@@KingKenny. I don't know the specifics of what he took in his later life but it has been suggested he was taking illegal drugs (cannabis and cocaine) and alcohol when he was married to his 4th wife Lynne Frederick (1977 - 1980).
A true genius, maybe the only actor, who deserved the OSCAR, which sadly did not find the way to him... He died decades too early. Bad timing, God, very bad timing!
Gene Shalit = Jiminy Glick ("Time magazine said that there's no one inside...who am I talking to now....I want to hear an accent....speak like a Londoner.....") Massive Talent meets Moustached Mediocrity.
Unforgivable that an interviewer would get it wrong Especially as peter sellers has been quoted many times as saying his happiest time professionally was when he was doing the Goon shows
I think you'll find that Gene said Go-on show like the BeebBeebCeeb did. Gene knew his stuff, did what he could to make Sellers feel comfortable and Peter looked so relaxed albeit ill.
Yes, agreed. Gene Shalitt is obnoxious and seems incapable of actually listening to Sellers. He wastes time demanding Sellers assess various audiences in different parts of the world. What a waste! Sellers just finished “Being There” and is not allowed to simply talk about his movie.
Amazing interview enjoying it so much then it ended i wish it could gone on much longer
What a talent
Being there is a masterpiece
Great interview. Peter Seller's was popular with an American audience. You could see that in the interview. Great British actor. Cheers RIP
host looks like one of clouseaus ridiculous disguises haha
Thanks for posting this Josip.
One of The Best Ever !
Very talented man indeed.
He's 54 here, but looks 70. So sad.
Sid James, another British actor, was similar.
6:15. Unless there's another interview where he did it later, that's the last time we ever hear the Clouseau voice.
ruclips.net/video/4kAqLe1bYOs/видео.html - only at the end.
I wonder if Peter Sellers was sick and tired of people asking him to do impressions towards the end of his life.
At 5:11 one of them was sounding like "Chief Inspector Dreyfus". 😂
Such a shame that despite being trim nearly his entire life he was not blessed with a strong heart !
Taking cocaine didn't help his heart.
@@Romulan2469 was he still taking it in his later years ?

Neither was his son, who also died of a heart attack in his early 50s, 26 years later to the day after Peter died.
@@Romulan2469 : Neither did cheeseburgers with extra mayo.
I forgot about Gene Shalit. I remember Tom Brokaw and Jane Pauley on the Today show in 1980.
He really sounds like Chance the Gardner at times
Watch "The Party" ..yr welcome..
Wow Eugene Levy and Peter Sellers.
Peter was a good sport but the interviewer might have just said "dance monkey dance"

Love this interviewer
Yeah me too ! He could be a character in one Peter Sellers movie LOL
Almost the last interview
Must have been very near the end this..
The Gong Show? 0:17
HughieDixon goon show
Unforgivable that an interviewer would get it wrong

Yeahhh... that was cringeworthy

Gene should have had a batter-pudding hurled at him for that
Is it true that actress Sue Lyon is a manic depressive sense are teenage years till now
Yes, very much so, and went from up at 16 to down down down
Gene Shalit is so aggressively offensive

i want a girl with a sick mind and a beautiful body..
Actress Sue Lyon Lolita
He looks so dreadfully ill here. Just a couple of years previously he looked well. Obvious what the reason was.
Truth Teller What was the raeason? Sorry I'm not familiar with Sellers' story,
@@neilsun2521 He had severe cardiac problems. he was actually dead for a few minutes due to a massive heart atatck he had in LA.
@@neilsun2521 he was also a heavy drinker and suffered from depression..
He died that year.
Just who is the silly looking interviewer?
He's Gene Shalit. He was a film critic and Today Show regular for 40 years. He's still on the go - 91 this year.
He looks silly but has more culture and personality than EVERY American TV host today put together. What happened?
