  • An effective way of helping someone in extreme poverty is to simply give them money. Not a loan, but cash without conditions. It enables families to buy what they need and have a consistent source of income, allowing them to invest in themselves and their children. Unlike giving, say, livestock or trainings, giving money recognizes that within a community, every person has different needs.
GiveDirectly and Canva partnered to send money directly to some of the world's poorest people. Their pilot, launched in March 2022 in Khongoni, Malawi, will deliver ~$50 per month for 12 months to 12,800 adults, giving them the funds to design their own destinies.
