I am a puller 7-8 handicapper only hit 210 yard drives… this is really helping me …been doing this for a week, hitting some drivers 250 now…just need repetition.
Fabulous advice sir
Wow! This is a great tip, Steve! Finally someone who explains what I'm doing (I'm a puller) and how to fix it!
Thank you!
These days my golf swing seems more like a process than it used to. It takes longer and the ball goes farther and straighter, and I am actually finishing club flopping over on my back. It feels all feel. Golf is a journey so just keep walking forward.
Thanks, Steve, for your many years of tips and videos.
One thing that I would add would that being such a lousy driver of the ball for so long I am great at scrambling.
But it does feel great to hit the ball well off the tee.
Reluctantly, I tried this on the course today and….it works.
I will certainly will be working to build on this concept.
Thanks 🎉
Good explanation and demo.Thanks.
Swoosh!
Great drill ! Watch Out 200 Plus
I'll try this. I'm 74 years old. In decent shape. Used to drive consistently 225-235. Last couple of years best drives are 210. I tend to try to get speed from body and arms. My buddy who is 66 years old and 5'8" and 160 lbs. hits it 235 - 245. I think he uses his hands and wrists way more than I do. He seems to stop hip rotation at impact and fling his hands.
Good advice. Better explanation. Grip might be the key to achieve this though.
Great advice. Does this apply to irons as well?
They always taught us that the arms must LAG behind! Lag behind the hips and chest rotation! Now with your lesson, I am learning this is true of the left arm, but not entirely true of the right arm... About my swing, I was definitely a puller and would pull the shots left. They would start left, be pulled further left and then draw even more left. I got into the habit of checking every swing, because I could keep the ball in play--it would still go left--if I checked the swing. However, if I finished the swing, it would go so far left as to find trouble. With this change, I am hitting my drive straighter, and without much effort gaining about 30yds.
I'm playing in the morning - and will let you know!
how was it?
How do I initiate a body turn?
Thanks for this great tip. It worked like magic on my driver. But can I use this technique for all my clubs or just the driver?
Yes you can!
I hit roughly 180-200 so I hope this is salient content! Yes, I'm 70 but I hit the gym roughly 3 times a week and don't feel/look 70. So, my observation of when you "throw the club head" involves a full spectrum rotation of your wrists. It starts with the left wrist high (on top) and ends with the right wrist high (on top). From the on-set, that introduces another variable to my swing and now I wonder how I get all the pieces/parts of this sequence to synchronize perfectly at contact? In-other-words, it "appears" harder to me. I have to try this. I have a game tomorrow and the following day. I'm eager to see this in action! Thank you.
Try the pole wrap drill and then speed it up to form a whoosh sound with an alignment rod without the pole. Practice every day.
Steve, When throwing do you ever think about the hand action of flipping or its not really required?
I try to "flip" (flap the wrists around the arc with the face square) the living crap out of it, but with rotation.

Hey steve,
Just want to know your thoughts on why my practice swings as i turn and throw the club are perfect with plenty of forward lean but as i hit the ball the shaft is completely vertical. Just want to know why do you think this is happening when i feel what im feeling in my practice swing.
Thanks 👍
That's the only position you know how to hit a ball squarely - so far. Two things have to change....practice at slower speed to have more conscious control, and 2, williingness to hit a bunch of terrible shots without caring until you get it.
Thanks Steve 👍 love for you to do a video on this subject since I think it's most people's problem!
Does this also apply to 3 wood and irons?
i am keen to know too
How does this translate to the irons and or when the ball is on the ground?
Agree, Steve if you can point to a similar video for irons that would be great. Great lesson with a simple explanation - thank you.
Where are you? You give private lessons?
My brain will not allow me to relocate it out in front. Is there a drill for that?
You talking 'bout me? Yeah. 160 yard max. With a lot of effort.
I am a short hitter Fo Sho
Best golf tip ever!!!
My handicap dropped 10 points!!
