Is it darkness? Is it heights? Is it clowns? Most people have to deal with their fears and we look at how fear has changed over the years for a select group of athletes.
I share the same fear of water critters esp in murky water, freaks me out. Now after a car accident and an unfinished recovery the other fear is to get hit and injured again - and it teanscends into other things I do. Fear is the enemy.
Jay - have to disagree - I think your judging. Our job is as much a business as yours - and both are important to society...it's not luck - it's hard work and dedication just like everyone else. No ruse. No humble overtones. It's a lot more than just swim, bike, run.
Why do pros think they need to give the impression we should feel somewhat sorry for them and their efforts. It's swimming, biking and running and, as with most sports, probably one of the most pointless jobs on earth. Something that most of us age groupers do alongside a full time job that, for many, means a whole lot more to society. Maybe it's a ruse to hide just how lucky they are. We're onto you! Fear, shmear! Stop the humble overtones, the welling orchestral music and grow some balls! :)
Usually not into these cheesy type videos, but this ali'i series is pretty good
Best thing Ironman has done to date are these videos. Really cool!
Love it ! Keep em coming folks
3:56 Every time you train and prepare for an Ironman, you're placing a bet on yourself

Ali'i is what we refer to as a Chief of Hawaii... And Ali'i drive is where the race ends!
I don't know who Ali'i is but he sure must have a lot of drive.
Sickness and death , this is what scare the shit out of me , not to me , but to my loved one. The rest is literature :)

Ironman
First of all, WHAT FEAR?
Secondly, Fear is a figment of your own imagination.
Thirdly, Fear is the thief of all dreams.
