Slovakia could be an amazing place to visit. I totally suggest to visit the Tatras mountains. They're absolutely a dream for people into trekking and hiking. I just put a video about that. Nice video man!
Thank you for the recommendation! It is gorgeous there and doesn't hurt the pocketbook like hiking in Austria or Switzerland do, but still get great views.
I spent a few days in Bratislava in 2017 and LOVED it! We drove through the country in the evening and gasped at all the castles lit up on the hillsides. So many of them! Since it has been a few years, I can't remember exactly why I felt that Slovakia was so American-friendly, but it did feel that way. I suppose it was the people there. The first evening we checked into our beautiful white-washed stone hotel in Bratislava, I flipped on the TV and was shocked to see Twin Peaks playing. Episode after episode :) Someone at the Slovak TV station has a sense of humor!
I grew up in Slovakia and I used to watch Twin Peaks with my dad lol And you're right that Slovakia is American-friendly, two very important documents were signed in the US, the Cleveland Agreement and the Pittsburgh Agreement which helped Czechs and Slovaks to get rid of the monarchy (Austro-Hungarian Empire) :) We wanted to be a democratic country (federation at that time) and the US was the first country to back up this plan so thank you for helping us :)

Slovakia is crazy beautiful! That's crazy that this country isn't a popular tourist destination! The country looks stunning to visit! Also, I hear the food is INSANELY good, and your video shows that it is. I hope to make plenty of friends when I go out to Slovakia. I love FOLK history, and I want to experience all of that. I can't wait to see the nature out there as I am sure you would agree that your video doesn't do it justice!. The cheese looks very interesting. It might be stinky, but it looks very delicious. I love history, so the castles will be a dream to visit in the country. When do you think it is the best time to visit? Thank you, Mark!
If you are going for nature, you might consider august - october. The weather in mountains tend to be more stable here, with clearer air and less water vapor, which means better visibility. Just remember to pack some warmer and wind resistant layer, it can get cold up there. I did forgot once, got a mild windchill.
the cheese has little to no smell in my opinion :D

Thank you Mark for a nice portrait of my homeland. It made my day. I liked that you distinguished between a cheap country and an affordable country. Yes, 20-30 years ago, Slovakia was a cheap country for many tourists and later it became affordable. (Unfortunately, for the majority of locals it is a very expensive country when you consider that they have to live on their low salaries (3.71€ per hour, 646€ per month - brutto, 2022). We 'joke' that Slovakia is the country of miracles as it is a real miracle to survive there. Many people do their shopping in Hungary, Austria or Poland as it is cheaper.)
I'm really glad that you have a wonderful experience in my home country. ☺ Awesome video by the way, and I'm grateful for such a wonderful presentation of our country. 🙏 Wish you and your family all the best!

A very nice presentation of my country. Thanks a lot.👍👍👍 I have just 2 notes: 1. Czechoslovakia has finished December 31th 1992. So this year it will be 30, not 20 years. 2. As for the Slovenia, I am very glad you pay attention to difference between Slovenia and Slovakia. There are Hungary and Austria between these 2 countries. But originally - in the past - it surely had been the same country. Languages are very similar and both inhabitants in Slovenia and Slovakia use for naming their countries exactly the same word: Slovensko. 😀
Thank you... very nice video. :) I do live in Bratislava and I really do not like overcrowded cities. I was a few times in Barcelona, Prague or London and besides these cities were nice, there was so much people around you... you just do not have a minute to get a break. And that is why I love my city. :D

Love this video that you did. It’s a nice introduction and tour guide of Slovakia but Czech Republic and Slovak Republic separated in 1992 so it’s gone by 30 years 😬😅
Thank you for the great video. As a Slovak, I think what you said here is really true. Maybe just for the tourist part, nobody goes to Bratislava, but check Slovak mountains (Tatra, Fatra, etc.), castles and caves (several of them offer guided tours) during the high season and you may be surprised.

How are the prices there, especially in winter? I have seen people complaining and suggesting to go to Alps for skiing instead.
@@D.von.N if you compare with Alps then this is really cheap and you can obtain more experiences for the same money.
I grew up in Slovakia and I used to watch Twin Peaks with my dad lol
And you're right that Slovakia is American-friendly, two very important documents were signed in the US, the Cleveland Agreement and the Pittsburgh Agreement which helped Czechs and Slovaks to get rid of the monarchy (Austro-Hungarian Empire) :) We wanted to be a democratic country (federation at that time) and the US was the first country to back up this plan so thank you for helping us :)
My family is from Slovakia and I’ve always wanted to go visit. Thanks for the Slovakia love and all the cool information!!
As a Slovak person If you ever go you should try Slovak traditional duck and visit many castles.
I would go in summer or late spring
If you are going for nature, you might consider august - october. The weather in mountains tend to be more stable here, with clearer air and less water vapor, which means better visibility. Just remember to pack some warmer and wind resistant layer, it can get cold up there. I did forgot once, got a mild windchill.
the cheese has little to no smell in my opinion :D
based on what you wrote, definitely the best time for you is around summer... there are many folk festivals you can visit and enjoy and is better for visiting castles too
Thanks for you words
I m from Slovakia
my mom was born in bratislava. i love the country very much, many of my mother's relatives live there. she came from a small village at the foot of the high tatras
I come from Poprad, would you know what village?
@@respect78able Stara Lesna, right at the foot of the lomnitz peak
@@Stein0001 l know that place, l worked there in hotels during my school times😃
That makes your mum an Eastern Slovak woman, good stuff, ask my husband
😂
Do Slovaks make their last name feminine like the Poles and Russians do?
One of my favorite countries in the world
It's pretty nice :)
Thank you for the kind words and showing the bright side of my country. 👍
Thank you so so much....I am Slovakian and your video just melt my heart 😍😍😍😍
I'm czech, I really love your enthusiasm, we love our brothers!
I go to capital almost every single day because of school and heard the spiel about the castles and nature like hundred times , but I never get tired of the wonder and enthusiasm foreigners display in their videos either in their travelling videos or tasting Slovak sweets fans send them. It always fixes my attitute towards this country and gives me hope.
Glad you like our little country 😉
Cheers from Slovakia 🇸🇰
This was a great review. We plan to be there in May. Visiting Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, and Czech Republic. And we understand the name think. Have explained “West Virginia is a different state from Virginia” all my life. Thanks for the travel tips.
you are welcome here :) enjoy your visit
Czech republic -Czechia👍, Slovak republic- Slovakia………😏
Thank you, Wolter, so nice to have you visit my home city, Kosice, and I really hope you enjoyed the food and people. Very lovely way you talk about our people, they need to open up a bit more to the visitors. The language is often the barrier. I do love your videos. Awesome work!
Thank you Xenia
Actually, it's almost 30 years since the CZSK breakup! Crazy how the time flies
You seem very genuine the way you talk about all the countries that you've visited.
I'm so happy that you spared a few minutes and presented my country on your channel. I'm glad that you had a blast.
You are an awesome reviewer and you've earned a new subscriber.
Cheers
Next stop i recomend Slovak paradise and Košice. Please do a video about Košice. Its smaller then Bratislava but the historic center you need to see.
Thank you very much. Watching your video I had a mix of smile and happy tears. I love my country. Being married to a US husband, we never thought to move to the US and always wanted to stay in Slovakia. We live in Bratislava and my US husband loves it here. 🙂

Slovakia Nature, here I come!
Hello, I'm from Slovakia. 🇸🇰 If you want someone who will show you interesting places in Bratislava in the summer, tell me.🖐😄
Thanks for speaking about my country in a very positive way. And yes, it is a great country, so it is a shame that many people only talk about Prag when Slovakia is also beautiful. And yes, Slovakia is not in Eastern Europe. Exactly!!! I like your video
My partner is slovakian and I love the country 😍 I love the nature, the weather, the food and beautiful Tatry ❤️ People are nice and kind and I cant wait to move to live there ❤️
Your partner is Slovak, there's no such word Slovakian. Slovak mountains, Slovak cities, Slovak people etc.
@@bobberes7155 you better mind your business and respect the people who loves your country 😄
Your so RIGHT :) i lived theremand had the time of mynlife there! Its a therapy to live there! Fresh air, beautiful people
Honestly, thank you for presenting Slovakia in a very positive perspective. There are really a lot of nice places in the Slovakia which they are really interesting and frightening as well, but after all it's still a well-balanced trip 😂. Your video is really good. Thank you once again.
Pozdravujem zo Žiliny 👋
hmmm. Ask Poles and Hungarian if they share same sentiment..
After all what's known as a " Slovakia" was territory of Hungarian and Polish State..
@@mathoney2538 After all, we're not like that at all. Absolutely not like hungarians, A little with the Poles, because they are Slavs
Yes Slovakia is beautifully country, thank you for presentation of my country
Loving all these Slovakia videos! Such wonderful prep for our trip in August!
may I ask, what is the purpose of your visit? Capital city / nature / who knows? 😀 Anyway i really hope you will enjoy staying here ♥️🇸🇰. Feel free to ask me anything if you are looking for advice 👍
Welcome and prepare for 33°C... but in mountains it can be about 5°C 😉
Enjoy your trip, I hope that you will love it
I would love to visit Slovakia
Thank you Mr Wolter, great video. I have to say thanks again for calling the people "Slovaks", I am of Slovak heritage (live in Canada) and it always bothers me when people use the term "Slovakian". Small thing, but a bother. Again, great vid!
Thank you :) He scored extra points for that with us too ;)
lol you don't even live there but somehow still manage to get triggered. Typical Canadian.
My grandparents were from Slovakia... they came from Poráč. I cannot wait to visit this beautiful land of my ancestors and eat all that awesome Slovak food. 😅
This makes me so happy as a Slovak : ) Beautiful thank you
Thank you for advertising my beloved hometown.
Nice video! As a Slovak, I'm happy to hear that you like it here. 😊 I recommend to visit Špania Dolina (the village in the hills), Stará Ľubovňa castle, Strečno castle, Kremnica city or Skalica city. Honestly, there are too many great places, even I haven't visited them yet (but I want to!) 😂. Have a nice day. ✨
Thank you so much.
Slovakia is a beautiful country with incredible people.
I am a Slovak who’s been living in USA for a very long time now.
I appreciate this video so much!
Love your heart and passion in this video.
As an American of Slovak descent, with family in Slovakia, you're spot on. Slovakia is a great destination with a lot to offer, and great people.
When I was in Vienna, I ask the desk clerk of my hotel how long was the train ride to Bratislava…he said, “ why do you want to go there?”…I said, “never mind, thanks anyway”…
Slovak people that I know have said the same thing to me but I still would love to go
@@missimccarthy8408 …Ljubljana in Slovenia is suppose to be a cool, little, town to visit.
@@missimccarthy8408 because we think Bratislava is not so great :) we think there are better things to visit in Slovakia :) ... but you know is still matter of taste :) I like more nature so I would always prefer our High and Low Tatras ...
Thank you for presenting my beautiful country Slovakia.
Thank you to say such a nice words about my country and city. Hope you will enjoy it here all time time you visit us :)
I'm really glad that you have a wonderful experience in my home country. ☺ Awesome video by the way, and I'm grateful for such a wonderful presentation of our country. 🙏 Wish you and your family all the best!

Hello Wolter, many thanks for nice words about my country. Mária from Bratislava
Your video on '10 Shocks of Visiting Slovakia' is quite eye-opening! It's fascinating to learn about the unique aspects and cultural differences that can surprise visitors to Slovakia. Experiencing new perspectives and embracing diversity is what makes traveling so enriching. Thanks for sharing these insights and helping us broaden our understanding of Slovakia. Keep up the great work of promoting intercultural exploration!
Thanks! 😃
Thanks for this video, You said all the most imporatnt things for somebody who never visited. I’m Slovakian and very proud of our tiny country full of kind people and nature ❤️
You are not Slovakian. You are Slovak. There's no such word Slovakian. Slovak mountains, Slovak cities, Slovak people etc.
Planning on visiting Poland and Slovakia this October! Two beautiful looking countries! As an outdoorsy person, Slovakia looks like heaven! 😍
Hope you enjoyed your stay here :)
@@Qadow I had a great time in Slovakia! The geography reminds me very much of Tennessee! Gorgeous country!!!
@@lukeswain1752 Love to hear that :)
Love it, especially about Czechoslovakia - Slovakia and Eastern - Central !
Such a lovely and upbeat video! As someone who's born and raised here, this brought a big smile to my face.
Also, you said you didn't know how to pronounce Spiš but you said it really well the first time around! Just the i should be a tiny bit shorter because you said it close to spíš, which translates to "you sleep/you are sleeping" :)
Thank you so much for putting so nice picture of my country in this video! DO not hesitate and come visit Slovakia ♥ ...I am proud that I am from this little unnoticed piece of earth :D and again thank for your Highlight that is not Czechoslovakia :D I really really appreciate that :) ♥
Separated twenty years ago ? Make that thirty ! ;-))
More seriously, I remember your early videos from nine or ten years ago, including the ones you made in Slovakia. Even if they're older, I can recommend them to any of your more recent viewers. They were all great. :-)
Thank you for this awesome video!!👏
Dude! What a lovely words about us and our country! :) Thanks a lot and I hope you come here more often
Thank you for great opinion and recommendations about my home country:)
Thanks for the new video Mark! I've wanted to visit Slovakia for years. Also I've never been this early to one of your videos!
Glad I can help out
Wow I didn't know non of that. Learned something new. I may look into trying to do a 3 or 4 day trip there. someday.
Glad I could help betty
I soooooo want to go there and spend a decent amount of time there...
you are welcome :)
Hi, dude. Thanks for all those wonderful words :)
Thank you so much for your kind words and cracking video! Very very very much appreciated!! 👏👍😘
A very nice presentation of my country. Thanks a lot.👍👍👍
I have just 2 notes:
You know for me the 90s were just a few years ago ;)
Nice 👍 Greetings from Slovenia ✌️🇸🇮
Srdečne pozdravujem ❤️ všetkých Slovincov do🇸🇮 Republiky Slovenie od nás Slovákov z Bratislavy 🇸🇰 v Slovenskej republike!
Thank you... very nice video. :)
I do live in Bratislava and I really do not like overcrowded cities. I was a few times in Barcelona, Prague or London and besides these cities were nice, there was so much people around you... you just do not have a minute to get a break.
And that is why I love my city. :D
Iam from India and right now here at Slovakia , doing vlogs and visiting Castles , Folk architecture etc . There is alot of things and new experiences. Language is a bit pblm but nature and people are good(some are rude too) ❤
Thank you so much it's amazing to hear so many nice things about our country 🥰
Thank you for your kind words about Slovakia and Bratislava, perfectly summed up. When you are at Ventúrska street don't forget to have your cup of tea in the Underground tearoom in Zichy palace. It is a charming place to see.
Finally Someone who knows travelling, finally Someone with culture ! 👏👍🏆
Love this video that you did. It’s a nice introduction and tour guide of Slovakia but Czech Republic and Slovak Republic separated in 1992 so it’s gone by 30 years 😬😅
thanks for nice words about my country :)
On this summers travel so excited to add to places to have seen
Thanks for your video! :) I come from Slovakia and I am really proud of my country and it is nice to hear how some foreigners say about it. Greetings from Slovakia.
