Conrad Weiser (interpreter) is my 7th great grandfather. About 6 years ago my husband and I traveled back east to PA and found out only a week before that his homestead was a State Park so we got to visit. Really fun!
Hey you made my day. I fell two weeks ago and injured the nerves in my back and right leg. In severe pain. So we are not get out much right now. This video was a blast from my past. We always would go that way up to Sunbury to get to Bucknell for Drum Corp shows. Go Reading Buccaneers. Check out their award winning shows on you tube. My 32 year old daughter was a member for years. She is a music teacher up in Tuscarora School District. Absolutely love the beautiful homes of Sunbury. We often take a joy ride up the roads you took. Thank you so much you made my day. Loved your sunglasses.
Such a beautiful drive & scenery ! Lots of history from the past ! Street name is fascinating ! Great place to live ! I would love to drive on these roads ! Thanks cliff !
Thanks taking us along on a beautiful ride. Quiet little towns, farm land, woods, an overlook and a mountain, those are great rides. This video was packed, long isn't bad, it can be relaxing. Only thing missing is stopping by a small diner before heading home.
Hi Cliff, what a fantastic video, I loved every minute. You should do more of these driving, stopping and looking historical video's as it gives viewers like myself who don't live in the USA a really good overview of different area's and also the history of that particular area. Totally awesome, thank you so much for letting us take a ride around the beautiful state of Pennsylvania with you and showing us some of it's rich and varied history, much love. xx💖
My ancestors were on the same ship as Conrad Weiser that arrived in New York in 1710. They were Palatines from what at the time was the Holy Roman Empire. It's a great story in early American history as Conrad and my ancestors were given land in an area known as Schoharie and several other communities in that area. They spent several years there before they came down the Susquehanna River and Swatara Creek.
same here with two sets of direct ncestors coming over in 1710 on the eleven ship fleet from London after leaving the Palatinate to Rotterdam and later to London and then to Governor's Island outside NYC. In 1723 they came up the Susquehanna and settled in the Schoahie Valley.
I can’t believe it took so long for me to come across you channel , My wife and I are senior citizens and enjoy your travels in Pennsylvania and other areas. Your videos are so pleasant and relaxing. Thank you for sharing 😊
Fun drive and enjoyed watching the houses and landscape go by as you drove. Enjoyed the history and personal memories too. Felt like being in the car for a ride-along. 🚙
Definitely a beautiful day for a drive!!! I loved the drive and all of the beautiful scenery!!! Thank you for the history even though I'm not from there!!! I'm a small town SC girl. You do a wonderful job on your videos Cliff!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
Wonderful road trip! Beautiful scenary, views, & towns. Cool to imagine the Indian trails. That little fort was really neat! Cool lil chimneys. Loved hearing some of your childhood memories. What a great area to grow up. So very sorry for the loss of your barber friend. You should try a live some time, you would be amazing! Oh & I love "your mountain" Cliff!! Thanks very much, this was interesting & lots of fun! Cool shades. 😎
I love how you know all this stuff! My grandmothers side is from “over the mountain” in wernersville area (from west cocalico area). I always wanted to know the history. So thankful! Love your work.
Oh my goodness too funny. The man that gets out of the red truck with the dog is Tom and Cooper. We live at 501 and Mexico Rd in PG, you almost see us.
Really enjoyed this .....you always do make history come alive!!!! Enjoyed the drive too and hearing about your memories too!!! Your videos always have so much beauty too!!! Thanks loved it,!!!!
Wonderful drive, beautiful scenery, interesting history. Can't get much better than that except for your refreshing hikes through the woods. Thanks for ride.
That was cool! I especially liked Klingerstown since I'm a Klinger and Sunbury since that's where my mom was born and raised. I haven't been there lately but seeing this makes me want to visit. Rt 419 is very scenic with lots of photo ops. I've been to Womelsdorf to the Weiser homestead. I never knew about the Tulpehocken trail.
TRULY appreciate the creative ways you've been structuring your videos recently! Thanks much for the work and effort you put into them. Look forward to the French and Indian Wars you have planned.
At the end of Bashore Street on 501 is a renovated home that used to be a one room school house. The owner of that house told me that the road used to be on the East side of that house many years ago, but it was rerouted to the west side. There was a blacksmith shop right across from the schoolhouse which is now nonexistent. I believe the entire section from around Airport Road down to where Fort Henry Road is may be new; I think it may have been changed when they put 501 in. I met you when I worked at Dutchway a few years ago, not sure if you remember me. I'm Wilbur Hershey's grandson and you worked on his farm growing up. A series on the French and Indian War would be great. I'm fascinated by Fort Henry. I've been reading a good book called "Seed of a Nation" by Darrell Fields about that time period, would recommend it. Thanks for your videos!
I love your videos! I have always loved Pennsylvania having grown in rural NJ. Spent lots of time driving those beautiful back roads. Thank you for a lovely drive, full of history and all those old farmhouses!
Really enjoyed your trip Cliff! So much history around Pennsylvania and the Indian Trails and the French Indian wars too. Look forward to more of this history.
my daughter and I have been in the Upper Delaware Water Gap having moved from New Jersey, and we've been here for 2 years and it's absolutely beautiful!
Okay love the tour and the history . Would really enjoy a barn tour . You probably take them for granted but the authentic Pennsylvania barns are unlike many others .
I wanted to let you know that you do a great job! We are from central PA so if you ever need some inside info on Juniata co and surrounding we would love to help you out! You have motivated us to go out hiking again and my 8 yr old son loves it! Thank you for bring us back to earth 😁🏕
Thank you for taking us along on your trip I been to Sunbury many times never seen that little Fort now I know what to look for when I go there thank you
Pennsy has got some beautiful country. Glad I'm finally hearing some cicadas during these August videos, they are the true sound of summer. Re video length: the longer the better. The long vids are more relaxing to watch. Those corn fields look just about ready to harvest, please send me a dozen ears of white sweet corn please. 🌽😁🌽
This is great! Is like riding in the car with you enjoying your wealth of knowledge. Hope you do more videos on Indian paths & the French and Indian war. Love your channel.
I grew up in Herndon and there is a marker sign and a portion of the path along Route 147 just north of town before you get to the bridge across the Mahanoy Creek. I was hoping you would have stopped there. Sometime you should check out the Ned Smith Center and the trails there in Millersburg.
Thank you!!! I live in Pine Grove, I’m actually a Native American from the Pacific Northwest, WA state. Since moving here I have been OBSESSED with learning about the tribes that were here and recently learned about the Tulpehocken Path. I’ve been trying to determine if my house was near it along the path! My #1 goal right now is to find an artifact, specifically an arrow head!!
I live in Herndon Pa, this trail is about half a mile from my house. Great video, i travel Rt 501 often, its a back way into Lancaster for me to avoid Harrisburg.
Nice tour! I ran around the fields across from brown road when visiting cousins in the 70's. Still have some family there. I have a copy of "Conrad Weiser friend of Colonist and Mohawk" by Paul Wallace. You'd probably like it. There's likely a copy in the Lebanon library.
I remember that truck stop you past at Interstate 81. One time I got a load while waiting there. Had to dead head to Williamsport. I debated if I should take your route or go NB 81 / WB 80. It was getting dark so I stayed on the interstates. Glad I did. Seeing those 15 MPH speed zones going down those hills. Glade you were driving.
Thanks for the cruise in your old stomping grounds plus the other areas. Yeh, I didn't think you made it to Sacramento, Calif. That fast, l.o.l. Hope the rest of your week is a good one
Really enjoyed driving with you. Such a pretty area. Fabulous history, loved that. The views were fantastic. Just so you know your videos could never be too long. Thank you so much for taking me along. P,ease stay safe
Cool trip. Especially loved the Rehrersburg and Bethel part as it was my hometown too. Have you ever checked out the books on both towns from the Andulea Heritage Center in Rehrersburg? Fascinating stuff.
2:54 love this house, please do a video on this home and property , Road Trip !! 18:10 what a beautiful site ! what a shame , tainted water like that ... i followed your drive on google maps and my goodness you covered some ground . The fort was pretty cool. cool looking face on overlook. Thanks for taking us all along on your historical road trip !!
That tank was a M60A3 it was the main battle tank that the U.S. had during the 1970s and mid 1980s prior to the Abrams M1 which is the main battle tank today. I was a tanker In the U.S. Army and I was a crew member of that type of tank shown on your video. I don't live in Pa. but l enjoy watching your videos big thumbs up.
While standing at the Lorberry Creek spot, you were at the entrance to my Uncle Bobby's property. The gravel road straight heads up to the gamelands, while the turn left goes to his house. That creek has ran orange since I was a kid in the 80's, if not longer.
I absolutely love watching your videos!!! Thank you so much!!!! My husband & I moved to S.C. from PA. in 2014 & we just recently sold our home and will be moving back to PA. Watching your videos I am so anxious to come back & explore PA. again!!!! Keep exploring & we will keep watching!!!!
It has been said de French made it to the Shikellamy State Park: Overlook and fired cannons toward Fort Augusta; however, the balls ended up in the river below. Also, it is told the cannon balls are in the river to this day.

Great to see all the American flags flying from houses along your trip... Good video and relaxing... cam o'n nhieu = many many thanks
25:32 We have a stream similar to that in Minersville. It also has that orange color to it, caused by the rain running on the local train & tracks (Iron) and getting into the water. Over time, it changes the water to the Iron Orange Tinge. I think, there may have been tracks near that creek at one time ....
You overloaded me with great memories !!!! I live 15 minutes south of sunbury. I could tell you about different towns. I know whère there indian burial humps are. My town also has a sulfur creek. I wish i could tell you more, but i don't like long texts !!!!!!! Àgain, ggreat viďeo !!!!!!
