  • Hey there! This is my first review of the Suunto D5 and some shots of Cabbage Tree Bay in Sydney.
    I'll take it scuba diving in the next week so expect more videos!

    Nice informal review! I'm getting a D5 next week. I'll use it primarily for holiday rec dives, pool teaching and in gauge mode as a backup to my Perdix for tech diving. Looks like a nice computer.

    Great videos. All points were spot on. I find many of those points strange too. New to the watch so time will tell. Thank you!

    One thing I like is the battery last for over 7 days in watch mode, gotta remember that we pass more time outside the water than in.

    Thanks for this! Does it still have the apnea timer? Rebooting seems stupid to be honest

    Nice fauna you have over there!
    Also, consider removing the snorchel when submerging for your own safety. I know it's a hassle when snorcheling. For deeper dives though...

    Thank you for the review - really helpful.
    If you allow me - please, always put snorkel out before a dive. Stay safe.

      Why is this not safe sir? Just wondering, didnt heard about that and im diving always with the snorkel in.

    Hi Francisco. Great video thanks. I have seen that you also watched the video from simply scuba they compares the d5 with the shearwater. From this video we can clearly see the difference between the 2 watches in terms of the visibility of the screen. The shearwater is really brighter and the d5 looks very dark unless we activate the backlight of the watch. Can you tell me more about this. I am also waiting for your part 2 video with the scuba diving review. Cheers mate

      To be honest, I'm using the D5 since 28 scuba dives, down to max 45m and believe me, the display of the D5 is absolutely bright enough 😉 even not in the brightest mode. If this isn't bright enough, an appointment at the eye specialist should be arranged 😉.
      Cheers

    I didn’t notice time of relaxation when the diver is on the surface ( recovery time )
    Doesn’t switch automatically?

  • @christoslak

    Does the dive mode starts automatically? I mean while is on watch when you dive the screen change? By it self?

    Hi Francisco - Thx for your review - nicely done. I was close to buy the computer but the timer problem and the durability doesnt look good. Have you tried out shearwater teric or garmin mk1 maybe too?

    • @frangalarza
      @frangalarza  5 лет назад

      Hey there! I haven't tried the Teric but I know that the channel Simply Scuba is about to release a comparison between this 2 computers, can't wait to see it!
      Hopefully Suunto will fix this limitations with a software update at some point.

    • @AtraxJoe
      @AtraxJoe 4 года назад +1

      Well, the timer issue is fixed and the brightness of the display is way sufficient, especially under water, the intended site of operation 😉.
      To be honest, my point of view, what's the point of the comparison between the garmin mk1/Teric (around 1000 euros) and the suunto D5 (around 500 euros)??
      The first two DC are build for very advanced divers, in particular divers who are interested in tech dives where you need a lot of additional settings, stats and so on. The D5 isn't inteded for tech dives. So, why should someone buy, who's interested in tech dives, a DC that isn't build for tech dives and vice versa? 😉 U know what I mean? 😉
      The D5 is a great and awesome DC for common, "fun" divers and the other two DC are more for tech divers, a bit overdone for common divers 😉.
      Cheers

    Few more questions until there's part 2 :)
    1. How's screen visibility in direct sunlight? On some photos it looks very dim
    2. How much customization does it really allow? I saw it boasts customized views, but suuntos video shows just basic several screens with ability to switch several view points for different reading
    3. How good is battery in real life? For example 2 hours of freediving/snorkeling every day

    • @frangalarza
      @frangalarza  5 лет назад

      All valid questions that will be answered shortly :)
      I'll go diving tomorrow and shoot some more videos for the part 2

    • @maryetdave

      Visibility in sunlight is why I bought the D5, the Shearwater is washed out when in bright sunlight, When you live on a sailboat you are always outside it’s important.

    can you transfer your dive log directly from the watch to SSI app? if yes how?

    • @frangalarza
      @frangalarza  5 лет назад +1

      Nop, you can't, which is a shame. This computer does the bare minimum, nothing "fancy". You can only transfer your logs to Suunto's app which is very poor, it doesn't have a search functionality, it doesn't let you add details about the site. I'm starting to regret this purchase.

    Mate what’s the battery life like say just using it as an every day watch in between say diving trips? The suunto website says 8 days? Would love to hear first hand from yourself!
    Also was that 4hrs battery life displayed on your watch and the bar was that full?

      I thought exactly the same thing. A diving watch is gonna be subject to a lot of reef contact, mostly *unintended.* Thus I got the stainless bezel model.
