The only reasons to why Connie was "ashamed" of Steven in Future was because he wanted to marry her while they were both still teenagers and live the rest of their lives as Stevonnie, also besides those other facts that you mentioned about their relationship, it was shown to mostly be healthy in the main series and it's implied that they became a couple in the end due to kissing each other right before Steven left Beach City in the final episode "The Future"!

You didn't even go into how toxic Lapis was to Peridot at all. She was very emotionally controlling towards her. Yes, Peridot wasn't a saint towards her and kept her as a prisoner, but that still doesn't excuse just how awful and manipulative she became towards her as Peridot made up for what she did. All you need to do is watch Raising the Barn to know that, plus the fact that they stopped living with one another after that.
Greg and his parents he mention to Steven in mr universe About his bad and complicated relationships including their strictly and miserable choice they made for him and never let him do anything he really likes or interested like music they looked like off limits. Greg try to hide his interested to music from them and even try to stay in touch with letters in years they never come to opens anyhings off them and not even get in touch to him they still today not accept his choises very example off toxic relationships.

Even though I haven’t seen the show I’ve heard RUclipsrs talking about it and PhantomStrider talked about them on one of the lists he made. Unfortunately I don’t remember what list it was, as I watch his content on the regular as much as possible so I tend to forget some of his older videos, but he really describes the issue of abuse through those two.

They were made at the same time, (I assume, nothing saying otherwise) and they each have a ying yang thing with their counterparts. Blue uses emotional damage, Yellow uses physical, White has the best offense and a gem in her forehead, Pink had defense and a gem in her stomach, it works out pretty well for them to be quadruplets, with pink being the runt.
I think that's kinda the point and something blatantly stated in future with the lars/Sadie/shep situation. It's also something that Rebecca sugar has said. That the world continues without Steven always being there or the audience to view it. I like that about the show it really gives it it's own life

SU the series being entirely from Steven's viewpoint is not really a hindrance, assuming that the series format is that of a the story of an unusual boy maturing and not "The Crystal Gem Rebellion" or "The Gem Empire Story". There were several episodes that told a story that takes place beyond Steven's view, using flashbacks and other strategies.
I see them as guardians for pink, but that doesn't mean they have to be sisters or lovers. I leave it open to interpretation and read both versions. Ha
Never saw it, their poses, their gestures, White's "Yellow is so strong and yet so weak for Blue" always seemed more couplely then anything. And how they treat Pink feels like more of a parent with a child.

It is so amazing that WickedBinge not only fully knew and fully addressed the giant ass elephant in the room, that is Peridot starting off as Lapis Lazuli’s jailer when they first meet each other, yet WickedBinge also fully acknowledged and fully addressed that Lapis had very good solid reasons to resent Peridot when they meet each other again at the barn, hence why Peridot had to work so hard to make amends before befriending Lapis… Which a giant ass elephant in the room that so many Lapis Lazuli haters completely failed to notice about Peridot! That and the issue between Lapis and Jasper was also well explained. I give my respect to this video, good job.👏

I have a couple issues with this, the first being the healthy relationships. I couldn't help but notice that almost all if not all are couples that have a tiny amount of screentime, which prevents really being able to rank them. There are also a few "couples" that aren't couples, like the diamonds, who are sisters, and Lapis and Peridot, who are friends. There's also Steven and Connie not breaking up and Rose and Pearl not being a real couple, it was more of a one sided obsession.
In terms of Steven and Connie's relationship; though my fanfic called The Contest of Champions, I've created a way that not only shows Connie just how much her behavior hurt Steven (and vice versa) but also a way that helped give Steven the kind of closure with his life we didn't get to see in the series. Without going too deep into spoilers; she, the Crystal Gems, Greg and even the Diamonds are all brought within a place called "the Mindscape." It's here they get to see all of Steven's trauma through memories, witness how much self-harm his negativity has caused his innermost self and most of all, it's the place that helps Connie realize that SHE needs to change as well
I honestly don't think Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond's relationship should be in the toxic category or so close to the bottom. For one thing, Yellow and Blue are clearly close. For another, it's hard to tell if Yellow and Blue can be considered a couple or if it is simply a close familial connection, which does make a difference. They may have their issues due to what happened to Pink, but for the most part, Yellow and Blue remained close. The only reason Blue turned against Yellow at all is because she loved Pink, and by extension Steven. Blue Diamond didn't even want to fight Yellow Diamond, but she did want to protect Steven, and since Yellow wasn't going to hesitate to attack Steven, Blue had no choice but to fight back. Blue and Yellow always cared for each other. At their worst, they would definitely be in the grey area. Also, Steven and Connie's relationship should definitely be in the healthy category with the positives in their relationship outweighing the negatives. In fact, Connie's arguably Steven's best support system.
The reason why it's in the grey area is because of the troubles Steven and Connie had in the series. I can list most of them at the top of my head: #1: Lying to each other constantly. It's one thing to tell white lies, but not being honest with each other isn't healthy. Like when Connie lied to her mom about Steven having a mom. And when she doesn't tell Steven why she was upset at him when he came back from Homeworld after the Aquamarine incident. leaving Steven clueless and thinking that he ruined his friendship with her. And Steven lies to her, too. Like when he tried pushing off his issues with her, and not telling anyone that he went to the hospital. #2: Obsession with fusion. Throughout the series, whenever Steven and Connie are in a jam, their go-to solution is fusion. Now, that isn't so bad, considering that they are very small compared to their enemies, but after Connie getting sword-fighting lessons and Steven learning his defensive powers, you would think they would try to hold their own. They just use fusion as a crutch, which would be their downfall if they faced an opponent that is stronger than them, like Yellow Diamond and Aquamarine. As well as Steven tried to be like Garnet, and be a permanent fusion, which cannot work in the society they live in, because Connie has a future ahead of her. #3: Connie is always getting Steven in trouble. When Connie got more involved with the Crystal Gems, she did some things that were just completely unjustified or plain stupid. The first instance is when she put Steven through depression because she didn't bother to explain to him why she was upset when he got home from Homeworld after being taken by Aquamarine. She didn't call or text him back after he sent countless texts to her, and she didn't even try to talk to him about it in person (she came to his house one time, and that was when he was gone during Gemcation, and she didn't even try again after that). Steven and Connie wouldn't have gotten back on better terms if not for Kevin inviting them both to his party (don't bullshit me by saying, "Connie would've came by at Steven's house" when she only tried once and NEVER tried again). And then, when they were at the ball, Connie decided to be a dumbass and encouraged Steven to dance in the ballroom, IN FRONT OF THE DIAMONDS! What the fuck did she expect to happen?! Considering how hard it was for them to even get good with the Diamonds, Connie fucks it up within a minute (yes, I know they resolved it all in the end, but this was just plain fucking stupid). That's why Steven and Connie are in the grey area.

Some reasoning is valid such as the lying that occurs between the two of them, and Connie sometimes getting them into trouble, but I don't think they're as obsessed with fusion as you make them out to be, Connie did flat out say what was bothering before that episode with Kevin's party, Steven has gotten Connie into trouble himself, and their relationship has gotten better over the course of the series to the point where Steven is more comfortable around Connie than the crystal gems sometimes. I still think their relationship is better in the good area than the grey area.
@@StareachValcin You made valid points. I got overzealous when using the word 'obsessed' because I was thinking of Steven trying to marry Connie and be like Garnet. My main gripe in that topic was them using fusion as a crutch. I think they're a decent couple, but with the way Connie was written for the later seasons, I roll my eyes. Yeah, I know Steven got Connie into trouble before, but I still can't get over the fact that Connie thought dancing in front of the Diamonds was a good idea. She's supposed to be smart, and she knows better. Steven did try to tell her no, but she insisted that dancing was okay since White Diamond wasn't there, resulting in them being thrown in the tower for days, nearly starving to death. At least when Steven gets Connie into trouble, it doesn't almost cost them their lives.

Steven was even partially responsible for aquamarine almost kidnapping her when he unintentionally made a list of humans to Peridot to be potentially taken off Earth to appease Blue Diamond. Connie may have messed up with the ball by dancing with Steven, but they weren't even trying to fuse and she was trying to cheer Steven up. Not to mention that she did take responsibility when confronting Blue Diamond. Plus, Steven isn't known for thinking things through. He thought that he could just talk to White Diamond at the ball to change things, but his plan completely falls apart when White Diamond chooses not to come. Steven makes mistakes just like Connie does. They aren't perfect, but they are a good couple for each other.
I still wish we could have got a peridot lapis fusion. Imo, Peri had the best character development through the series and movie. Then there's Pink Diamond/Rose who started great, but as it went on, she just got worst being the conflict for pretty much everything and left Steven and gems to fix her mess
I’m glad to see both friendships and partnership/companionship on this list. With Sadie and Lars it was definitely an interest that never happened, lapis and peridot was a friendship that started from a rocky start in a friendship and being roommates that could evolve into something more like fusing. Jasper and lapis is obviously forcing oneself onto another. Pearl and pink diamond was a one sided love and was the master and servant thing, but the servant has a crush on the master. As for blue and yellow diamond they are more sisters or toxic friends.
Steven and Connie is the healthiest hetero relationship i've seen where they both willing to protect, sacrifices self for one another and fight against all odds with eachother. They are the epitome of a ride or die, bestfriends to lovers dynamics. How come do we not have more straight relationship dynamic like this in American (cartoon or not) shows?? They have such a supportive and healthy relationship, with a little bit struggles all because of the gem dramas and personal life disadvantages. But they both want eachother to be save. Connie didn’t regent Stevens proposal, she said “Not now”. She loves him but they’re too young to think about marriage. She is simply the most mature and level headed one in the relationship.
This video really feels like it lacks any nuance whatsoever. Most of the “healthy” relationships were just characters who barely had any screentime or opportunities to show bumps that come up in any relationship. No relationship is perfect and honestly this whole video just feel icky….

Gems have no concept of family, so no, Yellow and Blue Diamond aren’t sisters. They are the toxic version of Connie’s parents. They have countless parallels with each other. I believe Blue and Yellow can work their relationship now and start growing together.
Jasper and Lapis is a good definition of a toxic and abusive relationship, Lapis felt like a prisoner so she wished to make jasper the same and worse, Jasper felt like she was a failure and thus took it out on lapis, this created a give and take abusive relationship. Lapis was able to recognize the bad in the relationship and didn't let the power and hatred she had for jasper bring her back in to a bad situation, now as for lapis and peridot it could use some work seeing as lapis has control and trust issues., Once she felt like she was in danger she had actually stole their home and ran off with out putting her faith in peridot as a partner, she never apologized for it from what we saw on screen, peridot seems like a good partner once she is able to gain sight passed her learned toxic behavior seeing as she gave lapis time to process and go through her trauma and worked to gain her trust and faith, Now as for the fusing it seems like lapis can respect and understand why peridot isn't comfortable with going through such an intimate situation as the closest comparison I can make is its like coming to your partners home and meeting their family for the first time ever. It can be a very scary and stressful experience especially if your not fully comfortable with the idea. Now lapis of course has trauma related to fusing and it is understandable her relucantce to go through it again, peridot and her seem to have a respectful same view on the issue and seem willing to let the other work on their comfort level at their pace and not rush it.
It’s highkey annoying when videos like this purposely miss the point of certain toxic relationships. Jasper and Lapis was not a one sided abuse. They were both toxic. Jasper started it, trying to use lapis to destroy the gems. But after Lapis trapped her, she literally admits IN THE SHOW that she consistently abused Jasper and enjoyed it. She grew obsessed with having someone to take out all her anger on. Jasper developed stolkhome syndrome and THATS why she begged Lapis to refuse. Not because she was trying to be manipulative. Even though I haven’t seen the show I’ve heard RUclipsrs talking about it and PhantomStrider talked about them on one of the lists he made. Unfortunately I don’t remember what list it was, as I watch his content on the regular as much as possible so I tend to forget some of his older videos, but he really describes the issue of abuse through those two.

They were made at the same time, (I assume, nothing saying otherwise) and they each have a ying yang thing with their counterparts. Blue uses emotional damage, Yellow uses physical, White has the best offense and a gem in her forehead, Pink had defense and a gem in her stomach, it works out pretty well for them to be quadruplets, with pink being the runt.

That the world continues without Steven always being there or the audience to view it. I like that about the show it really gives it it's own life

SU the series being entirely from Steven's viewpoint is not really a hindrance, assuming that the series format is that of a the story of an unusual boy maturing and not "The Crystal Gem Rebellion" or "The Gem Empire Story". There were several episodes that told a story that takes place beyond Steven's view, using flashbacks and other strategies.

It is so amazing that WickedBinge not only fully knew and fully addressed the giant ass elephant in the room, that is Peridot starting off as Lapis Lazuli’s jailer when they first meet each other, yet WickedBinge also fully acknowledged and fully addressed that Lapis had very good solid reasons to resent Peridot when they meet each other again at the barn, hence why Peridot had to work so hard to make amends before befriending Lapis… Which a giant ass elephant in the room that so many Lapis Lazuli haters completely failed to notice about Peridot!
That and the issue between Lapis and Jasper was also well explained.

Which just further enforces how a generalist YT channel, like WickedBinge that broadly expands its topics on a variety of media, actually understands Lapis Lazuli far better in only the short few minutes they explain about her as a character, than these so-called hardcore specialist investors on Steven Universe ever could.
I have a couple issues with this, the first being the healthy relationships. I couldn't help but notice that almost all if not all are couples that have a tiny amount of screentime, which prevents really being able to rank them. There are also a few "couples" that aren't couples, like the diamonds, who are sisters, and Lapis and Peridot, who are friends. There's also Steven and Connie not breaking up and Rose and Pearl not being a real couple, it was more of a one sided obsession.
In terms of Steven and Connie's relationship; though my fanfic called The Contest of Champions, I've created a way that not only shows Connie just how much her behavior hurt Steven (and vice versa) but also a way that helped give Steven the kind of closure with his life we didn't get to see in the series.
Without going too deep into spoilers; she, the Crystal Gems, Greg and even the Diamonds are all brought within a place called "the Mindscape." It's here they get to see all of Steven's trauma through memories, witness how much self-harm his negativity has caused his innermost self and most of all, it's the place that helps Connie realize that SHE needs to change as well

I honestly don't think Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond's relationship should be in the toxic category or so close to the bottom. For one thing, Yellow and Blue are clearly close. For another, it's hard to tell if Yellow and Blue can be considered a couple or if it is simply a close familial connection, which does make a difference. They may have their issues due to what happened to Pink, but for the most part, Yellow and Blue remained close. The only reason Blue turned against Yellow at all is because she loved Pink, and by extension Steven. Blue Diamond didn't even want to fight Yellow Diamond, but she did want to protect Steven, and since Yellow wasn't going to hesitate to attack Steven, Blue had no choice but to fight back. Blue and Yellow always cared for each other. At their worst, they would definitely be in the grey area. Also, Steven and Connie's relationship should definitely be in the healthy category with the positives in their relationship outweighing the negatives. In fact, Connie's arguably Steven's best support system.
The reason why it's in the grey area is because of the troubles Steven and Connie had in the series. I can list most of them at the top of my head:
#1: Lying to each other constantly. It's one thing to tell white lies, but not being honest with each other isn't healthy. Like when Connie lied to her mom about Steven having a mom. And when she doesn't tell Steven why she was upset at him when he came back from Homeworld after the Aquamarine incident. leaving Steven clueless and thinking that he ruined his friendship with her. And Steven lies to her, too. Like when he tried pushing off his issues with her, and not telling anyone that he went to the hospital.
#2: Obsession with fusion. Throughout the series, whenever Steven and Connie are in a jam, their go-to solution is fusion. Now, that isn't so bad, considering that they are very small compared to their enemies, but after Connie getting sword-fighting lessons and Steven learning his defensive powers, you would think they would try to hold their own. They just use fusion as a crutch, which would be their downfall if they faced an opponent that is stronger than them, like Yellow Diamond and Aquamarine. As well as Steven tried to be like Garnet, and be a permanent fusion, which cannot work in the society they live in, because Connie has a future ahead of her.
#3: Connie is always getting Steven in trouble. When Connie got more involved with the Crystal Gems, she did some things that were just completely unjustified or plain stupid. The first instance is when she put Steven through depression because she didn't bother to explain to him why she was upset when he got home from Homeworld after being taken by Aquamarine. She didn't call or text him back after he sent countless texts to her, and she didn't even try to talk to him about it in person (she came to his house one time, and that was when he was gone during Gemcation, and she didn't even try again after that). Steven and Connie wouldn't have gotten back on better terms if not for Kevin inviting them both to his party (don't bullshit me by saying, "Connie would've came by at Steven's house" when she only tried once and NEVER tried again). And then, when they were at the ball, Connie decided to be a dumbass and encouraged Steven to dance in the ballroom, IN FRONT OF THE DIAMONDS! What the fuck did she expect to happen?! Considering how hard it was for them to even get good with the Diamonds, Connie fucks it up within a minute (yes, I know they resolved it all in the end, but this was just plain fucking stupid).
That's why Steven and Connie are in the grey area.

Some reasoning is valid such as the lying that occurs between the two of them, and Connie sometimes getting them into trouble, but I don't think they're as obsessed with fusion as you make them out to be, Connie did flat out say what was bothering before that episode with Kevin's party, Steven has gotten Connie into trouble himself, and their relationship has gotten better over the course of the series to the point where Steven is more comfortable around Connie than the crystal gems sometimes. I still think their relationship is better in the good area than the grey area.
@@StareachValcin You made valid points. I got overzealous when using the word 'obsessed' because I was thinking of Steven trying to marry Connie and be like Garnet. My main gripe in that topic was them using fusion as a crutch. I think they're a decent couple, but with the way Connie was written for the later seasons, I roll my eyes. Yeah, I know Steven got Connie into trouble before, but I still can't get over the fact that Connie thought dancing in front of the Diamonds was a good idea. She's supposed to be smart, and she knows better. Steven did try to tell her no, but she insisted that dancing was okay since White Diamond wasn't there, resulting in them being thrown in the tower for days, nearly starving to death. At least when Steven gets Connie into trouble, it doesn't almost cost them their lives.
@@Samuel152 except when they were trapped in a bubble and almost drowned. Steven has gotten himself and Connie into trouble and almost died. Steven was even partially responsible for aquamarine almost kidnapping her when he unintentionally made a list of humans to Peridot to be potentially taken off Earth to appease Blue Diamond. Connie may have messed up with the ball by dancing with Steven, but they weren't even trying to fuse and she was trying to cheer Steven up. Not to mention that she did take responsibility when confronting Blue Diamond. Plus, Steven isn't known for thinking things through. He thought that he could just talk to White Diamond at the ball to change things, but his plan completely falls apart when White Diamond chooses not to come. Steven makes mistakes just like Connie does. They aren't perfect, but they are a good couple for each other.
Blue and Yellow are literally sisters and pink is their little sis and white is the mother. They are Steven's Aunts and White is Steven's Grandmother.

I still wish we could have got a peridot lapis fusion. Imo, Peri had the best character development through the series and movie. Then there's Pink Diamond/Rose who started great, but as it went on, she just got worst being the conflict for pretty much everything and left Steven and gems to fix her mess
I’m glad to see both friendships and partnership/companionship on this list. With Sadie and Lars it was definitely an interest that never happened, lapis and peridot was a friendship that started from a rocky start in a friendship and being roommates that could evolve into something more like fusing. Jasper and lapis is obviously forcing oneself onto another. Pearl and pink diamond was a one sided love and was the master and servant thing, but the servant has a crush on the master. As for blue and yellow diamond they are more sisters or toxic friends.

This video really feels like it lacks any nuance whatsoever. Most of the “healthy” relationships were just characters who barely had any screentime or opportunities to show bumps that come up in any relationship. No relationship is perfect and honestly this whole video just feel icky….

Gems have no concept of family, so no, Yellow and Blue Diamond aren’t sisters.
They are the toxic version of Connie’s parents. They have countless parallels with each other. I believe Blue and Yellow can work their relationship now and start growing together.
Jasper and Lapis is a good definition of a toxic and abusive relationship, Lapis felt like a prisoner so she wished to make jasper the same and worse, Jasper felt like she was a failure and thus took it out on lapis, this created a give and take abusive relationship.
Lapis was able to recognize the bad in the relationship and didn't let the power and hatred she had for jasper bring her back in to a bad situation, now as for lapis and peridot it could use some work seeing as lapis has control and trust issues.,
Once she felt like she was in danger she had actually stole their home and ran off with out putting her faith in peridot as a partner, she never apologized for it from what we saw on screen, peridot seems like a good partner once she is able to gain sight passed her learned toxic behavior seeing as she gave lapis time to process and go through her trauma and worked to gain her trust and faith,
Now as for the fusing it seems like lapis can respect and understand why peridot isn't comfortable with going through such an intimate situation as the closest comparison I can make is its like coming to your partners home and meeting their family for the first time ever.
It can be a very scary and stressful experience especially if your not fully comfortable with the idea. Now lapis of course has trauma related to fusing and it is understandable her relucantce to go through it again, peridot and her seem to have a respectful same view on the issue and seem willing to let the other work on their comfort level at their pace and not rush it.
Lapis and Peridot are also extremely toxic, not to the level of Lapis and Jasper, but still toxic

It’s highkey annoying when videos like this purposely miss the point of certain toxic relationships. Jasper and Lapis was not a one sided abuse. They were both toxic. Jasper started it, trying to use lapis to destroy the gems. But after Lapis trapped her, she literally admits IN THE SHOW that she consistently abused Jasper and enjoyed it. She grew obsessed with having someone to take out all her anger on. Jasper developed stolkhome syndrome and THATS why she begged Lapis to refuse. Not because she was trying to be manipulative. She was desperate because after being in that environment for so long, she grew obsessed with it too
