Bornholm is an island in the east of Denmark also known as the Sunshine Island (solskinsøen). The island has a strategic location in the Baltic Sea and was ruled by Denmark, Sweden and Lübeck. (Danish pronunciation: [pɒːnˈhʌlˀm]) is a Danish island in the Baltic Sea, to the east of the rest of Denmark, south of Sweden, northeast of Germany and north of Poland. The island has a population of 40,000. Most of the inhabitants live in the coastal towns of Rønne, Allinge and Sandvig. Some other highlights of the island are the rocky coastline, the Hammershus ruin and the windmills.
