this and your roller trick vid are giving me the confidence to skim the walls at my place, needed due to having the tenants from hell staying for 6 months. I've done so much patching of holes I think a skim coat is in order. I come from a family of painters (father and brothers), i was the black sheep who got a desk job :) For many years I worked weekends as a journeyman, and I did offside with a plasterer for a couple months..but that decades ago. My cutting in skills are still there and ability to patch holes, and knowledge that the only way to get a good finish is in the prep...what I seem to have lost is my speed and soft back and knee muscles from a lifetime as a desk jockey :) liked and subbed...you have a great resource here.

Thank You sooo much for sharing this Great Video !! This is the very first video I have seen (0ver 100) that shows how to work and fix bad wall repairs. My kitchen was remodeled in 2008 . I took down 2 upper kitchen cabinets on either side of my kitchen window which faces North. I swiped the wall with my hand and white powder covered it. I then started wiping the other walls and kept wiping off white powder, This is telling me that walls are not painted. The person just basicly put a thin coat of mud on walls and may have put on enough white primer to make it look painted. I thought it had paint on the walls cuz it was brighter white than the paint that was on it b4 the remodel. Bright florescent lighting made them even look whiter! I will be using Plus 3 in the box joint compound to do skim coats. Should I skim coat and prime all the walls b4 painting or just places like screw pops,added more mud on areas, previously painted areas , around switch plates etc?

I have the PRO-99 RX-35 I was going to use to seal it first before skim coating. Also need to replace some of the tape in the corners and midway down the wall, (must have cut the drywall when installing instead of one big sheet). The builder really packed the mud on thick along the taped areas. I believe I saw a video about taping but wondering if the wallpaper video is up yet. Thanks!! Enjoying your videos!! The deep plaster isn't like anything I have seen compared to modern stuff. Have no idea of what they used. Instead, I filled the holes with durabond and easysand. now ready to try skim coat with regular mud. Sure hope it will work. thanks for your videos.
Yeah put some fans on it and crank the air conditioner. If there is an attic? Go and move any insulation from anywhere that it's wet.Let me know when you get back if the ceiling is sagging? Or it's condition.👍 -Paul
Paul does a great job here that requires very little sanding. With a lot of practice, sanding takes little time (cost-effective) and results with a fine substrate for painting without having all that unnecessary "drywall dust" Primer won't stick to dust and must be cleaned thoroughly. Otherwise, the painted walls could easily peel, nick and/or chip no matter how high the quality of the paint. I have seen paint literally come off the wall with a scrub from cleaning because the substrate was "over sanded". As a professional painter of 40 years, I would love to follow behind this man's work in both remodel and new construction And he can use this quote anywhere he likes.
Paul if you're skimming to the right you put all your pressure on the right side of the knife? And when you're skimming left you put the pressure on the left side of the knife? Thanks!

What grit of sandpaper would be fitting after a skim coat? Im probably not gonna be able to achieve a good enough surface to not have to sand.
Paul does a great job here that requires very little sanding. Blisters and bubbles are a pain. I use 5 min mixed with plaster of Paris and hot water. Sets up in 2-3 mins.
