He has literally played with Shanmughapriya taking it straight to the divine almighty’s heart. If this would not have melted His heart I wonder what else would? Simply soulful.
What a superb demonstration of a spontaneous RTP! And, a beautiful alapana which one could see descend from the skies on to the person of the singer! A great aural and visual treat. And, his involvement with the violinist as the latter does his solo is so right for the young violinist. Balamurali, the great, you are still in our midst with such beautiful video captures. Thank u very much for this post Murthygaru!
Lots to be learned from Sri.BMK blessing for the next generation to simply follow and perform which itself an absolute scale in achieving once again thanks for sharing this concert.
Dear Rathinavelu sir, he was born in sankaraguptam in konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh. He's a child progidy. He and SPB proved that music has no limitations of region. Both got accolades and awards from Tamilnadu.Regards
This is an old RTP sung and ofcourse created by BMK in a 45 rpm extended play (EP) record accompanied by Lalgudi and TVG released in 1962 or 63 in THODI raga. BMK has just changed the raga and sang in this recording. BMK is very famous for executing such changes in ragas for example the same thillana in different ragas like Mohana, Hindolam, Poorvikalyani etc.
Sir, Thanks for your comments and observations. We have similar examples from him using the same line of sāhityam and creating several RTPs in different rāgās. If you would like to listen the Tódi RTP, here is a 1962 version from a live concert. ruclips.net/video/6wOih1iJcLI/видео.html
What a rare gem of a concert clipping sir the raga is 18 minutes of pure bliss, the ease and effortless rendition of difficult sanchaaras with a smiling face is seen to believed, The way he enjoys and encourages and guides the accompanying artists shows his attachment to music, and musicians. Thanks Sreenivaasamurthy sir for this eternal virtual class on behalf all the students and music followers.
Excellent sir. As I already stated, Sri.BMK Jewells, you are posting, makes even ordinary listeners like me to enjoy the carnatic music in a routine way. Even , your postings made me to search the old recordings of other stalwarts to listen and enjoy the music. The last observation he made was a challenge thrown to audience with a strong conviction was superb.
Mr. Suresh join our WhatsApp group called Music Listening Group to listen to great Indian classical music and ragam based film songs too. I am Sasthamani from Coimbatore. My number is 9727746266. 66 years. Retd.
Sri. D V Mohana Krishna explained to me about the tālam as follows. The RTP is rendered in Trishra jāti Jhampe tālam. The off-set (Ettugada / Edupu) for the take-off of pallavi is after the 2 akshrās from the start of the tala cycle. And the pada-garbam / arudhi (end of the purvāngam, the first half of the pallavi ending at the strike of the beginning of the second half of the tālam cycle) is 4 counts.
