Whenever I have a layover four hours or more in Frankfurt, I immediately take a train to Mainz and enjoy this unique, beautiful, and historical Medieval city. It is one of my favorite gems of Germany and one of my favorite cathedrals!

Lived there or 3 years when I was military. The answer is "YES!" There is history there, Frankfurt close by, castles down the river, and the city itself was wonderful when I lived there.

Funny you should mention Frankfurt, as it is our latest episode. Check it out when you have time! You are very lucky that you got to spend 3 years in Germany...I bet you had an awesome time with your friends there!

I lived there too as an army brat (83-85). Lee Barracks?

@@smdftb8495 Yes! I used to do garrison duty, (MP), and Lee Barracks was one of the areas (housing, mainly) that we patrolled. And there was the BEST breakfast place very close to it. You could get the most delicious ham/cheese/egg sandwich. I would get that, then go to the little zoo with the wild boars, and watch them while I ate my breakfast. I know that area very well.

@@Anna_Stetik Cool! I was there as a little boy 83-85 and loved when the ice cream truck would come by our apt and I'd get 1 scoop of lime sherbet in a cone for 75 pfennigs lol.

I lived there while in the Military at a Airfield not very far from the City Center back in the early 80's. I am sure that a lot has changed over the years. Is it worth checking out. Without a doubt in my mind , if you are in Germany I sure would recommend it ! be sure to check out the Guttenberg Museum and for sure the Cathedral. Mainz has a lot of history and the surrounding area as well. Thank you for it brought back some fond memories.
