WE are SO SORRY for the bad behavior of a few Americans -- there were so many of us who hated that and did NOT feel (nor act) the same way.
(WAR IS HELL like Gen. Sherman said, but there are times when we must help our allies fight to keep our own America free and allow us to think freely and express what we wish without threat of harm. That is our America -- let's keep it that way!)
It does not matter what the reason for war is or was, where it was or is even now, our brave young men (including women, today) fight for the freedom of our (YOURS AND MY) Country, laid down their lives for us and our Country, are still doing that, and NOTHING can ever minimize that! Yes many soldiers did horrid things during Vietnam, and many of them contrary to popular belief were severely punished for it.Also American soldiers got blamed for a lot of things that they weren't responsible for either, like that fire bombing picture with the little girl running away. Yeah that was the SK but America got blamed for it. My grandfather told me stories of his service ( he didn't like too but I always got him drunk first.) We tried to teach them how to have democracy and it split up the Suni and Shite Muslims. So in short, Isis existence is Americas fault. we always step in trying to teach proper government and something fucks up.

*** Sgt WarDaddy98 *** But I believe that's more down to the US' failure to moderate things after the war, they left the country while the supporters of the fallen governments' supporters took control of the country.
I think the US are right in trying to give everyone human rights and democracy no matter where they're born, they just need to dedicate resources for a longer period of time than the war, perhaps a small occupation to ensure the country transitions smoothly.

I am the son of a Vietnam veteran Marine. He served in the 1/5 in 1968 and 1969. I've nearly come to blows defending him and his service against those who don't understand. He was only 19 when he went to Vietnam, and he saw and was caught in the middle of some horrible, terrifying situations. But I have always been and always will be proud of him. Seeing him earlier in summer of 2016 nearly in tears when we went to see the Moving Wall when it came to town spoke volumes. All Vietnam veterans should be honored and remembered. God bless them.

My father would take me to the VA in Memphis, TN with him when I was a kid and I would sit for hours and listen to stories about Korea and Vietnam from all kinds of veterans that were there for all kinds of reasons. Many of the stories were nightmare fuel because my father told them to be honest, not to sugar coat it and they didn't, but I knew after meeting and talking to those people that I had to become one of them and when I graduated from Marine Corps boot camp in the beginning of 2002 my father recorded the ceremony and took it back to the VA to show it off.

I don't blame the normal German soldiers of WWII. What did they know better? They grew up in that country and grew up through the rise of the Nazi party, they didn't know the true evil that was going on. The sick bastards were really the SS officers, the Nazi leaders, and those alike. Those regular German soldiers just wanted to follow orders and feel proud for serving their country, not get grouped with the rest of the filth of the Nazi party.

Sk8mattGaming Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

Because it would Escalate the war into a Bigger War and Eventually something Unprecedented.

I was a kid back then, in the mid - late 60's,,,,,,,,we lived on Clark, dad was 902nd out of Clark,,,,we would wait for him at flight line and see the boys-men come in,,waliking, being carried, some flights had boxes,,and i remember seeing the wounded in the hospital halls at Clark AFB,,,,,,some smiled, some cried and some just looked into nowhere,,,,that conflict alone caused many many to suffer,,some scars you can see and others you can't,,,,,,some took their own lives, others lived out their lives and would never speak of southeast asia,,,,,,,many took their nightmares that tormented them to the grave and many still live with the whole issue everyday,,,,,,,,so in a way it was good that they got a coming home finally,,,,,,,some would appreciate it and some would probably blow it off as an after thought,,,,,it still doesn't make it right how they were treated ,,,,,,,,,,you can't pull a splinter out 40 years later and expect the infection to just go away.............they did what no-one else wanted to do,,,,,,,when others were dodging their chance the vets stood up,,,,i am grateful to all the vets for their service, but, i still ask myself one question,,,,,,,how do you tell those that can't hear "welcome home, job well done"
