    Interesting to note that this non-Disney version of Beauty & The Beast is narrated James Earl Jones, who'd go onto voice Mufasa in Lion King. Hmm. I wonder if he remembers this job. Probably not. Given how many more significant roles he'd had over the years.

    This actually wasn't the first time Claire Bloom played Beauty-she played Beauty on the pilot episode of Shirley Temple's Storybook in 1958. Charlton Heston played opposite her as The Beast. I've been trying to find that version but I haven't been successful at finding it-I hope I can find it one day! I guess this is the next best thing!

    This was aired as part of an afterschool special compilation called "Misunderstood Monsters," which, along with a linking story about a little boy trying to fit in, showed adaptations of several kids' books about, well, misunderstood monsters. I love the Marianna Meyer picture book it's based on and the Mercer Mayer illustrations (which are so far above Little Critter it's not even funny).

      These Bosustow Entertainment efforts aren't too bad, there's a few gems like their adaptation of Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree".

      I don't think it's bad, but if this version is based on the Mercer/Marianna Meyer book I wish it had stuck closer to the book's designs.

    Beauty said she could never be Beast's wife even though she already knew his kindness and gentle side, then she suddenly loves him (maybe from guilt) when she realizes he's dying and sees how handsome he becomes and has no hesitation in accepting his proposal. Let's face it, even she thinks appearances are important.
    Good cartoon with good voice actors :-)

    • @WolfieMcMuffin
      @WolfieMcMuffin 8 лет назад +4

      +Marie George I think the reason she - and other Beauties in other adaptions of the tale - say they cannot marry the Beast despite his kindness because he physically isn't human! He's a monster, and obviously no one would want to marry something physically inhuman despite how kind it was!

    • @unamed2516
      @unamed2516 5 лет назад +1

      WolfieMcMuffin And it could also be because she doesn’t know know him which causes her to not love him. That’s a reason I’ve heard once in an adaptation.

    And another thing, it has Mufasa's voice off from The Lion King, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride and The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, Kibosh's voice off from Casper: A Spirited Beginning, Daddy King's voice off from Our Friend, Martin, Papa Jenkins's voice off from Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins and the man who's a stutterer's voice off from The Angriest Man in Brooklyn.

    The Grimm's did write their own annonated version. It was retitled "The Summer and Winter Garden", because it was not of German orgin (the original was of French origin) and was a bonus story, because it was taken out of circulation from the regular collection and replaced with "Lily and the Lion", a somewhat similar tale.

    The Brothers Grimm didn't write it. The most common and popular version was buy Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont in the 1756.

      ebmosier1 Yeah the brothers Grimm wrote the Lady and the 🦁 I wonder why there aren’t much adaptations as that? It’s still as good as beauty and the beast.

    While people complain at the design/animation of this, I did notice the actual book this was apparently adapted from had illustrations from Mercer Mayer in it, though I'm not sure why they didn't use those. I suppose it's a case of needing to simplify things necessary to animate.

    I could never understand the plot of beauty and the beast. The beast was an 11 year old kid living in a castle. A creepy old hag ask him to come in. So...nobody else answers the door? Parents? Servants? Now when he does not want to let a stranger in the house at 11, he must be punished. He should provide a virtually free hotel room to some ubber scarry old witch woman and he is punished. Gosh, maybe he thought she was an evil witch that would curse him and dang yippie skippie he was right after all. House servants where also transformed and punished because...because...um... Whatever... The prince is also he was punished for not having love in his heart. When I was 11, I spent my time playing with Tonka Toys, BB guns and for some reason was not interested in finding my eternal love, marriage or deep romance. Now Belle is kinda weird. She has a Chip-n-Dales village quality hunk ( Gaston) going for her but she ends up wanting to spend life with a dog/man/beast thing? Kinky but strange. Belle almost gets eaten by wolves but, later goes back into the same woods to find her father. So... why didn't the wolves eat her father or her? I guess even starving wolves don't want to touch those mutants. Gaston warns the townspeople that the Beast is a man-eating monster that must be killed. He's been a monster for 10 years but tonight the villagers suddenly feel deathly afraid by a monster that lives with a petite unarmed teenage girl. The Beast's servants defeat the townspeople! Why? Does anyone else go on a medieval battle field for a castle they don't own. The beast fight Gaston and kills him. Nothing scary for Belle to get out of there... So after witnessing first degree murder, Belle decides to kiss the beast. Now he become a beautiful hansom man. Um Belle... If you wanted a hansom man, why didn't you just marry Gaston in the beginning and not have to face wolves, creepy monsters and other near death experiences. Finally, the princess and prince dance around with the father and servants watching. Yea, thanks for not fighting the castle battle Dad.... As for the servants?! Like they would stick around to be turned into silverware again for another 10 years.
