Fitting a Harness

Ralph Rice of Riceland Meadows demonstrates how he fits a harness to a young Suffolk Punch horse. He explains collar fitting and what kind of collar pad he prefers. He discusses ensuring the traces or tugs achieve the correct line of draft from the hames to the evener, and what the various parts of the harness are used for.

She took that collar really well - even with the added pad. For a young horse that worked out really well. You watch her eyes and ears - she did great! I enjoy learning from this guy, his horses, his farm. You can see her mind working while she is learning the bit.

I enjoy your videos but can't say that for this video. Not a fan of Ralph's way of fitting harnesses. Might just be me but seeing others fit harnesses for drafts he leaves a lot to be desired. Plus for doing a video for you I would think he would have wanted to have everything cleaned and nicer looking.
