      It's so funny when some weebs are offended with this. They can't comprehend that anime is Japanese Cartoon.
      Edit: Read the replies to understand. Cartoons isn't just for kids. You must have not live long for y'all to assume that cartoons doesn't have matured contents. If that's your argument because there are animes that aren't meant for kids then please let your kids, younger sibs, or kid neighbors watch Family guy because if you're perception on cartoons is it is just for kids then I don't know what to do with you anymore.
      Y'all weebs should have argued that it is different because of cultural differences, animation differences, style differences. Not the because anime aren't for kids and cartoons are.
      I mean I watch anime for like 10 years now (I am 20 now btw). Have watched gore animes, shounen, shoujo, yuri, yaoi, josei, slice of life, drama, romcom, etc., depressing sh*ts, have read manga, manhwas, manhua, been an otaku for almost all of my life, surrounded by otakus (my friends, my family) (my mom watch anime too before) But still, I consider anime as Japanese cartoon.
      I guess we all have differences in this kind of topic. Well whatever suits you best.

      @@DishWsher I'm not offended but, I think it's not the same, cartoon is an animation, like anime but it's like stating Japanese art is renaissance or impressionism art (not sure). But as far as I know the creator did not say that dbz is a cartoon. He just said that "dbz is great for that"

    • @DishWsher
      @DishWsher 2 года назад +132

      @@user-gu8vq9iy7j It's all about perspective and perception. When people think about cartoon they think that it's just for kids but it's not (Adult cartoon is an example). That's how some of the weebs' mind work. Anime is Japanese cartoon. There's also western cartoon. Same with anime, it has many genres and themes but mostly people watch on TV are those cartoons for kids. But it's the same. It's cartoon but also different in terms with art style or concepts. (I'm bad with my English but I hope I have conveyed my thoughts to the readers)

    • @dawnchesbro4189
      @dawnchesbro4189 2 года назад +81

      @@user-gu8vq9iy7j some anime is targeted towards younger viewers. And some anime is meant for older viewers. But remember that cartoons aren't necessarily meant for younger viewers. Cartoons are defined as
      "a motion picture using animation techniques to photograph a sequence of drawings rather than real people or objects."
      Or
      "a simple drawing showing the features of its subjects in a humorously exaggerated way, especially a satirical one in a newspaper or magazine."
      Nothing in that definition says anything about viewers ages. Therefore, Cartoons are anime and anime is a cartoon. Cartoons can be for adults as well as younger viewers. Let's not gatekeep anime/cartoons. Let people who enjoy that art form enjoy it!

    I am currently studying figure drawing. So thankyou! Honestly the fact that you say trace it, copy it, etc really gives me confidence. Because I really have been wanting to just really break apart my favorite illustrations lately. Get in, trace it, draw it from reference, use the reference as reference, etc. The tracing part is the taboo, it's one I have crossed before, and one that I consider an ample tool in rotoscope animations. I just have to once again swallow my pride. I feel as though the journey of an artist is a journey of realizing your pride is making you take the hard route.
    Like if my ADHD allowed me to just really go back to basics and get properly good at one thing before moving on to another I know I'd excel. Because one moment I'll draw a doodle that sprawls into a tapestry of psychedelic mind dump, the next I want to draw a character but am self conscious of my skill so I draw figures for now, then I focus on shapes for a bit. Like I look through my sketchbooks and it's always all over the place. I kinda own it but it makes the process of acquiring new skills a slow one. Cuz it's like a drip feed of investment without properly expanding onto the concepts into "mastery". My definition of mastery is ostensibly acquiring the muscle memory of how to draw the thing, it may not look masterful yet but you have acquired that shape combination or artistic process and can refine it.
    My thought honestly was, "every job I work I end up getting to the point within a few weeks where the entire thing is thoughtless and automatic."
    If I can just start really even isolating hour snippets where I work on something I think I'll do better. Cuz nearly everything I work on I do in bits in pieces whilst I do something else, be it work or in between working out. The latter being something that is a round the clock thing for me due to being an amateur Sumo wrestler. But even sumo, the best results I've had is when I just go into a battle trance for an hour or two. Like you've pushed through the pain, you feel like you want to pass out and you've felt like that for the last 30 minutes, but then you envision one more opponent and suddenly life surges back through your body and your are able to push yourself into the truly endurance zone. I think in any skill you learn best when you are at your most uncomfortable. Like some of my favorite drawings have been stuff that I have drawn that was way out of my skill level but I did it anyway.
    With my art I think the big solution is what it always will be, practice. And I won't say unfortunately, I'll say I'm fortunate that I have practice to look forward to. It's fun to get into those meditative states. I think that's also half the battle, making whatever you are doing fun. If you are excited to do it when you get home then it will be fullfilling, but if you view it as a mountain of practice you have to grind through it'll take forever. Yeah dude, I'm gonna have fun with meditating through my art. Screw setting arbitrary deadlines that I'll break and disappoint myself. I'm gonna live in art at all times, if that means 1 drawing a week or 100 drawings a week it means no difference as long as I'm engaging in that practice.
    Thanks for this little meditation through text my guy.

    Also, Akira Toriyama’s art style is so incredibly fun to draw and emulate for some reason?? I genuinely don’t know why, I just encourage everyone to give it a try. It’s absurdly fun.
    I think it’s something with the exaggerated proportions and dramatic physics of stuff like hair and clothes. You can play around and get crazy with it. If you’re feeling down and uninspired, draw a random character in Toriyama’s style. It will brighten your day up.

    My dad gave me his copy of the book from when he was a kid and it has helped immensely! Plus, it's so cool to know I'm holding something probably 20 years older than me 🤣
    It is, however, not very diverse in terms of bodies and faces so I do recommend trying to apply the tips they give but using reference images of POC, plus size ppl, disabled ppl, and in general diverse types of people as an excersize!
