    The dilemma of testing!!!. i met up with some friend's in socal monday and did test after test with the equinox, moded excals and out of the blue a ctx joined the fun. it was done on some of the nastiest sand and section of this particular beach known to test the patience of the masters. did the GOLD chain, silver coins, gold rings, even some gold nuggets. ill try to edit and share the results ASAP. every test , be it air or burried is of vital importance to all of us and i thank you for this and previous episode's. keep em comming and im loving the EQUINOX. BS Y FP

    Nothing wrong with the AT Pro, but even though the distance was about the same, the 800 still gave you a VDI reading of -1, whereas you got sound only with the AT, no visual indication. Just an observation.

    I used the AT Pro on a plantation in kennesaw Ga. My good iron relics run around 22-23 especially for the 1800's hammer hatchets and small old tools. A CTX 3030 went over a spot and the swinger decided not to dig it. My Pro went over and i knew almost what i had at 8-9" down; hammer hatchet found in a small fire pit where confederates were camping . Just got to understand what the detector is trying to tell ya, and know the signals. Presently i use the Max with the Nel storm coil and very satisfied

    I am impressed about how the Equinox identified it correctly as ferrous target. There are so many detectors that will not do just that.

    • @Gigmaster
      @Gigmaster  6 лет назад

      I agree but the Equinox has given me good signals on big iron (plow blades, etc) in the field many times.

    • @Kizmox
      @Kizmox 6 лет назад

      As far as i understood that is because some of the iron has dissolved to the surrounding ground. Sometimes even small items like square nails from 1700-1800s give really sweet signal.

    Great comparison. I use the AT Pro, and for how deep it can detect, it is just fine by me, I do not wish to dig any further then it can detect, otherwise id spend the whole night with a shovel in my hand. The best Detector is the one that gets used most often, regardless of the make. Of course detectors will be made that can always go further down, all the power to them, do I need it ? Nope. I don't plan on digging a hole 2 feet deep to find a bottle cap lol.

    • @scottm5167
      @scottm5167 4 года назад +2

      Exactly. I don't care if it can find a deeper target either, especially since a lot of the ground I dig is pretty hard. Will give up if the target was too deep. Not spending the whole hunt on a couple targets.

    • @ModestCasanovaa
      @ModestCasanovaa 2 года назад

      @@scottm5167 I concur. Plus depending on the area, like a park or a permission, it's hard to want to dig a huge hole. More disruption to the land owner or area.

    I'm thinking about identification of beer cups. They often are identified by metal detectors as good targets. In different movie Equinox targets it as 12. In other metal detectors if iron is more muted you can hear that the tone of that beer cup is not clear but has an slight iron tone on the start and end of the movement and when the target is at the front tip or back of the coil. Could You please check if it is also a point in equinox with iron unmuted.?

    A Excaliber goes for 1500.00 or so , a CTX 3030 goes for 2500 but a 800 or 600 are 800.00 or 600 .00 ok then which is the better detector ? anything 6 inches or so will be picked up by most detectors

    I guess the question is if you had $1200.00CAD what do you go with AT MAX wireless headsets with a free pointer and extra DD coil and save a few$$ or the Equinox 800 with multiple frequencies. I am at this exact cross road. Planning to buy the 15th of next month and still undecided.

    checking unknown random signals side to side with 3 detectors or more would be a far more better test.
    fresh buried coins or items , or airtests aren't very accurare .
    i have an old explorer and it is bad at airtests or fresh ploughed fields..
    but in pressed , damped , or wet salt sand it is deeper then i like to scoop sometimes .
    don,t ger me wrong , it is a nice video and you for sure put a lot of time in it.
    so thanks for sharing anyway Mr

      Detectors have about reached their limits of how deep they will detect with the current frequency technology. That is why they both hit the cannonball at about the same depth. This is no big surprise. Considering this was an AIR test, what is missing from this type of testing is the ground. Ground mineralization and trash is what separates detectors. How well a detector can separate ground/target/trash is were you will see the differences in depth, unmasking abilities and ID accuracy. The processing speed and recovery speed come into play especially in trashy ground.

    • @inventor1v

      The AT Pro price is $350 less because its been around for 8 years and the Equinox new to the market. The AT Pro is old tech, heavy and no match for the Equinox in real life tests.
      Even a Garrett 150 will find cannonballs at depth!

  • @alanaspopo1955
    @alanaspopo1955 6 лет назад +6

    Gigmaster what you trying to prove now? Yes they both can find a cannonball or iron relic. How about upping the game and testing for a silver dollar and a gold ring. I think you know the answer. How about a silver dime. I don't hunt cannonballs, but I do hunt coins and rings and tokens. I think the Minelab will beat the AT Pro on the gold, especially if you were hunting a fine gold necklace or thin and small gold ring. That being said the AT Pro would probably equal the Minelab on silver. The multiple and higher frequencies of the Minelab will allow it to beat the AT Pro every time on the fine gold. Why not make it a little more fair and use an AT Max. Still I bet the multi-frequency Minelab would beat it out on the gold, especially the 800. Which one to buy? The Minelab and that's coming from an AT Pro owner. I love my AT Pro, but It's time to switch! If I somehow get a reading on a cannonball I will dig it too! 😉😊

    Hi! Great video, thank you for this test! But let me tell you something - it is wise to make a Ground Balancing on air (on AT PRO, at least), to make a correct ground balancing on air you will need to GB on ferrite or simple CD disc! Once you've done it - you will have a better results on air, than without balancing. Same applies to ground - when you bury objects very deep than you can get a signal only with correct GB lvl. Hope it will help! Greetings from Estonia.

  • @Snarkapotamus
    @Snarkapotamus 6 лет назад +1

    No offense, but that test is meaningless. Relics, coins et al aren't floating above the ground. A better test would be to take both detectors out and compare them signal-by-signal for specific targets in the same soil or water. And don't just go bury something in the yard. Do it under real world conditions in the field.

      The AT Pro produces a lot of chatter on a saltwater beach. You have to adjust discrimination and ground balance to get it to even work and results would not be fair.

    Cool video mate !.....Fresh air tests are almost irrelevant, as they don't include ground minerals and natural interference/earth.
    AND, by no means are you operating these machines at their fullest capabilities either.. Sensitivities/gain etc. Try operating either just in pinpoint mode, you will go deeper again. Targets respond way different underground with their natural corrosion's and oxides etc. In other words, you should never decide on a machine based off fresh air testing..

    I'm sorry, but this cannot even be taken seriously. Back when the AT Pro was the only affordable water machine to common people more was made of it than there is to make. The AT Pro is not a serious performance machine and putting it up against serious machines only betrays either a lack of experience with having options or a steaming pile of wishful thinking. At this point, even in the all terrain market, the AT Pro sits dead last. Yet there's still no shortage of people trying to prop this and the slightly better AT Max up with anecdotes of the occasional rare find even an Ace will stumble into now and again, or wild tales of a 12" quarter, as well as my favorite...that it's good in iron. That's a knee slapper there. They are terrible in iron once you realize what good in iron is (F75, Tek Patriot, G2+, MX Sport, Deus. And yes, the Equinox). The AT Pro is a fun machine to use when you just want to take it easy and fall down drunk in the local watering hole.
