    I just saw this video and went straight to the garage, I had a couple dozen .243 that I had in the tumbler. I did exactly what you said, trimmed to 1.920 and without powder charge or primer seated a 120gn Nosler ballistic tip and chambered it in my Savage 11 predator in 6.5 creedmoor. It went into full battery but I noticed a bit of drag or resistance, very little to be clear. I didn't notice any marks on the case and the neck and shoulder looked fine. I will follow up after fine tuning and putting some of these on paper. I have a few hundred rounds of purchased Hornady brass already loaded but this is such a clever and economical method I think you have single handedly solved the 6.5 Creedmoor brass shortage. Well done.

      Great , let me know how it works out , should fire form perfect and be smooth next sizing . I feel no resistance at all.

    G'day mate. If you think you're having dramas finding brass, DON'T move to Australia ! I'm definitely going to be trying this mate! I've just received my RPR in Creedmore. Ordered it 5 months ago and brass. Still no brass!
    I'm going to try your idea and if it works and this isn't a gee up, it has honestly got to be one of the greatest & most helpful RUclips vids that I have watched!!

    Thanks for the info. I just completed converting 500 Winchester brass and everything went smoothly. I annealed them first, trimmed, and resized. No crushed case, just do it slowly, some cases will get a little difficult to size. I pulled the die out, clean the inside, and try it again, perfect. Using Forster Co-Ax press made it easy to change out die.

    After many many times trying this I have pretty much figured out any 243 case will work , disregard the part where I am selling Remington brass, this video was made pretty much within my first few batches . I have since reloaded those same cases 10-12 times with no issues only neck sizing . Good luck guys !

    Excellent report! Funny, I had given up on Remington brass years ago with a Ruger Target 25-06 that wouldn't shoot minute of softball with reloads. One day I took 5 federal .270 cases, ran thru the sizing die. Touched them up with a Lee trimmer and shot .473 @ 100. Note, old M1 shooters prefer Winch. For its stiffer cases.

    I've converted 100 once-fired .243 Win to 6.5CM using this method. I found I had to sand down the shell holder for my Lee press to get the right rim to shoulder dimension. Also, I had a real problem with loose primer pockets using Winchester large rifle primers.

    Thanks for the great Video. Like you I am finding 6.5 brass very hard to come by I guess everyone is jumping on the Creedmoor Bandwagon
    most of the people are using the Logic that if Lapua is the best brass why not use Lapua brass to make 6.5 Creedmoor Brass 243 is a lot cheaper to buy
    and easier to use I will defiantly give this a try

    Hey! He mentioned me! 😁👍🏼
    I did the conversion for educational purposes only, and at the time of Drought Years 2012-2015 you can never find any brass for 6.5CM. I could have done the 243, 260 and 22-250 and that’s the easy way out. I have thousands of 308 Win some are BH, Lapua and mixed so that was a fun challenge for me.

    I was hoping to hear back from you by now. You said that if we had any question, let you know. In the meantime, I received my shipment of once fired Remington brass and repeated the procedure of trimming back three of the cases and then putting them into the 6.5mm FL resizing die. I lubricated the entire outside of the case and also the inside of the neck. This time, I was able to get it past the expansion ball, a little progress on that score. However. the resizing of the cases caused about three indentations just below the shoulder. I took just one of the case and I was able to chamber it into my rifle, so I went ahead and reloaded it with a 6.5mm bullet. I figure the indentations will fire form out of the case. I would feel so much better if I didn't get those indentations. If I can get rid of them during the resizing process, I will feel that the entire procedure is a success. Any advice? Thanks.

    • @johnunderhill1900
      @johnunderhill1900  7 лет назад

      Robert Christino the dents are more than likely coming from excess lube , I only use a tiny tiny bit around the neck .

  • @stuartmarkman769
    @stuartmarkman769 4 года назад

    I recently found out that I can resize 7mm-08 brass too 243 Win. I bought some because 243 is hard to find. I did everything I was supposed to do and after the resizing I tried to seat my first bullet. Bad Idea. The round collapsed at the neck. I than measured the inside diameter of my resized rounds and the brass was thicker than regular 243 brass so I resized the neck with my Lee neck resizing die and the problem is solved. Always check the thickness of the brass in the neck. I won't make that mistake again. Great video. Also, the brass was new Hornady.

    Sweet. Ill be doing this as 6.5 creedmoor brass is crazy expensive from Hornady, Nosler and Norma. Thats all I can find. The Hornady is the cheapest of the bunch but $40 for 50 cases is still way too much for me. Ill be giving this a try as I can find 243 everywhere.
    Also powder for the 6.5 creedmoor when you can't get H4350: RL17, the new RL16, Ramshot Hunter (phenomenal 6.5 creed powder).

    I have 6.5x55 and resize 6mm brass to use in it. Works great just to have extra ammo. Then I have a classic Lee loader I use after that to just neck side and last longer and don't have to use my big press

    First off, thanks for taking the time for making your video I think it is the best one on youtube for brass sizing to date. One quick question, when sizing the 243 are you using a full length sizing die or a neck sizing die? I have recently purchased a Ruger Enhanced Precision Rifle and am an avid reloader too. I just want to make sure I get the right set of dies for this new to me caliber. I have heard the same thing about the 4350 powder and will definitely pick up some of that 4451 you are using. Thanks again

Im loading H 4350 now at 43.5 grns and pushing 140s at 2750, and getting sub MOA, But having trouble finding it. Had pretty good results with IMR 4350 as well--same amount of powder but 50ft slower

  • @ericjohnson8482

    What about the donut? Neck turning is always a smart thing to do after sizing up or down. You say Nosler brass is soft so you annealed it? Annealing makes it softer? Going from LC 7.62 to 6.5CM is the best way and best results.

    I tried doing it with a winchester once fired .243 brass and was not successful at all. I am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong and retracing my steps and still was not successful. Tried 20-25 brass and was only able to get 4-5 converted and even that it's not perfect as one side has that mushroom bump. Though all five fits in my rifle and was able to close the bolt. I am using a winchester once fired deprimed and resize brass, RCBS rockchucker supreme, Hornady FL die, imperial wax. Right now I am convinced that the die I have is a little on the rough area where it touches the shoulder and it's giving me problems. Any help is appreciated.

      As most of you already know Lapua has confirmed they are coming out with their own version of 6.5 Creedmoor Brass. Likely to be introduced at SHOT early NEXT YEAR, however, we MAY see some earlier. What really does NOT excite me is they are talking about changing the case to use a Small Rifle Primer akin to the 6.5x47 Lapua. WHY exactly the US Contingent is pushing for this modification is an open question. They mentioned they wanted to use the same Small Rifle Primer as used on the 6.5x47 Lapua, 6mm BR, 6PPC, etc... The OBVIOUS difference here is that, with the lone exception of .308 Palma Brass, all of these cases were DESIGNED with a Small Rifle Primer in mind. The 6.5 Creedmoor wad very clearly designed with a Large Rifle Primer from the start. This will lead to bushing the firing pin hole and replacing the firing pin on SOME rifle and avoiding the brass on others. I personally am hoping that Lapua of Finland winds up going conservatively and sticks with the Large Rifle Primer ORIGINAL DESIGN as there is VERY LITTLE TO IMPROVE UPON... That said time will tell.

    I gave it another try after several hours. This time, I removed the expander ball and de-capping pin. The .243 case went fully into the 6.5 Creedmoor FL sizing die and the case came out collapsed at the shoulder. I tried this with 3 cases. Just for giggles, I replaced the expander ball to see if it would expand the neck. The expander ball would not enter the case neck. What is it that I don't understand? How do you get a 6.5mm expander ball to pass through a 6mm neck? The collapsing of the case may be cured with Remington brass, as you wrote, but I the expander ball is like putting a square peg into a round hole, at least to my mind.

    I don't know if this will help anyone. I did the trimming at the length he suggested. He is correct about the federal 243 cases. However I couldn't believe that was the only brass. My buddies at the range collect all the 243 for me. So being the mad scientist that I am went to work on figuring out how to use other cases. After cleaning trimming cases to his measurement. Here's the secrete I use a lee die for first setting it is sloppy compared to the hornady die. It will go into the rifle but you will be pushing on bolt hard. Next step use hornady die to finish setting shoulder. It does not crush cases. After this I anneal cases then fire form them to my barrel. After shooting 4-5 times I anneal again keeps the cases from cracking. I use resizing wax not lube. Hope this helps.

    This did not work for me, no matter what I tried. I made the initial cut with a Dremel, then trimmed it down with a proper trimmer. If it worked, I would buy something better, faster, and more efficient, like a chop saw for metal. I trimmed it to 1.920. I lubed it with Imperial lube paste and even swabbed inside the neck with a Q-Tip. I am using a single stage Hornady press. This gives me plenty of torque. I couldn't get past the shoulder. I used as much force as I dared. I didn't want to damage my Redding die. I used Winchester cases but ordered once fired Remington cases online in case this did work. I have a .243 Winchester rifle anyway, so, if it didn't work, I could still use the brass. At first, I thought the 6mm neck wouldn't get past the 6.5mm expanding ball but actually, I can't get past the neck. Comments by others are saying they have been successful. One person said he was even using Winchester brass, like me. That's the only .243 cases I had on hand when I tried it. I even annealed the shoulder and neck after several failures, hoping to make the brass a little softer. I noticed that when you put it through you press, you didn't use a lot of torque on your handle. Mine wouldn't move at all. What am I doing wrong?

      Mobile F I have a RCBS with a power drill attachment . You will get worn out trimming these by hand , lots of brass to come off .
