- I used to ALWAYS have problems with my spray paint cans clogging but over time I learned some great ways, which I share with you in this video, to keep my cans unclogged!
These tips work for female and male valved spray cans!

RE Shaking:Electric hand sander, small trash container. Put the sander, sanding side up, in the trash container, I put the paint can in a round oatmeal box with marbles on the bottom. Turn the sander on and put the paint in the oatmeal box on top of the sander and let it go. I start with the paint can upside down, but change it around. I needed to add a spacer to the side of the oatmeal box to keep the box and paint can upright. I can go about my other work while the sander does the shaking. I still hand shake the paint can some just to mix it up... like wiping down the side of the bowl of my mixer. Love your ideas. I learned some new things. Thank you.
If you have a sander that's a great idea! I wonder if there is a way to have a couple cans tied together so it can shake twice as many cans? Would take some figuring but just a thought
@@ScizGraffiti If I used paint the way you do, I would buy a couple or more sanders. Cheap ones are about $15. I happened to have had one that wouldn't hold the paper any more, but the motor worked. In your case, you could use it for two cans. I would make a small platform to set the cans on. You could velcro the cans together and I think it would work. I like to use the marbles because it keeps the can going in a circle. Also, there is probably a professional shaker that might be better for you. For me, this works well. I checked out your art on instagram. Very talented. I often see your kind of art in places that leaves me wondering, "how did they get up there???" do you have that video for unclogging spray can ? i have a weird situation, I have dope spray can and it has like 50% paint but no matter what caps i use event the astro fat, it just clogs the cap, maybe something happened to the paint and it too thick ?

😮Thanks for your video. It helped me with a Rustoleum Fluorescent green paint. It constantly clogged within 15 sec. I used one of your tips of heating the can first. I used a bath of 105 degree water instead of the sun. It didn't fully solve my problem but gave me a minute of spray time. Obtw I bought a second can of the same thing and it had the same clogging problem.

hoping your tips magically work on my can since i never had this issue, back in the day i would empty half a can every artwork with graffiti, now i have the same black spray for 3 years and I only keep it for paintings so i should learn how to preserve them properly
Lately, turning the can upside down and spraying till it stops, doesn't seem to work anymore. The can keeps spraying even upside down.

That's because they invented the "any angle spray-with comfort tip" if you have an 'any angle' spray can they recommend just wiping the tip before storing and if it clogs to soak it in mineral spirits
That means that you still have too much paint in it, so you don't need to spray upside down ywt
i've never once, in over 10yrs of trying, gotten a spray can to stop spraying paint by turning it upside down. it just goes and goes and goes and never stops.
The newer cans don't say turn it over and spray after use.
ironlak clogged on me so often, ive even had full cans just refuse to work with any cap, im glad no one sells it here in the UK anymore..
Molotow without a doubt is the best for no clogging.. ive only ever had 1 can block on me but it was the black tar coversall so i cant moan too much, that stuff is sticky!

Haha yup, the high pressure cans are never a problem :) And the faster you use em, the less unclogging there is to do!

Great tip using a needle I used WD-40 to soak it then used a needle to unclog the nozzle the spray part the needle was small enough to fit.
Yeah that's a great idea! Soaking them never seems to fail!
Really only had problems with ironlak clogging its stupid thick i found they sell lak at hobby lobby in my small town so who knkws how long the cans have sat when i bought em there was dust on the lids so they sat a while id say but i foubd if you use a calligraphy cap without the fan tip and hold the can upside down works wonders you loose a bit of pressure but it'll save your cans too
Stab can piece. With the leftover clogs. Also, don’t shake your cans in the yard. Pre shake at home or in the whip

Yeah I contacted bombingscience and they actually told me that they dont have any plans to restock on ironlak. ☹ I've been buying ironlak from them for a decade! Now what am I supposed to do!

Really it's not worth the time & potential mess to deal with clogged rattle cans. I prefer to destroy them & keep the marble. By another can for 3, maybe 5 bucks. But these tips still help in a positive way to help (not guarantee) keep them from clogging up. Thank you sir.

I walk by my can stash and shake a few in rotation. Every two weeks. Just to keep it flowing.
Definitely a good habit. Something I end up doing is swirling cand around while I'm on phone calls lol. Something to try maybe :)
Same. I shake all my paint every day, even mop and marker paint. I've made it a habit but it works
I have hundreds of cans of not your department store spray paint.I don't know that I trust storing them upside down,all the other tips are great thgh🤘

Bro go to harbor freight When I stated using them they were 80 dollars but now there 130 get there air paint shaker there for I gallon cans but the hold the spry can perfect keep cap on Titin down keep your eye on it like you side warm can always better and shake the shit out of it
I spray WD-40 through my caps to clean them out and to keep clogs from happening in the future.
yeah, very smart. I'm not sure is wd40 is acetone based but definitely the same effect
Please help. My new, fresh pink dot fat cap leaks paint. It sprays normally, but paint is going all over my can😢😢😢
If it leaks from the bottom it could just be that the valve of the can is sorta messed up or the cap itself isn't well made. Every now and again you'll get a cap that isn't 100%

I'm sorry I haven't made it yet. I sort of decided to wait on that one simply because this video was being recommended so much to viewers that were coming from videos on declogging cans. So I would be surprised if you can't find a good one

I thought the goop was a manufactured membrane to keep paint from getting in the valve helping it last longer
this is why i avoid ironlak like a plague, i swear i’m cursed. i do like the paint but i’ve literally taken ironlaks to a spot threw a cap on and it clogged almost instantly, multiple cans multiple times. i’ll stick to beltons i treat them like shit and never take care of them and never had an issue
Yeah molotows thin paint makes it so hard for them to clog, especially coupled with their awesome valves. I love their cand too but I'm never willing to pay more for em haha
Huh so that's what that goopy crap was, I'm just starting out with graffiti/street art and some of my cans had that happen a bit and it was annoying af at least I know how to properly get ready to spray paint.

yup, you can never shake your cans too much as a general rule I have haha
I turned a can of 3m upside down and it kept spraying and spraying out glue. Didn’t work for me.

I couldn’t get mine to spray at all. Apparently there is a ring underneath the cap that you have to remove. So there are six ways:)

For me, if I leave them in my car boot or forget to move them out of the sun and into the shade while painting, the cans literally explode from the built up pressure caused by the heat.
In the car boot, it just happens faster.
How do I know.
My car boot was a rainbow of the original ironlak formula
yeah that's too bad :( I don't know how hot it gets here but it's only around 30 degrees here on a summer day. I've never had problems with them exploding like that. Haven't heard of any problems like that either so maybe not hot enough here. I never leave paint in the truck though either

When I was painting in Holland I had to leave the cans in the car with the heater on but here in australia we end up putting them in the esky full of ice and beers to cool them down due to the built up pressure and the fact you will burn your hands if you touch the can when they are hot from the summer sun 🤣
Befor they explode, the bottom of the can pops outwards so instead of being an arch going inside the can, it becomes a bubble coming out of the can.
After that, where the can fails seems to be different with each can.
Some were at the bottom where the sides joins the bottom, some were the top, and some blew holes out of the side of the can.
@@ScizGraffiti yer, summer here can be in the 40s (celcius) and inside the car after its been sitting there for half hour can be well over 10-20 degrees hotter :(

Its the only brand I use after what they did for me back a decade ago , but every store in my state stopped stocking them recently to stock flame instead :(
turning can upside down and spraying until it stops, does not work. i also store them unside down. I have 30+ cans that do not work and 0 that do. Please give us something that works. Shake the can? That is something that we don't already know?
I've been storing my cans like that for over 15 years and Mine don't clog. Also you're the only person I've heard that has trouble using that method so I have a feeling it's something else related to how you're storing yours. Could be a temperature or pressure thing? or maybe letting them sit too long in general idk. but it's definitely not a problem with the storing upside down and emptying the valve before storage. I can say that definitively
You are insulting and illogical. Your lack of observing my experience and that of many others does not invalidate them or prove them false. You are not ignorant. A comment of "you are the only person ..." is worthless. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard that I would be rich and it would disprove the assertion. There are many complaints about videos like this not addressing the issue therefore many share my same experience. In other words, you are willing to look at selective facts and data but not all of facts and data. This video method often does not work. There are many videos that agree and do a much better job of addressing the various causes of clogs in stored paint cans and offer solutions. They are easily reference-able and very good. Perhaps the time you spend insulting others is better used to become more informed. Or perhaps you might ask why you are unable to respect another person. Quoting you "I have a feeling there is something else......". In fact, the person right below this post agrees and with 40 upvotes and that is just one other data point of many. Anyone know how to unclog these cans? Would an air compressor work like a shaft/ straw line can??
I usually shake them plenty and then try to stick a nail into the valve and hold it down until all of the gunk clears the valve and it starts spraying again. It may do nothing for a couple of seconds but unless it's really clogged, the pressure will start to work after a little bit and it will succumb to the pressure. That works for me usually but on occasion it does damage the valve and you are left with some odd spray outputs afterwards. Not usually though

The gas will continue to come out but the paint will stop. So after the valve is clear you're good to stop. If you keep going you're depressurizing the can
