Yet he's so dedicated to his partner and does not overdance her(which he could do easily if he only wanted). He's extremely talented and charismatic dancer and he chooses to represent his lady here, not to steal all the glory from her. He is very modest in this dance considering all his physical abilities. He can also afford to be a "payaso" because he knows that if he only showed all he's able to do, nobody would watch anyone else in the room but him! Loove Rodrigo! Such a pleasure to watch when he dances solo❤
What a beautiful, honest dance! I love the way Rodrigo interprets songs. He knows and teaches about the many different types of music under the salsa umbrella, and knows how to dance them. I recommend his workshops.
It's smooth because the song is smooth. If it were a more dynamic song, they would've added a lot more shines and spins. If you notice around @2:40, they started adding those shines and grander movements because the trumpets in the song became more pronounced. They also moved a lot faster because the piano started playing more notes so the pacing quickened.
Exactly! Would you believe I see dancers (not talking about beginners, but intermediates and even some 'advanced' dancers) who will be doing handflicks, multiples spins, and other crazy stuff for a smooth beautiful song like this.

Bailar en este tiempo requiere una mejor sensibilidad musical pues tiene que desvincularse de los "cord beats", que suelen ser acentuados por el bajo o los vientos y coinciden con las cuentas 1 y 5. Por eso, para alguien que aprende de manera empírica, solo escuchando los instrumentos con más protagonismo (vientos y bajo), bailar "on2" parecería antinatural. Pero, bailar "on2" es como se bailaba incluso desde antes que la salsa actual existiera. El son, el ritmo que origina el resto de ritmos que se aglomera en la salsa, baila efectivamente con las congas, acentuando los golpes del macho y el redoble, coincidiendo estos con las cuentas 2 y 4. La mayor parte del tiempo baila con mucha calma, porque es lo que la música transmite y sabe reconocer cuando la canción pasa del fraseo a la descarga.

Social dancing has to be pleasant for both, it can be smooth, slow, fast, triky... It doesn't matter how it looks outside.
