I was blessed to see the Mills Brothers perform, they came to town and our old boss Edward Gerber and his wife took us to see them. I was pregnant and they seated me at a door closest to the elevator and the band explained laughingly if I suddenly got up and left ...it wasn't because I wasn't enjoying their performance ...that I was due. Well I didn't miss anything that night so glad to have been there... they were quite wonderful...my son was born July 1974 to give you a time frame.
...there is good reason that Harry was Dean Martins absolute favorite..:) Man, these guys grooved with a timing and sound that nobody has been close to...
Another perfect performance from the immortals. They seem to have the capacity of changing speed, tempo & timbre like a pantheon of gods forming a universe..
Nunca los había visto, menos escuchado, ayer 16 de junio de 2024 Domingo los encontré, quee maravilla eran, demasiado buenos, también llegué demasiado tarde, inigualables, unos genios. Me imagino todos ya fallecieron. 🇨🇷
Is there no limit to their genius? Despite the loss of John Junior in 1936, Donald, Herbert and Harry hereby prove that their mastery of scat continued unabated with their beloved father, John Senior in John Junior's place. In both configurations, they took vocal gymnastics to the next level. From a technical standpoint, the Mills Brothers arguably tied with the legendary Heidelberg Quintet as the most adept vocal outfit of the 20th century. They are greatly missed.
Not only were these guys so talented in so many ways, we tend to forget their Guitarist Norman Brown, who was at the top of his field. The Mills brothers would never have had anyone play guitar for them who was less than perfect, and Norman Brown was that man , after their Brother John who had previously been their guitarist, died so suddenly so young..
Thanks for doing this. It makes it a lot easier to see how they are doing the parts (my group's trying to learn it). These guys were incredible and SO COOL.
drguitar001: you are a clearly conscientious & generous dude. i salute you! i was about to post the other out of sync version of this, then caught yours. thanking you greatly!
Not at this speed. This is the only recording I have of them singing it this fast. Their earlier recordings of this have them singing this much slower.
After John died on a tour in England, the father took over. That's him on the right. He eventually passed and they became a trio. Herbert, Donald (the youngest) and Harry.
The original had a little haze to the film so I raised the contrast to clear it up a bit. I also sharpened the video a little; that is probably what you find irritating. Sharpening the video can make the bright spots (like the stage lights shining on their foreheads) seem harsh. I'll try better next time.

dean martin said harry was a huge influence on him/ i just did a COOLGE on the comedian harmonists i hope some of you might tune into that as well they were into very similar things using their voices like instruments

My Mom loved the Mills Brothers, and had their albums in the 60’s. I was immediately hooked! I love their musical antics & such handsome gentleman.❤️

In later years Harry (the stout one) was blind. He had to be led onto the stage by holding on to a brother. The audience never knew it.

I only remember the Trio, I didn't realize it was a quartet. Remarkable!
Norman Brown was a guitar genious.

Sound like the first phase of hip hop
Why do I always confuse The Mills Brothers and The Ritz Brothers?
Back when people had real talent😅😅
I think Harry must've favored his Mom.
The original beat box.
This video in which year??
This is from the movie "Reveille with Beverly" from 1943.
Would someone please name them from left to right of screen. Pardon my ignorance.
Herbert, Donald, Harry, John Sr. (I think the guitarist was Cliff White)
@@elis6299 Thanks.
@@radic888 My pleasure.
Herb,joe,don n harry
Joe,Harry don n ?
Is this scating or yodeling?? This is borderline the origin of beatboxing 😮
Are they dead now?
Before which cadets was this gig?
Wow he was blind?
Harry went blind in later years because of diabetes. He wasn't blind in this performance.
