She knew HER track better, than anyone. The only one, who might even come close, would be HJ Stuck, but SHE literally grew up on that track, drove it on the way to school. She did more laps around that course, than anyone. She lapped it in barely 10 minutes in a bloody Ford Transit, for crying out loud. I am surprised, how people are surprised by her performance. THE ultimate Nordschleife legend. Hands down.
I can help you with your questions: They started this far back because they got a penalty during the qualifying that negated their laps. There is only one real GT3 car in this video other than her, the Ford GT (awesome car, I miss it). There were very few GT3 entries in that race because it was the one after the 24h race, so many teams took a break in the summer or did not participate in the VLN after the 24h at all. All Porsche that she passed are Cup cars, most of them 997 Cup, only one 991 Cup. The two Porsche in front of her at Hatzenbach (the striped one and the blue one) are 997 Cups with GT3 Bodykits. Actually there have been few Ferraris racing nearly every year since 2010 in VLN. The ones in the Video are 458 Challenge cars racing in the SP8 class. This team also used a 458 GT3, but I think not that often. The last few years WTM brought 488 GT3 cars to the VLN and around 2011 to 2012 Farnbacher had these awesome Hankook branded F430 GT2 and 458 GT2 cars they used for VLN and 24h 😁 And last: yeah, Brünnchen was right 😉
There's only one queen of Nurburgring.Along with her driving, her cheerful attitude and personality is what set her apart from most racers, that act more like robots than people. Rest in peace,Sabine.
She can overtake so early because quite a lot of drivers on the VLN (specially the ones on the back) are "pay to race" and are mostly there just to complete or get a better racing license while they get experience, so they don't really want to furiously race but "let's at least finish the race and without any incidents".
You may partially be right, but the other factor is that she only passed one other GT3 car in this video, even though she managed to pass the other two class competitors the next lap wich is also impressive.
the reason shes overtaking so easily is because shes one with the nordschleife she knew every little detail of the track and she knew how the car reacts at every conditions she was one of a kind a true queen
She was and will always be the queen of the Ring. I Never managed to do a lap with her in the Taxi always wanted to do it never got to. Watching her drive is a pleasure. R.I.P Sabine
I was an active driver these years and do know for sure that Sabine had wets on a damp track, whereas most other competitors dared to start on slicks, which gave her a huge advantage in the beginning. My former team mate, with whom I won the VLN championship, and ex lap record holder in VLN was around 10 - 13 seconds quicker per lap in identical cars in identical conditions.
You can’t judge the age of the video by the cars on track alone. Many older cars continue to race in both VLN and N24, it’s part of the whole culture. Young timers like BMW E36s are fan favourites and stayed popular for decades on end. Thank you for sharing!
Back then her death came out of no where.. but actually she will never die. She was big part of my childhood. When i was a kid a watched all the car shows on TV with legends like Walter Röhrl, Nikki Schelle, Mattias Malmedie, Tim Schrick and of course Sabine Schmitz! All were essential in these car shows and this was my way to be part of the car and racing community, when i was a kid! THX Sabine and rest in peace! Im sure u drive along with all of us!
I would think Sabine is still the "Queen of Nurburgring..." I don't know of anyone who's taken that place since we lost her. There are some very good drivers that perform on "the 'Ring" but I haven't seen or heard of any that have the intimate knowledge and understanding of that race course, wet or dry. She had a very unique advantage... I think she very well might have learned to walk on the 'Ring! ;^) ...one very special Lady!!
Hey Ermin, long time viewer first time comment. Hope you've had a great Chrissy and Holidays mate. Awesome to find a Sim Racing Channel from my neck of the woods for once. Your content is extremely high quality (god I hate the word 'content'), super entertaining, so thank you for that. Standard for anything Australian I guess (just don't mention Scotty). This video.. such a shame, but also not so much, gives us all another chance to celebrate the Queen of the Ring, Sabine, rest easy you absolute legend. Cheers again Ham Sanga, you're helping kicking the insomnia away haha. Take care mate!
Watching laps from Sabine will never be boring. It’s a real shame she isn’t there anymore. Oh, and regarding the 488s: there were at least two in the 2021 edition of the N24. The frikadelli porsches ran that race with Sabines name still on them.
Correct me If i'm wrong. On the topic at 5:50 this 911 is 997 model, Back Then both GT3 R and RSR where allowed, aswell as the Ferraris and McLarens. All being in the GT3 Class of FIA Standards of this era. Today the highest class for N24 is SP9 i think, which follows the FIA GT3 class and includs the GT3 R, today's RSR and all the Ferraris/McLarens are build within the FIA GTE class. An even Higher class and Not allowed at the N24/NLS(VLN) Events. That is the Same reason the BMW M8 GTE isn't racing at the N24 but M6 GT3/M4 GT3 do. But as Stated If this is Not right Correct me^^
The cars were 997 Cup models with a GT3 bodykit, so not GT3 and the Ferraris were Ferrari Challenge Cars, also not GT3. Nowadays, there are still McLaren 650s/720s GT3s and Ferrari 458/488 GT3s. GTE is a totally different thing.
You said maybe it just started raining so the road isn't slick yet but the road is the slickest when it first starts to rain because it brings the oil up from the ground.
Well, IF I remember correctly the Ford GT was able to keep up with SP9s (GT3s) but maybe that was completely different in the rain. Maybe thats why its no longer racing. If you are wondering the GT itself ran in the SPX class which is special (GT3 like) sh!t.
I think it was still a GT3 entry that year, as they shifted to SPX later and came back with a heavily winged version then. But you may be right, too. Nonetheless, the Ford GT has in fact won a race in the VLN overall, but I am not sure wich specification they drove, I think it was still GT3 standard, too.
I didn't see your start question answered, so I'll do it: She can overtake before the start line, because the First car of her class crossed it, or accelerated. The Race is a go as soon as the Leader hits the Pedal with a green flag, or crosses the start finish line.
About your comment of not seeing Ferraris or mid engine cars in Nurburgring (VLN/N24), if I’m not mistaken, last year it was a Ferrari 488 GT3 who got the pole pos in the N24, and there is plenty mid engine cars in the vln/n24, like the Audi R8, the Lambos, a few Mclaren (I think that last year were only 2 or 3), and of course a few Ferraris 488.
Actually there were quite a few Ferraris already used in the 24h. I think there were just two years or three since 2010 that had no real Ferrari entry (not counting the Ferrari engined SCG P4/5 Competizione here). There were the Farnbacher F430 GT2 and 458 GT2 in 2010 and 2011, a 458 Challenge in 2013, a Rinaldi 458 GT3 in 2014 (and I think also 2015) and in recent years teams like WTM that used the prancing horse GT3 cars.
McLaren on the other hand was not seen on the Nordschleife since Dörr Motorsport started two MP4/12 C in 2014. Even though I hope for some 570S GT4 cars being used in the future. Great cars for this class.
Sabine new where every bit overgrip was it she had done thousands of laps..... I went round with her a ring taxi she knew every inch of that trac every bump every rut in the road she definitely knew where there grip she taken faster cars because of that
RIP Sabine, but I guess she was still about last after this lap in class. If you don't qualify, you end up at the back and I didn't notice any GT3-cars in this video. The team wasn't happy with the BoP of this pre 2018 Porsche and they've tried BMW M6 GT3 while Team Wochenspiegel switched from Porsche to Ferrari because of that. You can see from the interior that this car has more in common with the road-legal Porsche while GT3-cars nowadays are 100% purpose-build race-cars. The successor was basically the older RSR with much stiffer chassis, better aero-performance and rather mid-engine layout to have more space for the diffusor. IMO it's unfortunate that the GT3-class lost it's roadcar-roots completely because the races were usually more fun to watch that days with less aero, but more power and driver-responsibility. It was more like the current Porsche 992 Carrera Cup were you can really see which drivers have more talent, not just from the lap-times.
Rest in Peace, Königin der Nordschleife 😢
