well it could have been worse, like removing main story content, (so making it optional, so inconsquential to the main story and ruin it) and sold it as day one dlcs like what EA di with Mass Effect 3. Those micro-transaction dont actively ruin or tank the game in any way, but of course it does leave a bad taste.

It was a hyperbolic analogy meant to parallel the overwhelming number of microtransactional DLC contents to the ever-expanding list of gender neutral pronouns that have been introduced to the lexicon in recent years. A bit of a tongue-in-cheek joke that apparently didn't resonate well with some of the viewers, lol.
@@liveactioncow My man, a third of the review is dedicated to it, and it has nothing to do with the core of the video. It either should've been cut from the video for failing to tie into anything, or he should've elaborated on and defended his opinion. I came here for a review.
Wow... you went full mask off with this video. I was wondering when that side of yourself you share on twitter was going to make its way into your videos (testing the waters no doubt).
It's seriously so unfortunate. Capcom is one of the final few big companies I trust, but this hit my trust pretty hard. The microtransactions are whatever. You don't have to interact with them at all, but it's scummy nonetheless because some people will purchase them believing that they are necessary. The biggest issue, however, is definitely the optimization. It's tragic, because Capcom is generally great at this. I've downloaded the DLSS mod patch that unlocks frame gen, and it works perfectly for me, but no game should have to be fixed by mods or DLSS on current gen PCs. Really hoping they fix things up and don't screw up like this in the future.
@sly9263 I'm literally looking at the shop right now... rift crystals are obtained in game also most of the items also say Note: This item is also obtainable in game so yea... no I'm not pushing I just have eyes
dlchris22 sorry but I'm playing helldivers 2 an palworld regularly with friends an I laughed so hard when I noticed I could buy both games again for the same price as DG2 horribly optimized water trash 70 dollar game. Also I'm a huge fan of DG1 got it an all it's dlc for 5bucks on steam lol DG2 is literally the same game with the same graphics hahaha
The DLC is more of a neutral thing since it's all obtainable in game so you can safely ignore it. It's there for people who are impatient I guess, though I agree I'd rather it not be there at all. The one save file, performance issues, and Denuvo are all terrible to see though. I grabbed the first game on sale and was excited to play through it and then get the sequel... and now I'm not sure I ever will.
Have you even watched the video? His point was it's sad to see the game fail, because it's not covered in real life politics, but instaed it fails, because of poor performance, bad design decisions and microtransaction. Like were you watching a different video?
Was not expecting an Ethics in Game Journalism rant before even hearing Ermz even say the game's name. The existence of gay people in video games isn't making games bad, and your rant about political correctness being the eroding factor of Western civilization or whatever showed just how badly you missed your own point. These games are bad, or take what could be good games and make them awful for exactly the same reasons DD2 is such shit: anti-consumer practices. When you treat games like a product instead of like game (or for some, like art) you get this experience, regardless of whether it was made in Japan or the pronoun-filled US.
Everything in the cash shop can be obtained in game. What is worst for me is that the cash shop is more like a trap for some dumb ass. Basically a cash grab
Literally if people would read the description it says can obtain in game so you don't have to spend money. I really don't get why people are so upset about it lol there's so many more out there that do the same thing don't wanna farm for it buy it! If not stop crying about it and don't buy it problem solved 🤣
TheDragonshunter still doesn't justify 70 bucks for a game. Sorry the graphics barely went up and the optimization is horrible HORRIBLE!!! Let alone cash grab micro transactions on release is just laughable. U do know DG1 has gone on sell so many times for 5 bucks for dlc an everything right? Sorry just like dioblo 4 and overwatch 2 this game will fall flat on its face.
Long time Dragon's Dogma and Capcom player here, Capcom has included idiot skip microtransactions even back in Devil May Cry 4. Their paid content is not problematic as DD2 is not designed to be tedious unlike mobile games. As for not allowing players to have multiple character save slots, that's to cut down on the amount of trash/meme/bad pawns with zero attention paid to them in the rift. I do think the game should allow you to delete your character if you want though, there's no harm in that and only benifits the player. The game has its real issues, denuvo slowdown optimization and lots of crashing for instance, but to focus on these stupid idiot skip microtransactions that have always been in capcom games and contrive them to be the really game ruining problem is just ridiculous to me.
Lol, i knew why i wouldnt buy it, everything thats more than 60$ is an automatic scam 😂 never gonna pay that again after D4 all good will was lost, im done with AAA permanently
legit smth wrong with this guy to have such a hate boner for not just politics but representation. he def has underlying things he cant say cause they're wrong lol
What a cute doompost full of misinformation. If people would update their drivers, they'd notice a night and day difference of improvement regarding the game's performance. As for the one-time purchases of items that can be obtained in-game VERY easily, well they're just that. A shortcut for the lazy and the foolish.
it's such a shame because no matter how "good" the game is, the poor pc performance + instant bs mtx seen on the store page right away will make people avoid it. Me included, honestly... I don't want headaches running a $70 game that also wants me to buy extra stuff for "convenience", idc if the same thing is grindable in game. This is not a free to play gacha or long-lasting MMO, it's ridiculous.
Well at least we still have Larian Studio's BG3 from last summer that can be replayed many, many times over and get different interactions. We have Hell Diver 2 for fps moods. Enshrouded and even Palworld for survival games. Basically non-AAA studios are delivering what we the gamers need & want: good games.
Already played it for 10 hours, its a great game, performance is pretty bad, but the jedi: last survivor for example came out in much worse state. The microtransactions dont make any sense, the items u can buy are kinda useless and you will have enough pretty fast, only usefull ones are the character edit and port crystal. If they were seling ferry stones (fast travel items) I would understand the out rage.
(Reposting because i had to delete to make sure I didn't miss anything in the video.) I'm sorry huh? wym political checklist and showing ellie saying "bigot" is that really where you say "THATS IT. I HATE POLITICS"? Also, nobody is asking for representation..? Theres whole communities asking for representation for their culture or beliefs. Some companies sure shell out because they're companies but the representation is still important if its from big AAA titles to indie devs. Also whats with the random "pronouns on a campus" and "lack of political lecturing" line, what does that have to do with the obvious monetization that is the ACTUAL problem?
Be quiet buddy, you're not intelligent enough to argue your side. If you were intelligent enough to, you would realize that you are just spitting out stupid nonsense. Edit: Oh and by the way tlou2 sucks get over it.
dude no wants representation over story and thats what happens to most shows movies and games , they focus making sure everyone is feeling seen but dont focus on the important stuff, like writing world building and have a begining a middle and a end thats written well that makse sense .
@@anthonyseeger3458 "Representation over story" Oh you mean a single phrase or acknowledgement in a show or game that explores and lasts at MOST 1 minute then it carries on to the main story? If that was so true lets use the example Ermz used, TLOU 2, do you really think if it was that much of a WOKE game and explored THAT MUCH into it, it would have done so well? A STORY driven game that DOESN'T explore into characters..? Also lets use ANY MOVIE or SHOW, STORY DRIVEN NARRITIVES. Maybe it's good that they EXPLORE REPRESENTATION AND CULTURE to EXPAND CHARACTERS instead of keeping them two dimensional? You focus on the small things so much you let it ruin your experience and keep negative reviews on something that could be really good if only you accepted and hell you could even IGNORE the representation of cultures or beliefs and just enjoy the program. The fact you and Ermz focus on it so much you have to bring it up on something that has nothing to do with representation, points out how your views are actually really hateful.
Its just really common nowadays.. This is the big companies business.. Like blizzard, diablo 4, mw, skull and bones.. And etc... This game is just another byproduct of the greed of our game society dont buy it guys. Huge scam and greed behind this game again
Your channel covering HD2 content was really strong, but this video carries a lot of political undertones against particular groups of people or ways of thinking that don't line up with your primary point. Just a critique, but perhaps avoid discussing games adding unnecessary politics when much of your analysis is riddled with the same mistakes.
Fair play here, the monetization items can all be acquired in game with little effort, even the appearance respec. That being said the shitty optimization, stupid DRM and one save limit are UNACCEPTABLE!
Def not just homophobic you can pick up a lot from what he's saying with the random "pronouns" line when the video is suppose to be about microtransactions in singleplayer games. He's got so many underlying issues i bet.
Another good example of not to pre order. Was really hyped, but now i will stick with Helldivers 2 atm. I will sit this one out until all the issues were fixed and cost 10$.
Helldivers 2 is currently experiencing a great deal of issues with the latest patches. If anyone in my squads uses an arc launcher everyone hard crashes
Honestly, the best move for the dev team now would be to pull an Obsidian, and just break away from Capcom to go indie. Most of the problems people have with the game right now are directly related to decisions that are above the dev team. If the dev team broke off and made their own spiritual successor games to what they made for Capcom, plenty of folks would follow them. At least I know I would. I can guarantee that the framerate and crashing issues are tied to a lack of QA, because a suit from executive team wanted the game out faster to reap those sweet profits this quarter instead of the next. Microtransactions for items that can be obtained in-game? "Sorry, boys, but the CEO says we gotta hook ourselves some whales! Cook up some MTX for the lazy folks who can't figure out how to get that stuff themselves." Lack of new game/multiple save options is genuinely a little puzzling, coming from someone who played DDDA a lot. At least in DDDA, if you beat the final boss and then started new game plus, the final boss would change to either your Arisen from the previous save or an Arisen from someone else's game who had recently beaten the final boss (depending on if you had online features turned on or off before the start of the fight.) And DDDA also only had one dedicated save slot. So maybe there are features in DD2 that have a similar thing going on? Where a single player having multiple characters could potentially cause issues in the long run?
the technical issues are so bad. I got the game myself to see how bad it was, and the fps was fairly consistent at 60 fps with everything maxed and RTX enabled; however, the DLSS make this game look so fkng blurry and the occasional fps drops plus microtransactions make request a refund.
Going from Helldivers 2 to this game is such a fucking shellshock moment. HD2 respects players time and doesnt nickle and dime us. DD2 is the exact opposite. Capcom have been a scummy piece of shit company for a long time now but were sheltered from as much criticism as EA and Actiblizzard because of the general "Japan good" mentality. Now that sheild is gone. Fuck Capcom.
All over blow. Everyone acts like there are rampant micro transactions. It's just not the case. The currency you can purchase is plentiful in game. I've been trying to run out of it and I have more and more everytime I check. The pay to win aspect just isn't there. 1 it's not a multiplayer and 2 it's got all the things he mentioned easily available in game. And just wait till the end to start again and re edit your character. The og game did the same. If the "micro transactions" are so bad in this game, it's because people have no self control.
I was interested in Dragon's Dogma 2 but Denuvo combined with the MTX/Day 1 DLC fest I decided I could wait if I ever want to play it. And its not like I don't play game with intrusive DRM/"anti-cheat" (I mean I play HD2 lol) but those are major marks against and if they have anything else to mark it down I really don't wanna bother.
The things you can buy through microtransactions are purchasable and acquirable through in game means, including the ability to edit your character. It's no less scummy to have them, but they didn't remove anything from the game at the very least.
They could’ve made significantly more money if they didn’t make it a microtransaction hell. This might have lead this game to flop, I feel so bad for the devs who made this game. I will now wait for this game to be cracked and it being able to be modded.
Need to be more clear. Is it 2$ AFTER u make your character the first time, or 2$ on laumch to edit the free characters you could make in the free character that released a week ago?
Name another game that charges you $70 and still charges you to make Edits to your character? That’s so fucking dumb and you defending it is hilarious.
You think they don't but they do. It clearly shows that the developer cares more about making a quick buck than providing an enjoyable gaming experience. I personally don't think they will fix the optimization issues if all they are focusing on is the store.
You can get everything they sell by playing. If they offered no micros, and you had to gather rare items only, would that be better or worse?@@jaeger6711
If you haven't seen it in these modern games you are actually braindead. They slap you in the face with it left and right with most of these AAA titles
theres an item you can get in game that lets you completely change your appearance so i dont even know y they're making that a microtransaction by my main issue is the optimization in town i get like 20-30fps
That part, the fps on console is atrocious most folks crying about the microtransactions clearly don't read the fine prints in the dlc/addons. Reading is fundamental yall 🙃 I hope they address the fps issue soon
Who's the one with the mindrot here? On a video about microtransactions and poor performance, you couldn't stop talking about "political checklists" and "pronouns". I was watching your channel for Helldivers content, but this has driven me away for good. Unsubbed and ignored.
He’s making some pretty valid comparisons and reasons as to why to have been excited for this game. Just because he notices the ESG stuff in video games and dislikes them doesn’t mean he has mind rot? Let me guess you are a they/them?
I've no horse in the race of Dragon's Dogma 2. I've avoided the hype train, and I've been looking around for reviews to talk critically about it. It's very jarring for the first two minutes to focus on what I'll assume would be referred to as "the woke agenda" and yet the meat and potatoes of the review focus on: $2 microtransaction to change your character appearance; poor optimization in general; Denuvo impacting performance; single-save slot implementation on the cloud; a laundry list of microtransactions on release, including pay-to-win elements. Sure, later on there's a reference to "political lecturing," but there's a difference between "I don't agree with this" and "the script writing/voice acting/theme implementation is bad." Even the ending statement focuses on lost goodwill from its monetization and botched launch, not about politics or, y'know, any actual complaint. If this were a paper written for school, the thesis/opening of the essay has nothing to do with the body and conclusion. This is like stating that "Coke is better than Pepsi" at the beginning, and spending the rest of the paper talking about chocolate milk. I'm not saying anyone's right or wrong. Critically speaking, it's a terribly implemented opener, and seems like he's trying to "cater to some obtuse political checklist criteria" in as easy and cheap of a way as possible. Which, yes, that's a quote from the video. In conclusion: the opening has nothing do do with the meat and potatoes of the review, and the "laundry list of pronouns" comment is out of place as a result. There's no throughline to it, no logical way of someone going from A to B. Man, I wish I knew why these comments were relevant, but I guess it takes some work to properly implement one's thoughts and themes into something comprehensive.
@@JohnnyRhozay What a thoughtful and well organized comment, I agree with all your points, yes it is jarring for him to make fun of pronouns in his thoughts on the game. It really all comes down to if you find it funny or offensive.
Totally agree, utterly bizarre video! I’ve been noticing this weird rhetoric in some of his HDII content, but this also seals it for me. Unsubbing and avoiding, too!
i mean this is not new for capcom and thats why i never preorder a capcom game anymore like they have been charging money for changing a character for years like go look at monster hunter world and they have been selling pay to win before also just look at the resident evil remakes capcom making great games and stuffing them with the worst micro transactions is not new looking at street fighters 20$ per costume teenage mutant ninja turtles dlc
So if the game doesn't have a white male lead it's being political? Boi thats hilarious!!😂 What is you problem? Elle is a beloved character all over. Its you fault you cant see tho people differences to their humanity. Check yourself please😂😂
I find it HILARIOUS that you say that people don’t want politics in their games while using some of the examples you show. I find it especially weird that you showed Armored Core and Helldivers gameplay of all games, incredibly unsubtle politically charged games. Edit: Games have always had the capacity to be political. In FF7, you play as eco terrorists. Also anyone who believes that ESG is motivating major design decisions is high or insane. Edit 2: Don’t think this means I support the bad business decisions in this game, I just think that your priorities are wildly skewed considering you seem just as mad about pronouns existing (which may I just say that you seem to WILDLY misunderstand how the LGBTQ community implements them) as the fact a 70 dollar game has effectively sold you a purposely incomplete product.
5:13 Where are you getting your political lecturing in your video games? like what are some actual example? i guess we aren't playing the same games. if you say Last of us: part 2, also tell me that you actually played it.
if they made their goal of $$$ doing things the way they did - mission accomplished. if they didn't, and/or they actually care about the things you're talking about, i.e. good faith, etc., then they'd better totally own up, apologize, and give all of their pay to win crap for free, maybe even reduce the price to 59. then MAYBE, this will work. reminds me of what bud light did. and then what they did to make up for it. did it work?
Yeah nar. Just charging for that character reroll taints the game enough for it to be avoided. But locked save (only having 1 might I add) and that mass amount of "pay to win" Micro transaction list that is on par with Train Simulators DLC library. Holly crap, If they can recover from that tainted pile of sh*t they dumped on top of what would have been amazing, it will be a miracle. But if it sells well and flourishes with that festering cancer on it, we deserve every pile of sh*t that comes from here on.
FFS tlou 2 wasn't political. Unless someone having a sexual preference is political lol. I hate woke shit in games as much as the next person but there are far worst offenders than TLOU2, and that game/story was actually pretty good if you actually played it. Although the game was definitely too long.
tlou2 has just a badly written story, and killing off joel in that way has to do with wokeness against male characters, joel never was a stupid chaarcter.
@@Spillow-C dear lord lol. Why is joel dumb? Was it because he trusted Abby? Yea pretty dumb of him to trust a loan girl who helped him escape a hoard in a blizzard. But yea Joel should have never told her his name… except he didn’t, Tommy did but someone who played the game would have known all of that lol.
Look man you don't seem stubborn like most other people in this comments sections. But think how in the first game that sexuality stuff wasn't even focused on (besides the dlc which is where this all started), then in tlou 2 there is that kid that is transgender for whatever reason as it adds no value to the plot and is just stupid and random, then there is lesbian couples in the middle of a zombie apocalypse which you would think would be pretty rare and it just becomes increasingly obvious that after the director of part 1 left that that druckman moron took over and forced all his bs on everyone. Read up on some of his stupid original ideas for part 1 that thankfully got declined by the actually mentally stable director bruce straley.
I have been hearing a lot of "microtransactions bad so game bad" for years but have never once felt like I had to buy in. It really feels like people are complaining about the fact that they are offered something they don't have to buy.
The practice is scummy regardless, because they're hoping to prey on people who have less restraint or willpower than you. Microtransactions like this should always be denounced. It's a bad practice that needs to go. That being said, if you understand that they are unnecessary, it's not at all an issue that will personally affect you or your experience.
There have been games that have grinds that are just a little too rough BUT WAIT, you can buy a booster to lessen it. Or games where the vast majority of good looking armor sets are from the cash shop. Do i have to buy either of those? No... But if MTX wasnt a thing, chances are the game was more balanced, and more work might have been put in the base armors. You can argue that the armor sets wouldnt have been made otherwise, but they'd have boring looking footage, and that hurts sales. Back in the day companies understood you had to make a good product to sell it. Now they can depend on an army of people defending whatever crap they pull Having said that, and still hating MTX... the issues with it are overblown
How does that even remotely matter? Nothing that he said has anything to do with or hinges on the fact he played the first one. Everything he is complaining about is corporate bullshit, optimization being bad, micro transactions, etc. The good things he said had everything to do with the actual core gameplay/mechanics Even if he didn’t play the first one everything he said is still true.
The Micros are kinda the same as the first one, aren’t they? And you can earn what they sell by playing the game. The hate seems way out of proportion. CAPCOM uses Micros. Has for ages. Wasn’t expecting otherwise.

What does any of this have to do with politics?
Right? What do pronouns have anything to do with microtransactions 😂

All the comments about the politicking of gaming is concerning. I think I’m get my HD2 news from a different source.
Microtransactions? You mean the stuff you can already earn in game? Lol
do they have stock? stop trusting them- real simple.

The DLC is more of a neutral thing since it's all obtainable in game so you can safely ignore it. It's there for people who are impatient I guess, though I agree I'd rather it not be there at all. The one save file, performance issues, and Denuvo are all terrible to see though.

God help Monster Hunter Wilds.

As for the one-time purchases of items that can be obtained in-game VERY easily, well they're just that. A shortcut for the lazy and the foolish.
FOR DEMOCRACY!!!
it's such a shame because no matter how "good" the game is, the poor pc performance + instant bs mtx seen on the store page right away will make people avoid it.
This is just sad, even as someone who didnt know the game existed before this video, other than probably having steam recommend it to me once or so.
I guess I'm sailing for this one.
Contemporary political contagion...? 🤨

A STORY driven game that DOESN'T explore into characters..? Also lets use ANY MOVIE or SHOW, STORY DRIVEN NARRITIVES. Maybe it's good that they EXPLORE REPRESENTATION AND CULTURE to EXPAND CHARACTERS instead of keeping them two dimensional? You focus on the small things so much you let it ruin your experience and keep negative reviews on something that could be really good if only you accepted and hell you could even IGNORE the representation of cultures or beliefs and just enjoy the program.
Cook up some MTX for the lazy folks who can't figure out how to get that stuff themselves."
Lack of new game/multiple save options is genuinely a little puzzling, coming from someone who played DDDA a lot.
This
Going from Helldivers 2 to this game is such a fucking shellshock moment.
Never Refunded A Game Faster than DD 2

You can argue that the armor sets wouldnt have been made otherwise, but they'd have boring looking footage, and that hurts sales. Back in the day companies understood you had to make a good product to sell it. Now they can depend on an army of people defending whatever crap they pull
