Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed that State Pension payments will rise by the earnings growth measure of the Triple Lock policy during the Autumn Budget on Wednesday. This means millions of older people claiming the New and Basic State Pension will see payments rise by 4.1 per cent from next April. Similarly, people on disability benefits such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Attendance Allowance will see payments rise by the September Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate of 1.7 per cent. It's not just the winter fuel payments. A guy I spoke to who works for the ambulance service told me the elderly are way way down on the list when it comes to care within the NHS. They are left sitting in corridors whilst those in their 30's and 40's get priority for a bed. Absolutely disgusting.
I can testify to that 👆 as I was admitted by ambulance to hospital, eventually taken to a ward and the corridor was lined with elderly patients crying out for attention, yet I was given a room to myself. Honestly, I didn't want to be there but had no choice as I needed 2 blood transfusions.

I chatted to a pensioner the other day ,a stranger ,5 minutes into it ,she said she prays to god at night that she dosent wake up in the morning! I just didn’t know what to say ,what can you say -it’s no bloody wonder ,being cold is totally miserable ,and being hungry is horrid ,it’s just torture ,think of all the taxes and hard work our elderly have put into the system over the years ,now they can’t work ,it’s like they are not important -we are just tossing them aside and letting them die! My Dad, 85, gets attendance allowance, state and a small private pension, has a bit in the bank from my mams life insurance, has mixed dementia, stage 4 kidney failure and COPD has lost his winter payment, worked all his life and owns his home. I am fucking raging.
If there are M.P's in the government that feel any empathy with our precious pensioners today, let them come out and speak up. We should all stand shoulder to shoulder to help our elderly get what is rightfully theirs, winter fuel payments. Not some, but all who are on low income. My husband & friend popped into our local Wetherspoon’s & sat in a booth with an elderly man. He was drinking a mug of something & it was almost finished so looked as if he was leaving. However that was not the case. He was sitting in the pub, drinking tea all day, having endless refills, to keep warm for the cost of a cup of tea. After a chat a short while later he dozed off. He had lost his wife & came to the pub every day to keep warm & to chat with anyone willing or he would sit quietly dozing. When my husband left he gave the man a few pounds, the cost of a meal. The man wasn’t a beggar! This must be everyone’s nightmare fear that they will be alone, in a cold home, with little money to do anything else but sit in a pub every day nursing a mug of tea to legitimise being there!

The thermostat reads 11c, I have 5 layers of clothes on, 2 pairs of socks and slipper boots, in a sleeping bag with duvet around it and a hot water bottle. Wasn't it Rachel Reeves who spoke about meeting an elderly lady when she was out canvassing, and how it upset her when she reached out to shake that lady's hand only to find that it was purple with cold and freezing to touch? And Starmer, three days before the election told pensioners that they had "nothing to fear" from him. He also mentioned having had conversations with ladies in their 80's who had told him about their winter struggles and that they have to stay in bed during the day to keep warm. Starmer and Reeves are beyond contempt. In opposition they used the plight of pensioners as a stick to shake at the Tories. In July, Starmer used the pensioners when he made his "nothing to fear from me" comment. He said that he knew of the struggles pensioners faced with the cost of living and energy crises. He made them believe that a Labour government would care about them, but clearly, he only did that to gain their trust and get their votes. It's not just Reeves and Starmer though. It's every single MP who voted to remove the WFA - and then cheered when they (Labour) 'won' the vote. Some even fist-bumped. Having lost my wonderful husband on July 27th after a very long illness, let down by the failing NHS, seeing him chucked out of A & E on a freezing January night at 2.00am when he was dying., nothing surprises me anymore. I hear the heating kick in at night now even with the thermostat turned to minimum I know that the bill will be more than I can afford despite the both of us working hard from leaving school and getting qualified for our careers. Every night now, I hunker down under the covers by about 6.30pm to keep warm. I always believed we paid our national insurance contributions and taxes to insure us against poverty in our later years. I feel inclined to withhold paying the council tax I can't afford until this corrupt government is brought to its knees but being an honest woman of integrity, I will eat less, buy cheap food that isn't very nutritious and survive to be a voice for the downtrodden and oppressed.
We all need to stop paying. It all goes to government coffers where it's doled out to councils in limited amounts, we're not getting what we pay for. The state of our roads, parks, well, everything really. It's being taken off us and sent abroad.

I am a pensioner that is lucky to live in a sheltered housing complex in Bedfordshire. We have a community centre that we are all asking for a key to so we can sit in there this winter instead of freezing.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed that State Pension payments will rise by the earnings growth measure of the Triple Lock policy during the Autumn Budget on Wednesday. This means millions of older people claiming the New and Basic State Pension will see payments rise by 4.1 per cent from next April.
Similarly, people on disability benefits such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Attendance Allowance will see payments rise by the September Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate of 1.7 per cent. The Chancellor also announced that 7 million people on Universal Credit will see payments go up by 1.7 per cent next year.
We are surplus to their requirements now but we are still useful to our families.

It's not just the winter fuel payments. A guy I spoke to who works for the ambulance service told me the elderly are way way down on the list when it comes to care within the NHS. They are left sitting in corridors whilst those in their 30's and 40's get priority for a bed. Absolutely disgusting.
I can testify to that 👆 as I was admitted by ambulance to hospital, eventually taken to a ward and the corridor was lined with elderly patients crying out for attention, yet I was given a room to myself. Honestly, I didn't want to be there but had no choice as I needed 2 blood transfusions.

My husband & friend popped into our local Wetherspoon’s & sat in a booth with an elderly man. He was drinking a mug of something & it was almost finished so looked as if he was leaving. However that was not the case. He was sitting in the pub, drinking tea all day, having endless refills, to keep warm for the cost of a cup of tea. After a chat a short while later he dozed off. He had lost his wife & came to the pub every day to keep warm & to chat with anyone willing or he would sit quietly dozing. When my husband left he gave the man a few pounds, the cost of a meal. The man wasn’t a beggar! This must be everyone’s nightmare fear that they will be alone, in a cold home, with little money to do anything else but sit in a pub every day nursing a mug of tea to legitimise being there!

mu point british workers 42-70hrs a week with exception unpaid carers are 24/7/365 =168 hrs on duty..so uk workers work twice or more for decent wage to warrant same or better reward.yes we sort of have left EU but figures should match minium to brexit period

Wasn't it Rachel Reeves who spoke about meeting an elderly lady when she was out canvassing, and how it upset her when she reached out to shake that lady's hand only to find that it was purple with cold and freezing to touch?
And Starmer, three days before the election told pensioners that they had "nothing to fear" from him. He also mentioned having had conversations with ladies in their 80's who had told him about their winter struggles and that they have to stay in bed during the day to keep warm.
Starmer and Reeves are beyond contempt. In opposition they used the plight of pensioners as a stick to shake at the Tories. In July, Starmer used the pensioners when he made his "nothing to fear from me" comment. He said that he knew of the struggles pensioners faced with the cost of living and energy crises. He made them believe that a Labour government would care about them, but clearly, he only did that to gain their trust and get their votes.
It's not just Reeves and Starmer though. It's every single MP who voted to remove the WFA - and then cheered when they (Labour) 'won' the vote. Some even fist-bumped.
Anyone who would use the elderly in this way and then abandon them the moment they could - and cheered having done so - is beyond contempt.
Starmer is just a liar!

My 90 year old cancer suffering mum will not claim any pension benefit because she refuses to let people look at her finances and I’m sure many in her age group are equally as proud which I think the government knows this- they’re evil 😔

Having lost my wonderful husband on July 27th after a very long illness, let down by the failing NHS, seeing him chucked out of A & E on a freezing January night at 2.00am when he was dying., nothing surprises me anymore. I hear the heating kick in at night now even with the thermostat turned to minimum I know that the bill will be more than I can afford despite the both of us working hard from leaving school and getting qualified for our careers. Every night now, I hunker down under the covers by about 6.30pm to keep warm. I always believed we paid our national insurance contributions and taxes to insure us against poverty in our later years. I feel inclined to withhold paying the council tax I can't afford until this corrupt government is brought to its knees but being an honest woman of integrity, I will eat less, buy cheap food that isn't very nutritious and survive to be a voice for the downtrodden and oppressed.

We all need to stop paying. It all goes to government coffers where it's doled out to councils in limited amounts, we're not getting what we pay for. The state of our roads, parks, well, everything really. It's being taken off us and sent abroad.
@@huporhaha1 I am so sorry, I feel for you,. I too, was on a trolley for 3 days and only got on a ward after they got round to giving me an MRI scan and found a brain tumour. Yet, these illegals have a doctor and nurse I THE BLOODY HOTEL. Words fail me. Are the hospitals better? Have the potholes been filled? No and they won't be while they are paying to keep these migrants in Hotels. So much for 'smash the gangs'.

My old dog was freezing last year I kept a coat on him day and night and he had 2 coats on when walking. I really miss him ❤
I am a pensioner that is lucky to live in a sheltered housing complex in Bedfordshire. We have a community centre that we are all asking for a key to so we can sit in there this winter instead of freezing.
