*1) Why no talking?* I didn't have time to talk on the first day...where I camped was a makeshift plan C for the day so it was a long one. With the original plan and backup plan going down the drain, all I could do was chill out in that spot so there wasn't much to say. But I've been wanting to record uninterrupted footage of a hot tent trip that I could do a "How To" hot tent video so I used this trip as a chance to get that footage. The "How to Winter Camp in a Hot Tent" video will be coming soon with voiceover *2) Why so short?* I would rather make long videos that give you long enough to get into them. But the footage dictates the pace and duration. My plans went down the drain and nothing happened...Not gonna drag this out for an hour
This was absolutely wonderful, actually! I got quite giddy as soon as I realized this was gonna be hot tent ASMR. Seriously cool vibe. I hope you do more like this!
You did a great job with filming . I felt like I was there setting up winter camp myself. It's the simple silence and alone time I enjoy the most out on adventures in the winter.
You wont get much peace and quiet when you're married, buddy so make the most of it while you can. 😀 Absolutely gorgeous silent movie just before Christmas! Peace and health!
The voiceless story was no less s story, nor was the camera work diminished. If we actually didn’t talk to ourselves, then this is what camping is….the zip zop of our snowpants against the subtle winter soundscape. Loved it!!!
Amongst all the negative comments about no talking, I'm glad to see you get it. I've camped for several days by myself and not uttered a word. It's kind of like vocally fasting. For me it certainly cleans my thinking.
And thank you for the support GB! Really appreciate it. The internet is so reactive...it would be awesome if people said things like they were looking the person in the eye
Hi Jon! Hampus from Sweden here. I just want you to know how much your videos mean to me. They are the perfect combination of beautifully filmed nature and fantastic company. They’ve really got me threw this rainy and stressful autumn. Thank you so much for that, looking forward to more winter camping videos!
i was actually distracted by the quality of the editing. It was magical. I picture you behind a computer cutting for hours. I guess that's because I have tried my hand a little at this. The video quality is impressive. The editing is mastery. Poetry is cutting everything down to just enough for the watcher to fill in the blanks with their own personal experiences with wilderness. Thank you for all the work you do on this. If you had a membership I would join to help support this channel that has brought me so much joy.
Your winter hot tent camp has become so refined, the word that describes it is comfortable, I'm not saying it doesn't require work to set up and maintain but you look very snug and relaxed. Your "how to" video will be a master class on this style of winter camp. Really nicely done. The absence of dialouge is definitely a less is more effect in this video.
Hi there! The power of such videos is that even with the eyes closed you still get the tranquility you need! i lke watching skillfull people like you being able to survive through rough weather conditions! greetings from Greece!
I enjoy seeing your cinematography evolve. My faves are the micro shots/still lifes of nature. Also great book! I highly recommend The Tiger by the same author. True story of a tiger who takes revenge in Siberia. Good read for winter camping haha!
Go figure, -8C here tonight. Wind. Not sure the new house will stand the strain. Will know when the night is over and the Texas sun has it's way. The hot tent is so inviting. Never thought to use my toboggan to haul my gear when I was a kid?
My 90 year old mother enjoyed going for a walk with you in the winter woods this morning Jon! This was special to her since she can no longer do it herself as she use to enjoying her younger years . Thanks Jon! 😃
It was odd not to hear you, Jon! Great video, but damn man - you make me homesick! Can I be your friend??😉 Merry Christmas and happy New Year to both of you - thanks for all that you do!! PS - how could I send you guys a small, but very useful gift for your canoe adventures? (As a way of giving back for the joy you bring me)
Wonderful video! I far prefer the ones with you narrating, it brings me into the video more, but any content from your channel is welcome! Happy holidays to you and yours!
Absolutely loved the silent video. It's so nice to be able to hear nature and natural sounds like chopping wood or the sizzle of the snow dropping on the stove. Can't stand all the bs some people feel they need to spew out and quoting or acting movies scenes. Thanks for something different and refreshing.
Absolutely fantastic!!!! I think that is the first time I've seen you use a Crazy Creek chair, a great relief for those long winter nights in the tent. Really well done, Thank You.
Great video Jon. The sounds of silence. Can’t wait for the ice fishing/ camping vids to come. Do you plan on inviting Erin’s sister this year. That was a funny video with those 2.
Thank you :) I hoped to ice fish on this trip but the access didn't work out. Yeah I think we'll get out with her again, possibly just Erin and her...such a squeeze to have three in our tents
I am older now and enjoy he outdoors vicariously through u tube. My adventuring days are over ..... and I have to find other ways to satisfy my love of the outdoors. Just watched your hike into a remote lake! Enjoyed the riddles and your other observations. I am a great fan of Tolkien! Thanks for your really good video!!!
Glad to see you moved up from the body bag! And no talking was necessary. The sounds (or lack there of) of the wilderness in the snow is just glorious. Best wishes to you and Erin in this holiday season!
Terrific video Jon. Loved the silence of being alone! Unless of course you talk to yourself sometimes as many of us are inclined to do occasionally!!!😂
Jon this was great! I always watch your videos and several others from a few other related channels., you have camped with most of them. I almost never comment, but sometimes on yours I can’t help myself. Thank you
Hi Jon, i read your explanation for no narration, however just wanted to let you know i think your great narration stands you apart from other people in this space (yes like Zander,, who i like as well), keep up the great narration and btw, your cinematography has impressed me greatly as it keeps getting better and better over time! Well done. Kevin
Loved the sound of silence in this video. Any chance do get a ice fishing or paddle expedition with Joe R. and Shawn James? Missing Erin. Give her a hug please. God bless, Tom.
Thanks Tom :) Been trying to meet up with Joe for a while but not in touch with Shawn, and Erin and I should be getting out soon for our NYE winter camping tradition
Thanks for sharing. Absolutely love camping. There’s nothing more beautiful than our European winter. Keep posting and please talk to us. Take care. Love from Australia.
Love all your content and always enjoy your chat. But was nice to allow the joy of solitude camping in its simplicity speak for itself in the peace and tranquillity of the forest.

Beautiful video, wonderful editing, great entertainment, man didn't have to say a word. Try to find that on YT ! The north doesn't get snow like it used to ,,,
Nice video Jon. As a long time watcher since the start of the channel I love when you film a quiet episode. One of my favorites is still the quiet footage on Superior with all the underwater footage and sounds of the water. Cool to have a winter episode of solitude.
@@LostLakes Yes sir, I met Jim and his family this fall on my way back from moose hunting. Had a chat with them and they ended up staying a night at my cabin…. Pretty cool experience forsure. If you and Erin ever do a Labrador trip you are more then welcome to stay with us also, take care

I love the variety and enjoy watching different footage.
I thought the change up was good. Was different to listen to the sounds going on 👍
This helped my 4 year old fall asleep. She said she likes your sweater and your food "even if it's a little burnt, I'm sure he won't mind"
😆💚
I really enjoyed the part where you said that thing about camping solo in the snow in a hot tent
I told you not to put the Q-tips in so deep

The Sounds of camping in winter ! You absolutely captured it ! Loved it. Thank-you
The landscape and raw winter speak for themselves. Cool video!

Thanks for sharing your "peace and quiet". Always enjoy your commentary, but totally got this!

This was like a Lost Lakes episode in the style of Erik Normark - nice to change it up once in a while.
Relaxing. Listening to the forest sure beats listening to the city.
The golden spruce. That's a good book!!
Very good

This new one with an internal frame makes it a cinch :)
In winter, talking breaks the absolute silence of the forest. Seems appropriate to allow the silence to reign.
I be buying my first tent like ever next week, cant decide on the model, single person, sleeping only, winter usage preferred.
