@@caseysmith544I think it's actually the #2 putter because the upshot has a much straighter blunt nose, I just looked at both of them side by side and I'm pretty confident this disc is actually the #2 putter based on the rim configuration.
The putter is a lightning discs #2 putter not the upshot, the upshot has a straight rim that doesn't flare outwards at all and it's slightly smaller. I literally just checked both my upshot and #2 putter and I'm 100% sure based on the side profiles in your video on the frame I have it on where you're holding it almost dead flat and based on both my discs that it's definitely the #2 putter, not the upshot. Many lightning discs were intentionally made to float on water, that's why they are so light weight. I used to bag a #2 putter for years, it's pretty sweet for a large disc, it's a big boy compared to your standard putter. Like I said though the upshot has a straight nose because of the purpose of it being for upshots so it goes straighter, similar to the Doomsday landmine and depth charge. Compare that disc to another #2 putter, I guarantee you that's what it is, or sell it to me so I can, seriously if you don't want it I'll buy or trade you for it. You should do a discs people traded me only round, I have some crazy discs in my inventory.
I just started playing Disc Golf, the house my wife and I bought is right off a local course and it just seemed like the right thing to do. I've been having a lot of fun and in my search for good disc golf vid content I found your channel. I'm on board! I'm about a month into my journey and so far my best disc is a Latitude 64 River. Love that thing. I've been trying anything my friends will let me throw just to see what I get along with and what I can throw well. Anyways, I really enjoy this particular genre you've created. One mans trash kinda feel lol. Have also been noticing you mention you're about to have a kid -- We are 3 days past our due date and seem to be dealing with a stubborn baby -- I wonder where it gets that from.... Cheers from Canada!
So cool! Thanks for watching, due dates are so tricky, ours is the 29th, but who knows if we'll have a July or August baby. Percentages point to August because it's our first! Hope you guys have a great delivery :)
I'm such a huge fan of unique discs and love every part of this series! I can't help but think about how this is a great chance to see some of these older (and mostly forgotten) discs, though they're beat in, and have them documented more!
@1:26 - That disc is a lightning discs either upshot or #2 putter, most likely the #2 putter, looks to be the right size and shape, it's a rather large putter but it's actually very good, i used to bag one for quite some time, I collect lightning discs and Quest AT and Ching and Discraft and so on, I love old discs!
The putter is The Upshot (not #2 Upshot, and not the Rubber Putter). Lightning made discs (in Dallas) from super lightweight to super heavy, to satisfy the developing markets in both the U.S. and Japan.
Thanks for the entertaining video! ABOUT MAX WEIGHT: There were comments about the Lightning discs you tried - The Upshot (not #2 Upshot), and the heavy driver. Some suggested that the factory second ("X-out") driver may have been heavier than allowed by PDGA. That' true if it was the #1 Flyer (Max Weight: 177.6g) -the only Lightning mold I know that has grooves on the top (visible when Jesse handles it at 1:53). However, there are quite a few large-diameter discs made by Lightning and other companies that have PDGA max weights well over 184 grams, some approaching the PDGA maximum allowed weight of 200 grams.
Love that red thin almost midrange one... massive hyzers that always flip up is the perfect disc for days when you feel down, put 30% power into a 70% hyzer and you are 100% satisfied ;D
I was sure that the lazy bogey on 18 was entirely so that you *just* finished under par, but still had an easy score to beat next time to add more discs to the pot. Glad to proven right in the final scene. 🤣
Might be a fun(for us viewers) punishment in this series is that if or when you lose the challenge you have to do a local tournament with a bag made up of the trash discs.
@1:55 - A strikeout is a defect disc not a mold name, lightning called their discs that didn't come out exactly right for general retail sales strikeouts much like innova factory seconds, Doomsday x-outs, etc. The mold honestly looks like a spitfire based on the shape and size, especially the rim configuration.
That heavy Lightning driver is the #1 Flyer (Max Weight: 177.6g). I have almost every mold Lightning made, and about 8 of them have somewhat similar profiles. However the #1 Flyer is only one with grooves on the top (visible when Jesse handles it at 1:53). Looks like it was a factory second because it was too heavy.
@@Morphowlits from a cheap generic starter set, looks like a zone, doesn’t fly like one at all. They’re all over amazon in those sets that come with a blank red, yellow, blue discs.
Hey ... a Lightning Strikeout ... nice. I have a few of them in my collection. Picked them up from G3T back in the day when G3T bought up the remaining inventory and were selling them for dirt cheap. I think they were $2.99/each. I grabbed a bunch of Lightning discs back then. I wish I had bought a couple of more of their Rubber Putters. Those were awesome and they floated. Unfortunately I watched mine float away on a fast moving stream.
YOU'RE IN LUCK! G3T (Gotta Go Gotta Throw) bought the Lightning brand and molds, and recently made new runs of both the Rubber Putter and the #2 Upshot (my favorite).
I would have 5 putted also because beating -5 with a box of random discs is gonna be hard af. I say that was a smart move on your part to keep the season alive past the second episode
i wonder if Jesse has started a little museum for discs sent in. ALso the putter gotta be some temu/china thing right? Also you do this as a competition i like Jesse but i think he would totally put a brick and 6 grooves in a box.

That ching disc looks like a pringle and should from now on be referred to as the chingle.

Throwing at the end to make the score easier to beat next time. Very smart
