- Scuba Dives North Stradbroke Island - Shag Rock
Shag Rock is just off the northern end of North Stradbroke Island. It gets its name because “Shags”, a type of seabird, that congregates on it.
Only getting to about 14m, this is a nice easy dive that has plenty of life around it. On our dive, apart from the numerous reef species of fish, other critters were spotted - turtles, eels, octopus, wobbegongs, and a crayfish.
This was a two-dive trip. Dive one was on the western side which offered protection from the ocean current. Visibility was great and there was no current or surge. The dive was very pleasurable. The eastern side was a little harder with visibility not as good. It also had some surge and current. The last few minutes of this video are of the eastern side. Fish life was lesser on this side, but I was told that this is where the bigger critters like to be when they are here.
Shad Rock is definitely worth a dive so make it a stop when your off North Stradbroke Island.
