14:12 From the plan in the middle you can clearly see that the two pics are taken towards different sides of the lake, and the captions also reveal that in Chinese (“东” and "西" are East and West). So, Wangshu definitely knows that, but he deliberately chose to ignore the fact and then lied to the audience so naturally... The city is on the east side of the lake, while the mountains are on the west. You can check that on Google Maps easily. Not to mention that the city of Hangzhou had solid city walls until the 1920s or 30s, so his argument that citizens used to live closely with nature is untenable (such a lifestyle was only shown in the drawings by the middle and upper class, or as he said ‘scholars’). I really admire his study in the drawings and I like his works, but I can't believe he used to twist the facts to support his ‘philosophy’.
late stage capitaliism and multiple resets. we all do miss the old world. Sadly they robbed us of that realm. Most of it has been demolished and replaced. Keep asking questions!
I have respect for Wangshu and his work but feel sad about how his presentation is limited by language. I’ve seen him presenting almost the same content in different occasions with his mother tongue and it conveyed his philosophy much better. Maybe the Kenzo Tange Lecture could offer the guests translators?
It is funny how he barely referred to his own architecture as if the painting is enough to understaing some of his most known work! again a difference between east and west culture.
His lecture in Chinese was much easier to understand and also presented his idea much more clearly.
I think that painting is Along the River During the Qingming Festival
again reading an intro is a slap in the face
Presentation is not his forte but I get his main idea. Take architecture as landscape itself
YAY for holistic urbanity! what what!

but the first paper money was printed in Sichuan in the west of China, not in the capital.
Great lecture.
A shame that they didn`t let space for questions at the end of the lecture.

I feel he has a lot of anger, like many other Chinese, but he created peace in his architecture
true
If architects would run our world, we would have much more beauty&construction and much less politics&destruction (8

the lecture.. was only 2 hours long
I hate the way he refers China as 'they', as if he's not Chinese.
"They" obviously refer to these administrations who disregard traditional Chinese aesthetics.
