Brave thing to eat surströmming without condiments. Basically no one eats it like that. You need boiled potatoes, raw onion and tunnbröd (another swedish speciality) together with surströmming. It is so good that I get goosebumps whenever I get to eat it.
Brilliant! There's not really too much information on Örnsköldsvik, and that has given me a little insight :) . I'm going there in August to visit friends, looks like a wonderful place!
I moved to Sweden 30 years ago. The best thing about being vegetarian back then (at a time when it was still a little tricky, on the whole) was that I had a good excuse to avoid surströmming! But Övik is a delightful place, and well worth a visit. It's one of those little places with something for everyone. Well, almost everyone. You need to cross your fingers on the weather front, but that can be said about pretty much anywhere in Northern Europe. After all, who comes to Sweden for the weather?
Impressed that he ate the surströmming with nothing more. I am from Ö-vik and know both Ove Jonsson (my biology teacher) and Lars Söderlind (from an armwrestling event).

Örnsköldsvik full with nature
I lived there in the late 90's. I loved it! Made some great friends and even ate Red Wolf Surstromming. Very stinky!
