You picked up on some great features of the new Levo. Will be watching for what improvements happen to the 2022 version of the SL.
I love my 2019 Levo Expert and I'm glad they are financing my motor warranty replacement with 2022 models proceeds so when my motor fails again the company won't be bankrupt! #LovingLevo
Awesome Video Again Rob, nearly like it as much as beat your screen time video, love the bike though I think people will have a easier time (gulp) with the price if you are able to update the TCU battery etc so when they spend this much on an amazing bike they arent having to change 2 years later to keep up with electronics/tech etc. Great lighting, Great Music, Great Presentation and camera work still smashing it Rob ! Just to add a few days after this comment Looks like Specialized are going to sell the screen for older Levo's and kenevo's, high five Specialized ! for making it backwards compatible ! Awesome !just to say have now been on one, and well best bike I have ever riden !
Great info Rob, and great that you mention the motor issues on previous models. I have a Turbo Levo S-works from 2020 and had 4 motor swaps. Im currently waiting on a 5th as the same issue that sounds as its coming from the belt / cogs. Im realy at a loss, but I hope Specialized will honor me with a version of their new 2021 motor that hopefully will last.
Rob, thanks for this. Exciting indeed. The motor - I do hope the bearings are better and the ‘waterproofing’ works having had to return a 2020 Levo with the 2.1 and all the upgrades for a full refund after 14 months of horrible electrics (the ride was fun). I’ve replaced with a Santa Cuz Bullit S build..... Same price as the Specialized entry level and the EP8 in real world riding is very similar to the Brose (yes, it won’t win silly races up fire roads, but on the 98% of hills that are ridden by the 98% of riders, the EP8 is a match for the Brose to within an easily forgettable whisper0. Up hill, the Bullit is a whole generation better than the 2020 Levo and remember the Bullit is 170 front and rear. Downhill and on Singletrack, thanks to modern frame and motor location design, the S is way more of a bike than I can exploit - taking coaching for that - whereas the 2020 Levo wasn’t able to keep up with me.... It’ll be interesting to hear over next few months if the Gen 3 Levo will match a Bullit all round. As the same price for the S as the new Gen 3, let’s see... I hear the 2022 Bullit prices are going up a bit and I don’t know about the specs.
you made the right choice, Santa Cruz has become a much more reasonable brand when it comes to pricing(yes they are still expensive, but at least you can have some confidence in the bike not falling a part when buying one)
Just 2 months my 2021 Turbo Levo and I need a new rear derailleur .The gears started grinding when I was shifting .Stopped to check it and one of the arms that support the jockey wheel was broken. Guy at the shop said the arm was worn like a rock had been logged in it. So no warranty. Fortunately they have the part and I should have it back tomorrow.
Great video Rob. I own a 2020 S-Works Turbo Levo and wanted to upgrade to the 2022 version. BUT looking at what they have done to the price is just crazy and makes me angry. No upgrade for me.
That’s cool but honestly I spent big money on my trek rail 9.8, put a 180 fox factory 38 and X2, on it along with an AXS shifter and it’s basically the same bike but with the better bosch Gen 4 for about $3,000 cheaper...just saying. I like specialized’s new integrated screen, but otherwise it looks like the old model. Don’t like the Uber bulky motor area that screams ebike. Trek is still better looking IMO.
Great video Rob. For an S-WORKS that colour scheme looks poor to me, as they usually pop and look expensive to even a layman. Meanwhile the upgrades and improvement made all appear to make sense and to a degree were expected. I recently waited a long 7 months for my 2021 Levo, due to covid and the extra demand. Specialized added a very cheeky second price increase 4 months in which got very little coverage, luckily my bike shop honoured the price when my deposit was taken. I was hoping you was going to touch on their plans for a full range, as I know initially brands launch their top end models first and it would have possibly reduced us all moaning about the price of the bikes, but hey they do have us over a price point barrel. I can see loads of Gen 2 owners, like me going mullet and asking if the TCU can be updated? Keep up the quality channel.
Hey Rob, great vid as always, and anyone that just thinks you are advertising a product doesn't either listen or watch your channel regularly. But this is a shame, Spesh in my view are heading the wrong way. I have a Levo (as have put before) gen 2 i guess, 2018 carbon, was £5k i have changed the geometry with longer ZEB fork, have Ohlins coil shock, crank Bros eBike wheelset etc. Zero issues with motor on my bike after a few BPW and other park trips and hundreds of miles. Over £10k for a bike that will be out of date in 12-24months is nuts, tbh i'm still pssd they don't offer a battery upgrade for my bike (??). Most of us governed buy price not just the best at any cost. If buying now I wouldn't buy a Spesh even though really they are still the benchmark. That bike for me just isn't worth the $$$$, after all ride is everything.
I mountain bike to escape thinking about life’s pressures, among them money and the evils of marketing and material pursuits of happiness. Owning this would make me 1) think about the bike more than the ride, 2) have buyer’s remorse, 3) think I am cool again, 4) make others think I am a yuppie, 5) make me want to sell it, 6) make me a sucker, 7) make me bum out when it is’t the best bike anymore. Finally it would fog up my sense of what I can do.
I really hope they are using apple’s trick of overpricing the high end models (think gold apple watch) to make the soon to come out lower end models look like a deal.
With the price increase, im happy to still have 2 years left on my 2019 levo. I will be waiting for the warranty to run out, before I upgrade to another. I know there's a big selection to choose from nowadays, but I find specialized to have the best customer service, and that my friend's, is priceless with a emtb 💯😉
Good info. I just don't see the improvements to the Gen 2 justifying the Gen 3 price. I cannot help but think the price for a Specialized that has a significant weight reduction to the motor and battery along with increased riding time in all modes. I ride dirt bikes and this bicycle costs more than a KTM or Husky. I just wish these two brand would decide to sell their e-mtb's in the United States.
$15,000 is insane. In 1997 I bought the most expensive bike you could buy. A Kestrel rubicon with Kooka cranks. Ringle stem/post/headset/stem/bars. Magura brakes, Judy DH, Ringle hubs, etc. Literally the best of everything. It cost $5,000 at the time. Inflation adjusted that's $8,350 today. The kestrel was made in USA. This Specialized is made in China. We're getting screwed
I'm so glad I brought my Status 160 so I can acclimate myself to the mullet style of riding. Super hyped for the new Levo but MY DAYZ, THEY'RE EXPENSIVE!!!!!. I'll have to give this some proper thought as to whether I buy one. And in the grand scheme of things, it's not like it has rendered the previous models obsolete. Looking forward to your comparison video between the the new model and the previous model rob. Keep up the vids mate and keep on shredding 🤘
Good presentation Rob. How is it that my 2018 carbon comp levo has been a Mullet with 150mm cranks and a super quiet reliable powerful smooth software updated motor for over 3 years now with a TCD glued on the top tube. What did I and they know in 2018 before specialized went backwards, only to get back on track now. I like the adjustable steering head and chainstay. All done before in 1970's on Can-Am motorcycles. E=Mtb²
For all you praising Rob for this video, please keep in mind THIS IS A PAID PROMOTION by Specialized!! This is NOT A REVIEW! .Rob was paid by specialized likely due to the large following he has amassed. Kudos rob, I enjoy your reviews. I hope you got some serious money for putting your name behind this promotion.
Hello Rob ! Always a great video and i still have pleasure to watch this kind of video. Regarding what you said on the bike, Specialized has done some huge and welcomed changes. Prices seem to go wild, in my opinion. We'll see the euro conversion. If i had to buy an ebike right now, i think i'd go for the SL version. I'm really looking forward to seeing the same kind of evolution on the SL, and hoping for a quieter motor too ;)
Great vid Rob. I’ve since bought the cobalt blue comp alloy. Regarding the AXS dropper post, I’m 6ft 3 like you. Did you find it long enough. I’m tempted to buy one for my levo
Fantastic bike and so was your video. I am very much a beginner and a tall guy, is your riding style with a low saddle height your preference or is that mtb technique. I don't think your leg is ever close to being extended...just wondering if my own style is incorrect.
Good review Rob, price aside this is another example of manufacturers over committing, we are in Q1 2021 they have released their 2022 bike but yet cannot fulfill current orders for 2021. When will we just get a manufacturer that can supply at point of release. Very infuriating......
At last a decent question. Interesting to see what kind of reply you get . I love my 2019 levo comp. Just upgraded the damper in the revelations to bring them up to pike spec. But they should have gone with the lyriks from the outset. 2000 miles no motor problem so far . Besides the warranty for 2019 motors is now extended to 2023. Gives me a couple of years to think about my next emtb purchase. And I'm hoping for a lighter faster charging 1000wh battery to come along by then..
Rob, Do you find the 170 Axs dropper ok, I'm getting the S4 Turbo levo expert ! I'm 6"0 (183) & will eventually upgrade to the Axs dropper would be good if they had a 200 dropper to come in the near future!!! But is the 170 fine !!! Great vid of the gen 3 turbo levo & I'm probably going to upgrade to Axs shifting with the Axs upgrade kit ( GX );
water ingress on the motor was where the cranks are, no seals on them (watch performance line video where he strips the motor down & beefs up the clutch & adds seals).
Interesting - I have a 2021 with the SLX as well - just got it 3 weeks ago and it’s doing the same thing - skipping on the 4 smallest cogs when under a lot of torque. Ugh - might have to swap out for SRAM.
Great video Rob top quality as for the levos they're stunning bikes when I think of them and compare them to anything else it's like comparing the iPhone to android phones very expensive compared to others that do the same for a better price keep the videos coming great quality lately 👍
NIce review but you didn't even show the controller which I think is one of the features that sets Specialized apart. So ergonomic and unobtrusive got to love it. Its a small thing compared to power and handling but makes a difference when riding and just looking at the bike.
Big question, if my motor breaks on my 2020 Levo, can they replace it with the new motor? Or to put it another way, can you replace a Gen2 motor with a Gen3 unit? Obviously I don't need to say how fantastic the video was, very nice riding and filming. Your production values are just getting better and better.
Rob, did you slice off the battery cover. Mine now on 3rd. It’s a design error. Sliced off like butter when cover is open and pedals reverse. Please comment

Good work!
I've watched three reviews of this bike this morning. Round one to you Bro. You've left the others floundering with gibberish.
love the ride, love how it handles, love the qulaity and love my riding speed choices!!
Fantastic video Rob and bike looks great
Excellent review Rob.
#LovingLevo
Great bike, LOT of money! Think I will be sticking with my 2019 Turbo Levo for a while ! wonder if the new display can be fitted to the old model?
I really think thats the question on everyones mind - can we fit the new tcu on older bikes, maybe even the SL?
They will have made it in such a way, that it is not possible to upgrade
No chance. They will use it as bait to get a new bike. Bet its been knobbled for what is the same motor.
ruclips.net/video/JlGH320ij3Y/видео.html
@@TheCostsboy oh my. Makes me feel like I'll be happy when I fit that!
Nice affordable prices.
😂😂
Yeah really, you can get a superbike for that money 😁
😂😂😂😂
Aaaah amazing vid. Nice to recognize some of the trails, only started riding Swinley last week, I am really enjoying it.
S-Works
The price went up since the video was made!
01:20, £13,000
08/2022: £14,250! 😱
As others have alluded, seems like Specialized is trying to duplicate the Apple model.
Nice video do you prefer your SL or the new levo?
Great info Rob, and great that you mention the motor issues on previous models. I have a Turbo Levo S-works from 2020 and had 4 motor swaps. Im currently waiting on a 5th as the same issue that sounds as its coming from the belt / cogs. Im realy at a loss, but I hope Specialized will honor me with a version of their new 2021 motor that hopefully will last.
I pick mine up on Thursday! Same colour too! Great review Rob....😎
Amazing trails, where was this filmed. Bike looks ok as well
Just 2 months my 2021 Turbo Levo and I need a new rear derailleur .The gears started grinding when I was shifting .Stopped to check it and one of the arms that support the jockey wheel was broken. Guy at the shop said the arm was worn like a rock had been logged in it. So no warranty.
Fortunately they have the part and I should have it back tomorrow.
Great review Rob, lovely bike, glad to see Specialized moving forward.
Yes, its an ugly looking thing.
had me entertained the whole time I was hooked well done
I made micro tune on my gen2 myself a year ago with cheap bluetooth multimedia remote and it is a nice thing to have and looks great
Great video Rob.
Another great video rob! I can see the amount of effort that has gone into filming this👌🏼 keep it up :)
A triumph of marketing over everyday actual need. It’s the equivalent of owning a Range Rover in London.
Or a Lamborghini in Alaska 🤔
There’s no going back after owning an s-works bike. They are so much better than the pleb versions.
@@jacksonwarren Well done Specialized, another prisoner captured
Honestly, all the bikes under 20kg deserve an attention and all the bikes after 20kg are just elephant in the dinning room:)
Another great video. What drone are you using? I want the skydio2 but not available outside usa.
Skydio 2
I really hope they are using apple’s trick of overpricing the high end models (think gold apple watch) to make the soon to come out lower end models look like a deal.
I really hope so too.
Do your homework please, Specialized is not made in China
@@markleemhuis8318 try telling that to china.
Brilliant review Rob best one I’ve seen 👌👌
Rob! Nice Video!!!
what size do you suggest for 5.7 height?
E=Mtb²
Great video! In thanks for talking about the problems in the previous models.... I think that hast to be said
Excellent review. Thanks Rob!
For all you praising Rob for this video, please keep in mind THIS IS A PAID PROMOTION by Specialized!! This is NOT A REVIEW! .Rob was paid by specialized likely due to the large following he has amassed.
Kudos rob, I enjoy your reviews. I hope you got some serious money for putting your name behind this promotion.
looks bloody awesome. But pricey. And access to the battery for replacement?
I'm really looking forward to seeing the same kind of evolution on the SL, and hoping for a quieter motor too ;)
13990 euro
A technical master piece with an astronomical price and an old design... I call It more, marketing masterpiece. ;)
Great vid Rob. I’ve since bought the cobalt blue comp alloy. Regarding the AXS dropper post, I’m 6ft 3 like you. Did you find it long enough. I’m tempted to buy one for my levo
Had to watch video again its 11/10/ 21 .Rob what do u think about the rocky mountain that just got released ,altitude with the 4 motor
I can't believe that we have to wait an entire year until this comes out.
Fortunately there are a lot of capable and less expansive bike out there.
Rob, Do you find the 170 Axs dropper ok, I'm getting the S4 Turbo levo expert ! I'm 6"0 (183) & will eventually upgrade to the Axs dropper would be good if they had a 200 dropper to come in the near future!!! But is the 170 fine !!! Great vid of the gen 3 turbo levo & I'm probably going to upgrade to Axs shifting with the Axs upgrade kit ( GX );
water ingress on the motor was where the cranks are, no seals on them (watch performance line video where he strips the motor down & beefs up the clutch & adds seals).
Funniest part "and the headcup for changing head angle is included with the bike", 13 grand Rob ffs I'd want replacement forks as well! 😂😂😂😂
Any updates on the drive train? SLX on my 2021 turbo Levo is absolutely weak for an e-bike.
What kind of problems are you having with the SLX?
@@williamzoom9200 skipping gears on climes. With less than 300 miles on it. I Took it to the BS and showed me the shark teeth on the cassette.
Looks like a needed upgrade with some class leading features. Great vid mate. 👍🏻
NIce review but you didn't even show the controller which I think is one of the features that sets Specialized apart. So ergonomic and unobtrusive got to love it. Its a small thing compared to power and handling but makes a difference when riding and just looking at the bike.
"IP Rated" means sweet FA without actually stating *what* the rating is.
*IP0 (zero)* means no protection.
Great review. Did I miss the info on the battery, if/how it’s removable ?
Big question, if my motor breaks on my 2020 Levo, can they replace it with the new motor? Or to put it another way, can you replace a Gen2 motor with a Gen3 unit? Obviously I don't need to say how fantastic the video was, very nice riding and filming. Your production values are just getting better and better.
Rob, did you slice off the battery cover. Mine now on 3rd. It’s a design error. Sliced off like butter when cover is open and pedals reverse. Please comment
No mine has been fine. Although I can see how it may get knocked off when pedals rotated and it hits the crank arm.
