Carnival Horizon: Curacao - Turtles, Fish & Flamingos, OH MY!!

- Nurse Nancy and Hannah set off from the Carnival Horizon with a stop at Curacao. Follow us as we take a cruise-line excursion named "Beach Hop & Turtle Snorkel Adventure". It is truly amazing as we stop at "Playa Piscado" where the fishermen attract young turtles and colorful fish with their scraps. We see tons of colorful fish and swim right next to huge green sea turtles!
We then head out to another beach, named "Cas Abao" beach where we find lots of parrot fish among the coral and even find a sea anemone!
To make the excursion even better, they surprise us with a stop by the salt flats to view a huge flock of wild flamingos - I LOVE those flamingos and this really is the "icing on the cake"!!
I MIGHT do a foolish thing and venture out alone a night to get a quick glimpse of the Queen Emma bridge at night...that walkway was NOT well lit!

Excellent!! We recently did this excursion again and saw lots of turtles, although they were further away from the pier. The tour operators are very knowledgeable, and the second beach where you can snorkel also has lovely coral and fish! ENJOY!

My daughter and I did the same excursion through Royal the first week of February. I shared your emotions as well. I know I cried happy tears because this was a bucket list for me. You seem to have had a lot more turtles the day you did this and your tour guides seemed awesome. Not that ours were not, but they shared more with you. It's always luck of the draw. lol I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone interested. Loved this video and have truly enjoyed this series with Hannah! Thank you for sharing your experience. My favorite part was you talking to the turtles underwater!💞
We keep it super simple: I used my iPhone X for most of my footage (I need a better wind-reducing microphone!) and for the underwater footage we got inexpensive Akaso V50 Pro action cameras on Amazon. They don't have great stabilization, but the hold up well and have a touch screen and you can see what you are filming. I'm tempted to get a better action camera (or rent one for cruising!) Thanks for asking and for your support!💕

Curaçao port is one of the windiest ports we have ever sailed into. Loved walking through the Fort on our way to go downtown.

Curacao was such a beautiful port. We did the sunset cruise. When we got back on ship to go eat in dining it was empty so they kept giving us extra, my favorite was the same shrimp you had in video. I think I gained 10 pds just eating all the shrimp they kept giving us.
I cannot wait to return to Curacao! I have heard such good things about the sunset cruise there! I bet it was magical!!
The shrimp was so yummy...in fact, most of the food was really great; I know what you mean about gaining that weight! When I am on a cruise, I feel like I actually get tired of eating so much, but I want to try it ALL, LOL! Even if they gave a sample plate of each entree it would be too much!
Oh, well - that's why looking forward to another cruise is so much fun - you get SO many choices! We are hooked!!

What month was this taken in? Not much Sun! Overall the time spent with your daughter was the best! My mother daughter trip will take place in Key West Florida this May! Im excited as my daughter lives in San Diego n I in Pensacola, so these once a year trips are special! My Horizon Cruise will be this October going to Aruba, Bonaire, La Ramano and Amber cove. Praying it doesn't get canceled due to the cronovirus. Wish me luck y'all 😉🤞🙏✌🏼
We really enjoyed our mother/daughter cruise. It takes me a long time to edit these videos so this is showing a cruise that was during October, which is the start of the rainy season there. The sun often broke through the clouds while we were out and about, and no day was filled with rain all day long. I sure hope your October Horizon cruise takes place! We are hoping for an April cruise, which might really be getting cancelled. Time will tell. Stay safe!💕

Thank you Peter! We decided to upgrade our iPhones rather than investing in camera equipment, so believe it or not, I did most of my filming for this video on my iPhone X. The underwater footage is with our Asako V50 Pro (it's like a reasonably priced go-Pro). It's not fancy, but these do okay for most of what I want to capture. Thank you so much for watching and I consider it such an honor to answer your question!

Thank you William! I can't wait to return to Curacao!! This excursion was our favorite of the entire trip. The bus ride was a bit long, but the guides made the time just FLY by with their informative and interesting talk and hands-on learning. I completely was BLOWN AWAY by swimming right up to the turtles! Seriously life changing experience! And then the next beach was the perfect spot to unwind and relax. The water is Curacao was so clear, just an amazing place! Thank you again for following along and for the kind comments!!🤗

I was so silly (kind of ignorant) to go out walking alone at night. I was under the impression that the Queen Emma bridge was really close by the cruise port (it's a bit of a walk!) and I thought the pathway would be well-lit (nope!) Next time we are there, I will have my hubby Anthony along, Lord willing!!

I never knew that flamingos eat the algae that grows in the salt flats! Amazing what you can learn from your own kid, LOL!
The walking alone in the dark was a mistake and I'm thankful that I got back safely to the ship. I think I was under the impression that the bridge was right close to the port, but it wasn't quite as close as I thought. Next time, I will have my hubby Anthony with me!

I also was under the impression it was closer. I’ve learned from your mistake (it was not in vain! Lol) and will make sure we do not go there late. I would like to watch the sun set on the colorful buildings, see the bridge lit up shortly after sunset then get back on the ship. That’s the plan anyway. Lol

We were in Curaçao a few weeks ago, wish we did this excursion instead we did some shopping and spent way to much money ! We did the Catamaran and snorkel excursion in Aruba which was fun ! Are you still filming with the Akaso v50 pro ?
LOL! We loved this excursion!! But shopping can be fun too - we do more "window shopping" than buying stuff, LOL! I can't wait to go back and cross that bridge with my hubby and walk around the town. The Catamaran snorkel in Aruba sounds GREAT - we did the...wait, I'll show you what we did in the next vlog, LOL! (cliffhangers...) Yes, we are still filming with the Akaso V50 Pro. I wish the stabilization was better but it's tricky when you are being swayed by the waves! All in all it's a very dependable little camera and you can't beat the price. If you don’t swim, I recommend you not to do this turtle snorkel unless you want to just go to the beach later; the beach we went to was very nice. Your cousins will definitely enjoy the turtle snorkel. Enjoy your cruise!!
