It's not because of the whole VTuber or idol thing, it's just that private matters should stay private imo, touching on it for a bit is fine, going in depth about the relationship is a bit too much. It can be seen as both rude to the person you shared the relationship with (because you're talking to pretty much strangers about your time with that person) and also to the people who you are currently spending time with (because talking about someone else while essentially hanging out with another is not too ethical).

There's a trilogy of clips titled something like "Matsuri and Luna talking about their feeling for each other before Luna's 3D debut" were Matsuri talks about stuff like promising herself that she wouldn't fall for any of her colleagues, and not wanting to risk her friendship with Luna by starting a relationship, etc. And damn, that entire conversation felt way too real, and no wonder because this new clip makes clear that entire convo most likely was real.

Queue that date Matsuri had with Hosokawa that she took her to an expensive dinner and kept saying things like "If only I were a boy, I would date you", you know, completely normal behaviour between friends, or the bathtube audio only talk she did on niconico I think, that she was having the whole "she doesn't love me back" treatment while almost crying, she only missed the ice cream(Those were both on feb-march 2020, I can't find the bathtube talk anymore). Really, Matsuri just too precious with how it shows when she likes another girl (be it friends, like Luna, or the Hoshikawa jorney from liking her romantically probably to the gachikoi she has for an idol). Matsuri never ceases to amaze me with how she's capable of being a complete degenerate in a fun crazy way and still be very wise and well-spoken about topics when they get serious. It's honestly part of why I love Vtubers in general. They get to be honest without totally disclosing their identity, making it safe for them and ironically more genuine because other than the identity they have, they can be as open as they like and play whoever they want.

The Japanese idol industry has a few really weird things. One of them is that love isn't allowed, not even past relationships (there is this one horrible term for an idol that had a relationship 'used goods'). There have been idols that would get death treats for having had a relationship. It's why it it surprised me that she said this (even if is about a lesbian one, which isn't usually considered a real relationship, disgustingly enough)
Earlier she talked at length about making plans for having a meal with Rose, and cancelling two days before due to other commitments (Apex ranking I believe), and Rose wasnt bothered at all since she unequivocally supports Matsuri. So the context is that as a friend, acting that way may be forgiven, but if Rose were her GF, that might be a reason to get mad.

I think it's more likely that the real reason that Matsuri didn't say a name from Hololive is that some fans would go the extra mile and make things weird between the two of them, making it super awkward/difficult or even impossible for them to collab. I think if there weren't such people in the fanbase, Matsuri could say it and whoever it is would be mature enough to maintain the relationship she has with Matsuri, maybe even teasing her about it on stream or going along with it for fanservice. Matsuri was just too nice to be real and up front with the fans and chose not to call them out that they'd do such a thing.
Can I just say how great it is that Matsuri says that she's bi(something pretty dang contentious, at least in the States) and everyone is just like, "Neat! ...so, Matsuri x Luna ship?" I love matsuri so much, and it’s not because of this, it’s because of how real she is. She seems like a genuine good person to have a nice long conversation with and will hear you out when you need to be heard. She really is god

It's honestly part of why I love Vtubers in general. They get to be honest without totally disclosing their identity, making it safe for them and ironically more genuine because other than the identity they have, they can be as open as they like and play whoever they want.

The Japanese idol industry has a few really weird things. One of them is that love isn't allowed, not even past relationships (there is this one horrible term for an idol that had a relationship 'used goods'). There have been idols that would get death treats for having had a relationship.
It's why it it surprised me that she said this (even if is about a lesbian one, which isn't usually considered a real relationship, disgustingly enough)
Earlier she talked at length about making plans for having a meal with Rose, and cancelling two days before due to other commitments (Apex ranking I believe), and Rose wasnt bothered at all since she unequivocally supports Matsuri. So the context is that as a friend, acting that way may be forgiven, but if Rose were her GF, that might be a reason to get mad.

I think it's more likely that the real reason that Matsuri didn't say a name from Hololive is that some fans would go the extra mile and make things weird between the two of them, making it super awkward/difficult or even impossible for them to collab. I think if there weren't such people in the fanbase, Matsuri could say it and whoever it is would be mature enough to maintain the relationship she has with Matsuri, maybe even teasing her about it on stream or going along with it for fanservice.
Matsuri was just too nice to be real and up front with the fans and chose not to call them out that they'd do such a thing.
Can I just say how great it is that Matsuri says that she's bi(something pretty dang contentious, at least in the States) and everyone is just like, "Neat! ...so, Matsuri x Luna ship?"
