Good to learn that the special alertness to everything during a walk is a breed thing, as our 8-month-old female parti is reacting to *everything*. She becomes an anchor when scared, sitting like a statue rather than flinching or jumping. It is both frustrating and hilarious. I’ve learned to walk her in a circle like a horse to break the spell and get her moving again. We’ve already seen growth in this area in the few weeks we’ve had her, but it was good to see Roo noticing just as much as Ruby.

yes! Standard Poodles are extremely aware of their surroundings. They are smart enough to understand that anything could potentially hurt them, until they learn not to be afraid, they will stay afraid of each thing they encounter. This is why I tell buyers that if you are not prepared to spend socialization time with your poodle, it may not be the dog for you.

@ We’ve hit the 10 month old point, and now our poodle is playing 3D chess while we’re playing checkers. Smart in such a complex way. The timid days are over, for sure.
