  • Half a million refugees have fled insecurity in their home countries to try to build a new life in Kenya. Having left nearly everything behind, many struggle to restart without a big missing piece: money. GiveDirectly, with support from the IKEA Foundation, gave over a thousand refugee families in Nairobi $1,000 each to spend on what they need most, no strings attached. Many many refugees from Congo and Burundi live in my area. Their stories are so heart-wrenching. I am glad someone is aiding them adjust to their new environment.
