  • Is "seasonal affective disorder" for real? Clinical psychologist Dr. Kelly Fairbanks says if you tend to feel down or depressed during the cold days of winter, it's not just your imagination. Less access to sunlight can affect people, causing them to feel sad, depressed or lonely. What should people do about it? Dr. Fairbanks says nothing chases the winter blues away like staying active - both mind and body. Start an exercise routine; start a new hobby; keep in touch with friends and family. When sunny days do come along, take advantage of them. Get as much sun light as possible. Dr. Fairbanks also advises, don't be afraid to ask your doctor for help. In some cases, light therapy can be used to help people overcome their seasonal depression.

    i hate winter, i wish i could just sleep through it. i find it hard to go to work in the winter.i feel that i dont want to leave my bed or room

      I stay outside and i stay far from the media.but i live in ft worth.they spray so we dont get enough sunlight.

      Yep they spray us all and lower temps.its worse up north.

    I dread seeing January and February come... overcast skies are so depressing! Also, blood pressure is also more apt to raise in the dark winter months.

    I live in Iowa, 8 months of cloudiness and cold. I use a happy light lamp, vitamin d, exercise, yoga, activity and any way I don't feel fine. I'm planning to leave this geographical zone...

    I think I get mine winter blues is because during the summer there is a family friend that always has bbq and pool party I always enjoy going to them it's so much fun also I get to see more family and family friends during the summer. I do see them during the winter ur not as much. So maybe that's a another reason why I get sad during winter

    I have this problem every winter in NJ, but I did try the light therapy.. it’s a called a happy light and it did actually help my mood it was like 70% better.

    How am I supposed to keep my social outlets when it’s basically illegal to be with anybody now

    I need the sunlight because i stay outside all day but they spray up there and its cloudy.im sick so i sit outside and peel pecans.2 months till 3 2020☺
