Nicky Rod was aggressive and turned up the heat as the match went on but I love Cyborgs style better. His half guard game and guard retention and attacking from the half guard and inverting very smooth and fun to watch. I thought Cyborg won.

He backed away SMARTLY from the ground fight something like 20-25X over 5 rounds. He won the decision because he had better striking than Maia. Which again proved my point: phenomenal Jiu Jitsu and high level striking is the most lethal combo. Maia just has unathletic and poor striking so he was missing one component. Woodley had 2. Wrestling which he only used to not fight, and striking which was better than Maias’. Another Perfect example is when former World Heavyweight UFC Champ Fabricio Verdum beat up and then submitted the monster wrestler and cardio machine Cain Velasquez. Cain was afraid to take him down and then couldn’t win the standup war either. After getting soundly out-struck the wrestler Cain fell back on wrestling and got quickly choked out by the Jiu Jitsu master by sticking his head into a guillotine which is what pretty much what every tired (or untrained in Jiu Jitsu) wrestler always does when they are losing the striking battle 🤷🏾♂️ Wrestling by itself REALLY makes you a sitting duck unless you have good Standup fighting to back you up. Or great submission defense (which is not wrestling at all- its BJJ).

@@jordanpir68 it'll take more than 2 years imo. Dont forget there's killers like Roberto jiminez coming up, the guys he beat are only gonna get better (excluding cyborg) and theres guys like Felipe Pena which he hasn't faced yet. Keep in mind his performance against vinny magalhaes, atm hes got no plan b and its gonna take him alot longer then 2 years for his weaker game to catch up. Personally I dont think Danaher is BJJ jesus either, the guy is clearly an immense teach teacher but if hes actually as good as what the DDS says he is hed have more than just 2 top level competitors. One of which was already pretty good before he started training under him (craig jones)
