I feel like this song conveys perfectly what love is about. "Even if we won't be together, I want you to be happy."

This may not be as explicitly gay, but the nature of her feelings are fully acknowledged elsewhere. Light even calls her “the Shinigami who was in love with Misa.”

I noticed, she has a line 'this body will turn to sand' here, and in Pathetic HUmans(Japanese version of they're only human) there's a line 'The sand that falls through their fingers, they desperately scoop it up'
IDK just thought it was clever

Even more so, at the end of show during the requiem Misa slowly drops a handful of sand from the upper balcony, which likely represents Rem as well

I can literally feel her burning pain of her love here in this song for Misa. It's the kind of longing pain love vibe that I do feel is romantic. If you have ever been in love when it is not returned you would feel it exactly. Can it be motherly? Yes, it can be, too. But considering, she is not actually her mother or even a stand in mother who has raised and looked after her, I tend to think her feelings are a different kind of love than just mother caring for her child. There's highly more of a burning longing. She uses 'child' in my opinion because she's an ageless immortal being and Misa is a but a child to her in years. I don't think she's seeing her as 'her' child. And this has nothing to do with purposeful representation or some 'cause'. I just think she is honestly in love with her.

Truly!! God I was NOT expecting to go into the Death Note musical expecting this epic love story from Rem of finding love and crying but here we are 😭😭 especially with how dark Death Note truly is, this ode to love was truly like a light in the darkness. It was utterly beautiful 😭😭

While I know some people are disappointed it's not as gay, I actually like how they explore all the different kinds of love this way. With Jealous, they got to explore romantic, but with Rem, a maternal or sisterly love, which is equally meaningful and moving. So I kind of like that. That's just my opinion though.

@@MariaVasquez-vb5um Don't you dare call us idiots! We have the same right as anyone to be represented, politics be fucking damned! Plus, Rem is a queen in her own right, be she a mother or a lover! Her love for Misa is evident and I personally act in a very motherly fashion towards everyone, my lovers included, which have all turned out to be female. Not seeing your loved one have to suffer from a mistake they made while yearning for them to accept your feelings back is perfectly reasonable. There's no reason to call anybody an idiot here, is that clear??

I really like the more straight tone and less raspy choices here for Rem. It gives a more ethereal quality that they really talked a lot about when directing the English dub. It captures more of the ageless immortal idea than the very trendy (and well executed) slightly raspy, singer/songwriter vibe they went with on the concept album. The choices here are very nicely character-driven and the lyric differences really hone in on completing more of the dualistic/slightly-spectrumy analysis going on through the characters. A+

I love how the Japanese version more represents motherly love, while the English version seems to represent romantic love more. It’s really cool how Rem’s love for Misa can be interpreted and represented in different ways
