Crochet Tutorial: Crochet Remembrance Poppy Badge

To make the centre of the poppy use Green Yarn:
12 Double crochet into a magic circle and connect.
Second round - use Black Yarn - 1 Double crochet (insert the hook into front loop of the green chain) 1dc; 1 ch; 1dc; 1ch (12 double crochet stitches)
First row of the first petal - use Red Yarn: 3 Treble crochet into back loop of the first green chain, 3 Treble crochet into back loop of the second green chain, 3 Treble crochet into back loop of the third green chain.
Turn over. Into each tr stitch from previous round work 2 Treble crochet. Cast off.
Second petal - starts with 3 Treble crochet stitches into back loop of the 4th green chain, 3 Treble crochet stitches into back loop of the 5th green chain, 3 Treble crochet stitches into back loop of the 6th green chain.
Turn over. Into each tr stitch from previous round work 2 Treble crochet. Cast off.
etc.
Crochet 4 Petals.

Lovely pattern, best and easiest poppy pattern to follow. I think people are getting confused between 2 double crochet into next 3 stitches and 3 double crochet into next stitches! But the pattern is great and very easy to follow.

Brilliant I love it but I couldn't understand the symbols on the screen at all. Thank goodness you did include the chart but even that was a little difficult trying to follow on scree and keep looking at the chart. has this one been re-done anywhere, very keen. I love It.

The Poppy looks gorgeous! Though maybe next time go a bit slower. I have never crocheted before and it was really hard to follow. Maybe next time could you Make a video for beginners. Thank you a lot.

Yours is the best looking poppy I could find! However, the written pattern and the video DO NOT match. There is no ch 1 between double crochets with the black. I will only agree with all the others who couldn't get through this. Music is excruciating, red background bleeds into red yarn, and I strained my eyes with every hook insert on the red, even with the chart. Turn the sound down, change the play back speed to catch the stitch that the red yarn is going through. and where to grab it to get the curled petal, and maybe you'll be good to go. Also, everyone, DO NOT stop without putting a green leaf on the eleventh hour of your poppy. It's a very important part of the veterans symbol, and of why they wear the poppy.
Sorry to hear it was hard to fallow up. I've just posted another poppy video, it's improved in many ways. Hope it helps.

These look great! A question though... are the instructions in the pattern American stitches? I’m in the Uk and learning crochet at the moment. Here what we call double crochet is single crochet in America, for example. So I’m wondering whether I need to translate the pattern to the UK names?

Hm, in the first red row you definitely put 2 trebles in each chain. I am following the diagram but it makes the poppy look different than yours.
It can't look different, I've crocheted it both ways 3 trebles in each chain in the first row and as you see in the video 2, both ways it looks the same. I've made a new poppy video with glass seed beads in the middle, improved the video in many ways, thought you might be intrested.
What are the 3 dc in red. Should it be 2. Please
3dc in each green loop in the first red row and 2dc in the second red row.
dc is a Double Crochet (dc) in US same as Treble Crochet (tr) UK.

Diagram shows 3 but definitely only 2 double crochet in the red stitch, this is confusing ??
Diagram shows 3 in a first row and 2 in the second row, subtitles says that too.
It means 2 double crochet into next 3 stitches, that what i did anyway and mine came out lovely.x

What hook size?
In the video I'm using a large hook (size 4-5) so the stitches can be seen better. When crocheting a small size poppy (diameter ~4cm as seen in a thumbnail photo) I'm using DK yarn and 1.5 - 1.75 mm crochet hook. It depends on yarn that you use, the label should say what size of crochet hook is the best, I prefer smaller hook sizes.

What size hook and yarn are used ?
I am not sure about the size of the yarn, label says Double Knitting and to use 4mm hook. Filming the video I was using 4mm crochet hook so it is easier to see how it is done. For the rest of the poppies I usually use 1.75mm or 2mm crochet hook so the poppy is tight and firm.

The music of the video has not been edited, I applied it stright from the youtube audio library, no changes made to the volume of it. You could try and turn the sound down by using your computer options that gives you an opputrunity to manage the sound.
