    Milwaukee shaved a ton of length and some weight off of the new M12 Gen 2 hammer drill, while maintaining the same 350 in-lbs of torque and max RPM of 1,700. Even with identical specs on paper, the Gen 2 feels more powerful.

      If Home Depot lists them as separate SKUs on the receipt, then you can return one item and keep the other. They'll give you money back if you have your receipt, and will prorate the return to reflect the discount. So if the kit was $229 and you got a free $99 bare tool, they'll give you $69 back for the return of the bonus tool.

    Think this showing has pushed me towards starting an M12 setup. For me it was between the M12 Fuel drill and impact driver kit and Makita's subcompact 18v setup to get me started, but honestly within the Milwaukee M12 line, there are so many other tools that I would actually use that take the same batteries that aren't available in Makita's 18v LXT line and I don't think I really need 18v for what I do. There's a Dremel-style rotary tool (that works with Dremel accessories and outpowers any cordless Dremel), a freaking 12v soldering iron, a nice and compact oscillating multitool, a bunch of work lights and lamps, and one of my favorites being the 2nd gen of the USB power source which can now charge M12 batteries though USB as well as charge other devices like cell phones and power the M12 heated clothing. Milwaukee seems to understand that not everyone wants just miniaturized versions of larger 18v tools. There is some crossover where it makes sense like drills and drivers, the hakzall/sawzall, jigsaws and such, but I like that they have diversified their 12v line into its own thing to take advantage of how much smaller the batteries are and therefore the tools that run off of it can be. Can get a kit with the M12 Fuel non-hammer drill (I don't work with masonry) and impact driver, both look like the 2nd gen versions, with one 2ah compact battery, and one 4ah XC battery, bag, and charger for just north of $200 with employee discount at the hardware store I work at. Think I will pull the trigger on that soon.

      Clutch is indispensable for tapping, and for saving breaking your wrist with larger hole saws on a smaller drill that has no side handle. But it must be mechanical; the electronic clutch on this gen 2 is useless. It's a brake not a clutch ; not responsive enough to instantly divert torque ..

    Just bought this tool from the home dumpot. One bill, for tool, 2.0 battery, bag, and charger. It has eluded me for a whole year. It and the 3/8 stubby, the right angle die grinder, and maybe the cut-off tool. It drills 1/4” holes in masonry and cement before quick can even get ready. At this point it’s the last of my m12 tools on my wish list and the most satisfying other than the multitool, which I haven’t even used yet. I say that it doesn’t beat the multitool because I use my dewalt multitool all the time under sinks and on closet flanges at work, but I’m yet to use my m12 for my own sidework. But I already know it’s gonna kill it.

      Update: I just ordered the #2598-22 kit, plus a free tool (#2457-20, 3/8" ratchet) for $244 after tax.
      It all started when I saw the m12 fuel hammer drill kit that I've been wanting for $100... Great sales going on. Honestly, thats the only time I buy Milwaukee. If youre already on the platform like myself its a no brainer. A 2+4aH battery and charger normally costs $130.
      Now consider I paid $100 on top of that and got a tool bag (NBD), the M12 fuel hammer drill, fuel driver, and a 3/8" ratchet. All of which are about $130 EACH "tool only". C'mon Bruh... Itd be stupid not to buy it. I honestly only wanted the drill and batteries, but ill probably keep the driver and try to sell the ratchet and that annoying m12 charger. I already have two that I dont need.
      I have the M18 Fuel hammer drill/driver, however I've found that the drill is pretty cumbersome. I specifically chose them for the power, didnt consider the weight very seriously, "hey its only 4.8lbs"...
      M18 is great dont get me wrong, the main reason I got the drill was its ability to bore large forstners and hole saws. However! The other 99% of the time when im just drilling small holes, its mildly inconvenient lol.
      I also have to say with my intermittent use mainly drilling 1/4" or smaller holes, my 5aH battery lasts me literal weeks. No joke. If youre doing high demand stuff, yes you can drain it fast. If you arent giving it full send all the time it should last you plenty of time.
      I'm excited to get my hands on the m12, Im pretty sure im going to love it, and on the rare occasion I need to bore a bunch of holes ill pull out the m18. Kinda sad to leave it on the shelf but hey, it was cheaper than a drill press.

Awesome kit overall, very happy with it! Downsides are the size of the handle takes a while to get used to being a sleeved battery, it's much fatter and the ergonomics of the Makita is just so nice. Also, the Fuel 12v impact driver is much bigger than my Makita 18v impact driver, especially with an XC battery, how is that even compact lol. The battery charging time is also not on par with Makita. I'm not a fan of the ramp up period, I find that it slows down the work flow.

    Hello sir, great video can impact drivers work on concrete also?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  4 года назад +4

      No, a hammer drill like this one provides an axial impulse to chip away at concrete while it's drilling. An impact driver only provides a torsional impulse, which won't accomplish the same thing.

    @projet2907 4 года назад +2

    Thank you for this excellent video, I am getting this drill but I am new to impact and notice they work great, so, just to make sure, if I want the impact I would need a second drill model or this one does impact for screw work. (probably nerdy question sorry but I got my other drill stolen and lack time for research, thank you :-0). )

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  4 года назад

      Yes, if you want an impact driver the accompanying model to this drill is the 2553-20. This drill is a hammer drill, which means it has a mode that exerts an axial impulse to chip away at masonry or concrete when using a masonry bit. You can drive screws with it, but it doesn't work the same way as an impact driver. An impact driver exerts a torque impulse to assist in driving screws or lag bolts.

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  2 года назад

      The screwdriver has clutch settings to limit torque too. In my opinion, the screwdriver is almost completely redundant to the drill. The only situation I can see it being better at is if you're swapping bits a whole bunch, and only use hex shank drill bits. It would be faster than messing with the drill's chuck in that situation.
      If you're looking for something to complement the drill, I'd look at the M12 Surge. I use that and my 12V Bosch Flexiclick almost exclusively around the house for home improvement projects.

      You can get them on Amazon, they have quite a few threads, you'll need to know which threads your drill has. You can tell from the reviews what fits what. I think the 2704 drills use 1/2" but I cant remember.

    One thing about the gen 2 that I cant stand is the electric clutch. Who fully clamps down on the trigger when tightening a low torque fastener? Isnt the trigger variable speed anyway? When removing screws, I just like to squeeze at full speed to remove. The "start slow" is pretty annoying. When tightening, it slows down then stops when hitting the torque setting. Then if the torque setting is too low, you have to set it higher and start slow then end slow. I like the old mechanical clutch instead. Start fast and hit the torque and hear it click. Not enough, set it higher and spin it fast until the higher torque is reached. I hope gen 3 goes back to the mechanical clutch. The electric clutch actually slows down productivity.

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  2 года назад +1

      They went back to a mechanical clutch for the M12 Installation Driver, which came out after this one. So maybe they'll go with mechanical again for Gen 3.

      The 2404 is the Gen 1 M12 FUEL Hammer Drill, while the 2504 is the Gen 2 M12 FUEL Hammer Drill. Those are the two I compared in this video.
      The 2503 is the Gen 2 M12 FUEL Drill, which is just like the 2504 except it doesn't have a hammer function for drilling into masonry.

    • @DoresoomReviews

      I haven't used the Makita LXT subcompacts myself, so keep that in mind. The head of the M12 Gen 2 is bigger that that of the Makita subcompact, but they come out to just about the same overall weight due to the smaller 12V batteries. Performance specs are about the same too, although the M12 has 10% higher no load RPM. It mostly comes down to which platform you want to be on.

      How does the e clutch work compared to a gen 1 traditional clutch?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  6 лет назад

      They both perform fairly well. It seems like the electronic clutch on the Gen 2 has higher resolution at low torque ranges, and steps up nonlinearly in larger increments for the higher torque settings. I was using the Gen 1 and Gen 2 back to back for the same driving tasks, and with 3/4" #8 wood screws I had the Gen 1 on clutch setting 5 and the Gen 2 on clutch setting 11.

    can you do a video(or just respond to me) about the proper way to tighten a drill chuck? different professionals are literally saying different things online. some say tighten all the way till you hear a few tiny ratcheting sounds, but some say after you hear the ratcheting, loosen one full non-ratcheting click. umm what?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  5 лет назад +1

      I've heard some people back it off one click, but I don't. From the manual: "To close the chuck jaws, turn the sleeve in the clockwise direction. The bit is secure when the chuck makes a ratcheting sound and the sleeve
      can not be rotated any further."

    No, the delayed spin-up in lower clutch settings is maddeningly annoying, and everyone hates it. That's why they nixed it in the Gen3's; went back to mechanical clutch. Thank God. There is no greater admission of this misstep than Milwaukee trying it, and then trashing it. If you want slower speed, do what every human on the planet who has any experience with a drill does: control the trigger. That's what it's for. By forcing slow spin-up, you break that contract of control, and hand-tool-eye coordination. The connection between the user's brain and the workpiece gets messed up. Like watching a movie with the sound out of sync. And that delay adds up when you have real work to do. Don't get me wrong, Milwaukee's drills are great. I have one, but it's a gen3 - not the gen2. They dropped the ball on the gen2. To say that the delay is a "great feature", is either fraudulent (which reviewers tend to do when they get free stuff), or just plain ignorant.

    Why do they even bother to make the 2aH batteries....?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  5 лет назад

      Lots of people like the compact form factor of the 2Ah batteries, myself included. I suspect they haven't phased them out for the compact 3Ah because it's cheaper to include the 2Ah in kits, and it gives people an incentive to buy the latest and greatest 3Ah separately.
