I bought this guitar 3 weeks ago and after I got it back from my guitar tech who did my usual setup, I haven't put it down yet! It is simply phenomenal! Phenomenal!!! Epiphone has really upped their game on this one! I have been a Gibson purist my whole life so I was really reticent on purchasing this guitar because I have never owned a Firebird and have been a Gibson Les Paul and SG player for over 50 years (I own 6 going all the back to 1971). So, I decided to take a chance on this, (since I love Johnny Winter and the price was right) and when I got it, it was pure magic. The pickups are incredible. Articulate, throaty, spanky and full of sinew, especially when when using both with the neck pickup volume rolled bach to about 7. On the bridge pickup I roll the tone down to 4-5 and it equals any of my Les Pauls, especially my Deluxe that has P90's. And the neck pickup has such warmth and clarity that I am a loss for words! All I can say is OMG! Heavenly tone while playing at home at the moment using only my Blackstar HT1 1 watt head and a Xotic EP Booster into a Marshall 1x12 cab with a Celestion Heritage G12M 20W speaker. No other effects what-so-ever. I can't wait to play it live through my Marshall Super Lead 1959HW with a 4x12. It's THAT GOOD! This video does not do it justice. I bought the limited run of the Olive Drab Green color which is simply beautiful.💥
Great to hear an opinion from a self proclaimed Gibson purist! I play a Gibson SG and I was worried about getting an Epiphone (even for a good price) and it feeling like I was losing some quality. I bought my Firebird the other day and from a build quality perspective it feels great!! The out of the box set up was a bit iffy but like with all new guitars, I've taken it to my tech to set up - I'm really hoping I get it back feeling great. I'm having some of the neck lacquer removed so it has more a satin finish like most of my other guitars too. FIngers crossed I love it as much as you do. I wonder if being an SG player has anything to do with loving the Firebird. They feel like they're from the same planet.
If you have a chance to buy Epiphone just buy it. I have my own LP Standard since 2007 and although I have now more expensive guitars, Epi sounds really, really great. Of course it all depends on your skills, amp, effects etc, however every guitarist I played with or played on my LP said it sounded like Gibson. Very special guitar for me.
I just bought this model in the vintage finish. Epiphone has really stepped its game in the past two years. The overall craftsmanship is outstanding, neck-through-body construction for sustain, Grover tuners, Graph Tech TUSQ Nut, Gibson's TOM bridge, plays great and has some seriously hot pickups. An incredible buy at only $600!

Shame it’s not got the OBL Firebird pickups from the Epiphone Firebird III from the 90s - but these Epiphone probucker Firebird pickups have alnico 2 magnets. I wonder if they’re 6.2k DCR and are twin rail mini humbucker rather than Firebird pickups under the covers just like the earlier Gibson 70s tribute Firebirds
1:21 unfortunately this common myth is still being repeated... resonance and sustain are not 'enhanced' in any measurable sense by a neck which runs through the guitar as compared to a neck which is bolted on halfway. this is an old theory but it has been tested using contemporary acoustic recording technology. if anything, the results clearly indicate that sustain and resonance may actually be *improved* or 'better' with bolt-on necks, whereas the run-through necks produced a lightly 'flatter' tone overall... also it's much easier to modify and perform maintenance with bolt-on necks considering how efficiently they can be swapped in and out... THAT BEING SAID this is a beautiful guitar and it's awesome that Epiphone is offering a Firebird to the world which doesn't break the bank
It does however, make the guitar sound completely unique and organic. The bridge, the nut, the pickups, everything that makes the guitar sound the way it does, resides in a continuous (laminated) piece of wood. I have this one, and an original 65 non reverse FB. They have a completely unique sound. They will spontaneously produce upper midrange harmonics that no other guitar I’m aware of can emulate. Sustain is related to the nut, the bridge, and the setup as well. I have a strat and a tele I assembled myself, and with the right hardware they’re amazing instruments as well. I love them all. An electric guitar is just the most amazing thing. Cheers.
