I'm reminded of Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh's famous quote about him. "His father’s from Fermanagh, his mother’s from Fiji. Neither a hurling stronghold."😅

I can barely describe how proud i am that sean óg did this whole speech in irish. All the time you here people saying "what use is irish" and "its a waste of time" but it's unique in the world and something we should hold onto very close to try and hang onto our irish identity come on the royals!

The irony of all the pro-Ireland stuff and then ending it with: "come on the royals!" (Whilst aware that Meath are the royals!)

@@hoogenband0110Royalty isn’t just British. There was also royalty in Ireland long before British rule.
Medieval Irish historical tradition held that Ireland had a High King (Ard Rí) based at Tara since ancient times, and compilations like the 11th-century Lebor Gabála Érenn, followed by Early Modern works like the Annals of the Four Masters and Foras Feasa ar Éirinn, purported to trace the line of High Kings. John T. Koch explains: "Although the kingship of Tara was a special kingship whose occupants had aspirations towards supremacy among the kings of Ireland, in political terms it is unlikely that any king had sufficient authority to dominate the whole island before the 9th century".[1] Máel Sechnaill I is often considered the first historical High King, although he faced some opposition. Applying the title to earlier kings is considered anachronistic, while kings from before the 5th century are generally considered legendary. The traditional list of High Kings is thus a mixture of historical facts and legend.

Fair play to Sean Og. I don't agree with his, and his team mates, recent childish behavior However this speech was made in Irish after becoming the best team in Ireland on that day!! We managed to take back most things that were stolen from us. However taking back our language has since eluded us.
"A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its territories,'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river"

@vinzerellydaman You have no idea how much I wish I knew Gaelic. It is a beautiful language I hold it up there with French and Italan. My family were Irish convicts sent to Oz 200 years ago and the language died over here, rather was beaten out of us by the British guards. I know my family came from County Cork but that's about it. A real shame really.
Does anyone mind translating the speech for me?

Ya need the players: They need just Three Strong point's: 1. Skillful / 2. COMMITMENT (never give up until the final whistle / Try for Every Ball / Run Run / Tackle / Pass / Score !! and be FIT.
my county Footballers An Dún ( Down) some of have The Skill ( abilities ) But Don't Want to play. one guy Mooney "texted" the manager to say he was "quitting / He Hadn't even the Descencey or guts, to tell the manager face to face. Better off without him and get a Hungey Committed play in that might not have as much talent but his hungry and " Passion " makes up for it.
To Play for your County is the Ultimate If you Love G.A.A. sports. I "retired" at 16 capaill (is my passion). but at 16 or 18 I didn't "think" that playing with a loosing Club you might be "spotted" but I can't stand Giving My All and the team Loosing nearly every match. I'm a Winner. My maternal G. father played for An Dún, Minor, Junior, Senior. his highest being an ulster Final in 1942 in Dundalk ( not Clones) where T.McP. scored 3 pts against Cavan. Down were beat 26-6 as 13 Down players went onto the pitch Drunk but my Grandfather was a Pioneer and another man. Granda got passed the great Gallant John Joe O'Reilly of Cavan that day. Granda told me John Joe had thighs on him like Tree trunks. Then a a soccer scout camr going Granda to go for a trial to Belfast Celtic but he wouldn't go. he had a faliny of 6 to "rear" and horses to work/keep. he was a Real Horseman that was his best ability a Great Judge of a horse and could train them to jump or do anything, he was a very lucky man. Happy Good go Lucky. slán
