This song always made me feel like I was in the rain. We had to use our imaginations back then no videos.

That's why I dislike music videos. As a child from the 1950s, each song became your song and the feeling along with it. Once you've seen a song on video that imagine is now someone else's interpretation.

Yes, I remember this from my childhood. I thought he was so smooth, back then. It just gets better with time.

Great Reaction. You've also gotta check out 'Baby (You've Got What It Takes)'and 'A Rockin' Good Way, his excellent duets with the great Dinah Washington.

This came out while I was serving in the Navy (1967). But out at sea there was no radio or TV. I'm sure I didn't hear this until late that year when we were back in port. Great voice. Great song. Thanks!

Thanks, mister. I haven't heard this in decades..AM radio played all sorts of music in those days, you could hear Hendrix, Brook Benton, and Hank Williams all in a row...

You just cracked me up! you are just adorable! I think if you thought about it for a little while you remember who Ben Franklin was, he’s the guy that is on the $100 dollar bill, he helped drafted up the constitution & experimented with electricity. So he was named after him.

Brook Benton had a nice recording hit with "Rainy Night in Georgia" in 1970, while young Elvis Presley had a big hit covering a song called "Hound Dog" in 1956.

You might like to check out "Rockin' Good Way", by Brook Benton and Dinah Washington. Dinah was one of the great singers from the 50s and 60s.

Back story is she really did not want to record with them since she considered herself more of a jazz singer. Brook stepped over many of her lines and that playful banter was not so playful. They got a great song out of it, so I am not complaining!

He’s one of my favorite male vocalists of all time. So smooth. Funny story: my grandparents went to see him live, and Brook started singing directly to my grandmother. My grandfather said he grabbed him by the collar and roughed him up a little. 😂

I like that you do a little research before you listen as it gives you a bit of background on the artist … always think that’s a good idea… so many reactors don’t do this … absolutely love rainy night in Georgia

This song was written by Tony Joe White and released in 1967. I like his original version also. You might want to react to it as well.

Love Brook Benton but he’s more of a pop crooner than a rocker although he has some very fine uptempo songs. “A Rockin’ Good Time” with Dinah Washington is a good example. Brook’s voice contains that dark warm rum sauce that is so rare. I listen to him all the time. “It’s Just A Matter of Time” is another lovely song from him.
Want some fabulous black crooning from the 40’s and 50’s? (Other than the amazing Nat King Cole?), check out Billy Eckstine. “My Foolish Heart” was my mom’s favorite swoon from him. I love “I Apologize” as well, but naming just two is really absurd. Some of my favorite collaborations are his duets with the incomparable Sarah Vaughn. “Now It Can Be Told” is exceptional and will expose you to two of the greatest voices of the 20th century.
