It's not your whole arm. You just have to cut off your inner bicep vein. Look up the anatomy and it will make sense. It's the basilic vein, you pinch it. Not safe to do for extended periods because you're cutting off circulation.
It doesn't cause any damage, the veins become more visible because by applying pressure you make it harder for the blood to flow, so the veins are fuller. Doing it for seconds won't hurt you at all.
