amzn.to/2SMvZV3 Schilke 14a4a LEAD trumpet mouthpiece review BY Kurt Thompson
The quintessential lead trumpet mouthpiece of all time, the SCHILKE 14A4A MOUTHPIECE!
I can't think of a more popular and typical mouthpiece that any trumpet player would have in their tool box for playing commercial gigs, broadway shows, big band, rock, recording sessions, etc....than this mouthpiece!
The schilke 14a4a lead trumpet mouthpiece seems to be the GO TO mouthpiece for most non-commercial trumpet players when they get a call to do something outside their typical orchestral gig!

oh yeah...kurt may earn a teensie eensie..weensie fee should you go for this mouthpiece, but dont' worry: amazon takes it on the chin and you still get the lowest price! #leadtrumpet

The Schilke 14a5a IS the most common, typical, popular GO TO trumpet mouthpiece for most professional trumpet players especially classical trumpet players that normally play orchestral music!

My experience of the 14a4a as a young trumpet player was that it gave you the sound you wanted but it was tiring to play on for long periods. The answer for me was the MF style V cup, even though I play Bach 1 sized mouthpieces for orchestral playing. I must be one of the lucky 1 in 1000 who can play on both styles of mouthpiece. For a good all round mouthpiece the 3C is hard to beat for most players. I noticed that it’s now the biggest selling mouthpiece on the Thomann web site (Europe’s biggest brass instrument supplier).

I've had a schilke 14a4a heavyweight mouthpiece lying around for a few months now. It was included when I bought a trumpet second-hand. Never gave it much thought. I did try it out for a few minutes in the middle register and liked the tone.
Ealier today I started the search for a new mouthpiece for lead playing and saw the schilke 14a4a high up on the list and thought "wait. I have one of those" definetly gonna play it as my main mouthpiece for the next few weeks and see how it feels

I’ve been using one for years now, in jazz and just commercial pop music. and I was always fine with it. Felt comfortable. But I joined the wind ensemble at my school and everyone complains my tone is way too bright. Now I just want a dark mouthpiece. Make me sound like a flugel

Try a Bach 3E...it will still be slightly bright, but much darker than the 14a4a

Hey kurt thanks so much for this. I happend to have this mouthpiece exactly, and a few days ago a friend let my try the next one (Schilke 15A4A) for a few songs, and it seemed much better for general. Could you review that one as well ???? Sorry about my English
