Agree ,Rodgers is challenged every time he gets the ball as soon as he receives it,rarely beats his man and doesn't offer a lot without the ball. Palace are poor. Top 10 if we're lucky.UTV
Unai Emery is not the only student of the game. Opposing Managers have noted that when we play Carlos & Torres we have one of the slowest centre back pairings in the division. So they are beginning to ruthlessly expose that on the Break. This is compounded when we play our best Center Back at Right Back. Konsa has good center back pace but not full back pace. Bailey had a Good 2nd Half and that was largely down to having Cash to link up with on the Right Side. Why on earth did Emery play Bogarde at right back to start?? Emery stubbornly refuses to play Kosta Nedeljković in the Premier League. I`m sure he will be looking to leave Villa in January as Emery refuses to give him a proper opportunity. Also why not play Digne & Maatsen together, with Maatsen given a more advanced role as a left winger. He`s got the pace to frighten defences and its worth a try .
I also don't get the Nedeljkovic saga . The guy is young and naive but he's got pace and would be imo such a weapon going forward we wouldn't have to worry about defending ! (To a point )
love a good well deserved rant :) and I am right with you Luke, you were not overreacting, I am pretty pragmatic about losses and draws as I tend to think big picture and I was fuming and frustrated at this performance. Too many players are underperforming and I am also putting this on Emery too. I am not understanding some of his decision making, I am certainly not understanding how these players are not fired up. Something is off with them all, there is little fire, guile or creativity, really flat, I don't know where the goals are going to come from. And we are leaking like an old sieve. I know this is a stretch but I can't shake the feeling, I've had concerns from the first game of our season with us dropping off points, letting in goals early, lack of clinical finishing. but I think this is a run off from the end of last season as we limped to the 4th spot finish line. From a mentality POV. I hated how we ended the season with poor results exemplified by the 5 goal dubbing by Palace. From a 'winning' mentality POV, it shows a lack of pride and determination to dominate and to allow 5 in because as were already on the beach was embarrassing. Teams that want to get somewhere want to win every tackle, every play, every game. And we have carried that mentality into this season, literally from the first match outside of CL performances we have been below our own standard and it has zero to do with being in CL (Bayern aside). As we know, possession means zip if you do nothing with it and today Palace had less but looked sharp and focused on their game plan despite having key players out. We had moments but didn't really show concerted effort until the 60 min with the first round of subs. The stats below tell me we were lacking in intensity and focus. thats why we didn't win and until we sort out our intensity and tactical focus we will struggle in every match in every dept. Ground Duels: 48% to 52% Dispossessed 12 to 6 Tackles Won: 56 to 73%
Ross Barkley was quality today ,Teleimans was awful ,not because he missed the pen ,but giving the ball away , Emery needs to take the flak ,defending was awful ,it has been all season ,we can't keep out scoring teams to win games .
the trouble to me is, it's a differnet lineup every week. kamara out, onana in, barkley in , onana out. we need to get a consistent 11 on the pitch for more than a game or two.
I agree Luke about Bailey. I’m frustrated with him this season but still back him when he’s playing. We have to get behind the team and stop giving off negativity. The team is going through a poor patch but we need to support them even stronger and realise what we’ve done these last 2 seasons
It's terrible. It's as bad as any relegation sides back 4. It's awful. And it's awful game after game after game. It's not improving. If anything, it's getting worse.
@stuhector3511 I don't know. I can only compare it to when he was manager of Arsenal towards the end. They were conceding goals for fun for several games, and they just got worse until they sacked him. I can't explain what's going on. The problem is our defence looked bad with Gerrard and Dean Smith, we turned around with Emery for a while but we have looked dodgy in defence all season now but we aren't scoring enough to compensate as of late. I'm not sure he can sort it. It happened with PSG, too. I'm worried
I go back to the summer, and we had an awful transfer window! After qualifying for the CL, we've ended up with arguably a weaker squad. We ended last season in similar form to the run we are on now, and needed a good window to freshen up the defence in particular.
What worried me most was that we didn’t address the defence even though we have been leaking goals badly since about Xmas. The RB situation is a priority
I watched Italy v France in the week, Digne was excellent, two wonderful crosses for the two headed French goals and a free kick which hit the bar before going in off the goalkeeper's back, yet he comes back to us and can't make the team. I'm not saying he's the greatest defender, he's not, but he's certainly in form and his crosses are a big plus. We also need a penalty taker, Tielemans has missed three out of five, yes, they all miss them but the really good one's miss one in twenty. Your absolutely right Luke, the defence needs sorting and quickly.
To be fair we’ve been defensively shocking all season, it’s like teams have sussed us out and are just hitting us on the break and we’re getting punished ! It’s like we have to score 3 goals to win a game , it’s not sustainable and something must change. This has to be the worst run of form under Unai and we need to turn it round and get some consistency and results asap. Teams can’t continue just to plough through us so easily on the break away. UTV
@robertpowell7228 Yet, we're told every week how great Torres and Konsa are. They're not great, they're not even good. The proof is in the pudding. They can't defend
@@sjtdxitditsitdurzirxur5926yes said it for a long time.....Torres is too slow and easily bypassed. Trying to play offside for that first goal with TWO other defenders behind him!
Once again, no clean sheet. I just can't understand why we are playing so poorly. The amount of times we gave the ball away today was ridiculous, we either passed to wrong player or even straight out of play some of the passing was terrible.. You are right Luke, I just cannot understand why the defence has gone so awful and I include Emi in that too. He has let some shocking goals in this season. But overall our defence needs to be seriously looked at especially on the right side. Carlos I am afraid is just not good enough. We need at least one, better two for the right side in the January window. Pau and Ezri in the centre, Dinge or Maatsen excellent Cash ok but we need some real quality on the right. Onana was missed in mid-filed breaking up and holding play as was Kamara. The defence is what needs to be sorted as this is not good enough. UTV!!
Spot on. Direly missing the proper cover in front of the CBs, loose in bad spots but there was good stuff played with the ball too, and for me from the 25 min mark or so til subbed off bailey was much better. But without Kamara and Konsa not getting to play in his best role Villa have been getting absolutely blitzed on counters this season (Ipswich, Liverpool, today etc) was really expecting 3 points but a very disappointing day. If Konsa’s not there to make a great block/tackle in transition we usually concede or come really close to it every time. He’s the world’s #1 but relying on Emi to make world class stops just to save us a point so often’s unfair to him I think Kosta has to be Cash’s competition soon too. If cash doesn’t start or needs switching Emery should give him an opportunity; his recovery pace could possibly help dealing with these transitions
Villa have completed lost their way I've said for many months that we didn't strengthen our defence in the summer window. This error by the management is now glaring obvious. We're becoming bang average.
Fair comments Luke. Getting caught out on transition too often, including our own attacking set pieces. Kamara will make a big difference shielding our back line and Konsa for Carlos. UTV
When we were at our best last season we had Kamara and Luiz as the midfield pivot with an extremely organised backline. The offside trap we played was glorious. This season and the back end of last season, the offside trap has been a disgrace and the defending is up there with what i saw in the 19/20 season. Not even exaggerating. We have no problem with scoring goals but we’re starting to become a team that needs to outscore the opponent with 3 or 4 goals to win games alone. We need to get Kamara back in the team. Find a player in our squad who can play that ‘Luiz’ role and get a consistent back 4 going of Cash Konsa Pau and Digne/Maatsen.
Konsa back in CB when fit. Rogers needs to go back on the left, tielemans in the 10 for me. I don't mind the slow build up but at times it needs to be direct. I hate when we let teams get back into shape. The last 4 goals we have conceded have been shocking, i agree the space between Pau and Carlos is huge. Both have no pace which doesn't help. UTV
The defence is turning into a serious cause of concern atm.. it seems we are giving away really poor goals every game.. no worldies or good play just basic errors.. . And yes bang on, the line is wayyyy too high, ive been saying this for the past month, Unai needs to sort this quickly as it will cost us a european place at this rate
@@cymruambyth1542 I would be amazed if we won in the week. The defence is terrible. I will take a 0-3 loss now if offered. I think it could get painful unless we put everyone in a low block.
Much as I would love to I am unable to disagree with you about our defending, clearly haven’t learnt from the way Liverpool exploited our high line. I am also concerned about our lack of breaking through and being clinical in the final 3rd. I forgot Rogers was on the pitch, I thought Bailey was a bit better so hopefully he is gaining confidence. Maatsen looked good but Digne was even better.
I think part of the reason why we haven't been doing so well lately is our insistence on forcing the ball through the middle to Rogers, who too often loses it, or makes the wrong decision... I've seen Bailey wide open, in goal scoring position and Rogers either tries to force a pass to Watkins, or takes the ill-advised shot himself. Bailey's play and confidence will suffer when he's in prime positions to receive the ball to affect play in a positive way and selfish players choose not to make the correct pass. I fear Villa will not do well with Rogers in the this same role... players like, Bailey, Maatsen, Tielemans, Mcginn, Cash, games will all suffer with this tactic. Hopefully the gaffer realizes soon.
The defense apart from Martinez has been and remains a huge problem and nothing has been done for the last two months, If you get a penalty, no excuse for missing, Harry Kane never misses scored two penalties today, we need someone else, high time we appointment a very confident penalty taker already, also we need a speedy central defender 😡
I cant believe after an international break that we were still off it.. Defensively we were shocking, Tielemans had a mare... Cmon Villa... we need a bit more .. UTFV...
I remember reading a comment from an Arsenal fan on a Talk sport video, he mentioned how often they would be cut open under Emery. Do you think it's individual errors or is it down to Emery and his tactics? Maybe a bit of both?
We overachieved last season. We are ahead of schedule and we as a fan base just need to take a breath. I feel people are going to start questioning whether Emery is the right man for the job soon…which for me is ridiculous! No matter what for me, he deserves another summer. UTV ALWAYS!
On the positive, yeah I think we played some better stuff again. I also thought Bailey gave easily his best performance of the season. He's still some way off but it's a step in the right direction. Ollie was good too. Big worries: How suspect we are to quick turnovers, particularly after we've wasted set piece opportunities. We're making the same errors repeatedly. We saw this against Liverpool time and again. We've seen it all season. We have the same problems consistently. A big striker who can bully Pau. Pacey wingers who can hit us on the counter and overload us. I'm really not convinced on Maatsen. Bogarde is also not ready for me. Rogers. It feels like forever since Morgan had a really impactful game. He's struggling to influence games. His decision making (and this is partly age) is inconsistent and becomes more so if he's not having the best game. For me, I'm not convinced playing centrally is his best role. Especially at this stage of his career because there's a lot of pressure on him to make things happen in that gap between midfield and attack. He'd have a little less onus on him and a bit more space if we played him on the left. He can do what JJ does in that position and we're missing Ramsey I think too. Opposition players have worked Rogers out a little by getting tight and not letting him spin them. He loves getting to run at players. So stick him left, where he'll start from deeper and more room to just run at players. And Tielemens is struggling to control games like he did in the first 7-8 games. I'm not convinced he and Barkley suit playing together either, unless you have another who can sit deeper. What's happening at Villa Park? Bayern aside (and Arsenal despite the result), I really don't we've played well at all at home this season. 2023 with Unai was built on Villa Park being a fortress. 2024 in all honesty has been inconsistent and a little concerning. We need a turn of the tide I think and january signings will be essential.
Spot on Luke. Our home form has been terrible this season, masked by CL results. If this continues then we are in trouble.Tue only positive is that Heck won't be able to keep pushing up prices if we don't improve.
The difficulty of our next fixtures will likely force us to be a lot more pragmatic in our approach which we absolutely need to. Despite Villa’s success over last season, keeping clean sheets has always been a bit of an issue and would always have stopped us consistently competing at the top of the table until properly addressed, even if our forwards were as free-scoring as they were last season. Outscoring teams like that nearly every game is unsustainable and draining. Totally agree about the midfield, would maybe like to see us try something a little different in the upcoming games and play McGinn in a more central role to create a middle 3 as opposed to to the ‘double pivot’ that doesn’t really pivot. Hopefully Kamara can be fit enough though to get back into the side ASAP🤞🏻some tactical tweaks needed to freshen this up and we need to cut out this ridiculous situation where we’re consistently vulnerable on the break from our own corners! UTV 🦁
100% correct about taking Bailey off and brining Jaden on. As soon as that change was made you knew we were not going to create much more. Last season it was Diaby that would have come on, or Bailey on for Diaby. Jaden has no pace, too weak, can't go past a man. I hope he grows into a prem player, but at the mo, bringing him on is like us holding up the white flag.
I don't think Jaden is good enough for the Prem just yet in my opinion! 🙈 I thought he was going to be a great signing when we got him back from Hull based on his performances last season but he's just not delivered on the whole for me unfortunately! 😭
You are spot on with "All the goals we're conceding are exactly the same". It's so poor, and Unai has to take responsibility for me. Pau has been poor defensively. His passing is brilliant, and he's press resistant, but he's not a top defender; winning duels and making well-timed tackles. Really missing Mings' for these qualities and his leadership/organisation. Have to sell Diego and invest in central defence. Ironically (with Kamara and Onana injured) Barrenechea would have been perfect in the '6'
Good summing up of today’s game Luke I been to the game today & I think Unai has to take a look at is team selection midfield was unbalanced two young fullbacks were left wanting at times Bailey isn’t doing anything for the team for me wasteful & he wasn’t on is own it’s time to bring Mings back in he’s a good organiser at the back & talks to players in front of him my personal opinion teams know how to play against us now we play forwards & backwards to much it must be so frustrating playing up front for villa Ollie makes runs & the ball goes backwards for the opposition it must be so easy at times because we build up slowly the loose the ball then we have to work our socks off to win the ball back McGinn is being played out of position he looks lost at times the players to me don’t look committed like they were last season are they despondent with Unai who seams to loose is control in the technical area at times & shows is disapproval with certain players & in my opinion that’s not good.
Was dreading this match. Only saw highlights, but a few of our players look so slow and leggy. Just glad we didn’t lose like we used to when Gerrard was manager. We need to click again like last year. Don’t think teams fear us as they did. UTV
The XG of goals conceded for Villa has to be at least 2 these days. I'd drop Torres for Mings. Torres is not a premier league defender. He's a la liga defender. Great passing, but he'd get shoved off the ball by a 10 year old
@Omi_xo Torres is so central to our style of play that he's not going to be dropped, no matter what. We're not progressing with a back four of Cash, Konsa, Torres and Digne. The next step for this side is to cement a place in the top 4 each season. If we can't do that, we're going nowhere because we can't spend any money and will have to consistently sell our best players. That back 4 doesn't take us to the next step.
@sjtdxitditsitdurzirxur5926 I agree! That's why I wanted Zeze and Branthwaite... Kosta - Konsa - Branthwaite - Maatsan? Whatever the back 4, maybe, it needs to stay the same for cup games, league games, and every game to form an understanding of play - having a CDM who isn't always injured is really important, with a box to box midfielder like Onana beside him and a creative midfielder beside him..
Our left and right sides are dead... Rogers in the center is also a problem. He does well with the ball 3/5 times and doesn't do the basics within football. He needs to go on the left. MCG or Tielesman can operate better in the #10 role. That RW position is absolutely pathetic - probably get a youth player there and hope for the best because Jaden and Bailey aren't top 4 level. Watkins is showing great signs of his pressing game again.. Kosta and Maatsan need to be our fullbacks cause that's the future of the club? With Sil included as Unai said, he is the future Pau?
Spot on with everything luke. Very frustrating to watch today. The crowd didn’t help the atmosphere wasn’t there it was so flat from the start the worst I’ve witnessed at villa park ❤️🇮🇪
I was stood with the nutters in the Holte end today .There was a guy behind me who refused to cheer when we scored the second equaliser .He did not have a good word to say about any of our players.
The other problem is Unai is desperate for Bailey to come good again. It was probably his best game. Trouble is unai’s changes are not as effective as the early season when we have ended up behind and come back. I am hoping Louie Barry is given a chance come January.
You can see that they had runners once they won the ball and we unfortunately have no one with any pace at the back except Maatsen and if he’s forward then he has no chance
Hi Luke I love your reaction and fully agree with everything your saying i was watching the game and so frustrated at what I was seeing Where's our team gone defensive mess
Cool clear heads are required, along with perspective. We are having a blip and it won't last forever. Keep faith in Unai and the long term project, it will come right. Just to double down on one of your points Luke, reference Bailey and voicing disapproval... We all know what it feels like to be criticised, it's no different for a football player. If someone feels got at and is feeling low already, the net result is often a spiral of things getting worse. Whereas if you maintain encouragement and support the turn around is quicker, in so much as you usually end up with a positive turnaround in a shorter space of time. Manage expectations folks, we are in a great place.
Assuming Professor Emery is going through the same analysis every week, just what is going wrong. Just hope we get our act together for Juventus. Could be embarrassing.
I'm Actually Getting slightly Concerned I'm sure we will snap out of it But this is certainly a bad patch Were Villa Though so weve seen worse and I would say we have to improve really A point is better than the loss and we were probably the better team over all UTV
I think we have to remember that our defence has been changed and adjusted so many times this season. How many times have we started with the same back four personnel? There has been no consistency or stability. Cash & Konsa have been injured. Mings is coming back after a long and difficult injury. Torres is more of a playmaker than a defender. Carlos has been erratic in his performances. Our midfield is completely changed from last season with little continuity of personnel recently. Barkley & Onana have been injured. Kamara is coming back from a king and difficult injury. We’re just not settled at all. We’re asking a lot of Rogers & Watkins each week. Bailey’s form has dipped. Philogene looks like a Championship player. And Duran isn’t getting enough game time to establish any rhythm. It’s no wonder we are conceding transitional goals as we are a team in transition trying to integrate lots of new and returning players!
It seems whenever we play a high line with Diego Carlos in the defence we are pretty much guaranteed to concede, especially against rapid attackers like Sarr. Missing Konsa today. Apart from that some of the other performances were worrying also. Bailey is really trying my patience now. That first chance he had at getting at Palace's defence for him to just give the ball away so easily really made me mad. The point I feel is a relief, and at home to Palace I shouldn't be saying that.
We haven’t defended well since February when the Louiz Kamara partnership was broken with Bouba’s injury. Why we didn’t address the right side of defence instead of signing left backs is baffling. The conceding on transition is basic stuff especially when we win a corner and get run down the pitch in one on ones. Emery has to sort this .
Criminal mate how do we concede from our own corners 2 games in row same mistakes week after week puzzling. We got a leadership issues too. Either we rectify it or we loose our season.
The chances we create and don't finish will hurt us in the long run we should have learned from liverpool the way we get caught open is crazy there is no communication whatsoever from cdm to Martinez we have to learn from this. UP THE VILLA🦁🦁🦁
That RB position is going to haunt us all season unless we spend in the Jan window. I'm trying to stay positive but one or two more key injuries and we are in trouble. Do we now give everything to the CL and finish mid table? Or without Europe again next season are we going to have money issues without selling some key players? This Christmas period is going to be a rollercoaster. Let's hope we are all smiling again come New year. UTV.
We were at our best when Kamara was bedded into the side, linking up so well with Pau. As soon as kamara got injured last season we’re have looked extremely vulnerable. Personally I’d give Kosta a run until he’s up to speed and only play konsa at centre back. I also agree with some of the comments about playing mattssen in midfield, could be a great partnership with Digne. Roger’s is not a no.10 We are also lacking some belief, if we can just get a decent run together I’m sure we can start to climb the table again
Can we now at least admit Emery is getting this wrong? Its structural and i understand that he has to be brave and ambitious to give us a chance of overachieving... But lets be frank. Yesterday was no different to any other game. This two system building up in a 2-3 rather than a 3-2 is ruining everything especially with Rogers at 10. Alex berwick did some analysis on this and i agree with it - it is structucal and it is intentional and it's therefore what Unai wants Im just not sure why we can't play more like we did last year in build up. I feel like now when we lose the ball we have less players able to get back and support Great analysis on the first goal Luke. I didnt realise it was quite that high in the ground. It's ridiculous I really hope we go back to the basics of Unais first season. If Mings is fit he comes back in for Carlos with the sole job of leading, heading and booting everything. Cash comes in now and if hes fit he starts We need a proper 10- i dont care how he does it. Either play mcginn there for play buendia into form but we cannot continue with this rogers watkins combo... Yes on the break it works but we have ZERO pressure like we did previously. We'd pass teams to death but with Rogers we can't string 3-4 passes around the box.We are so much easier to play against
I thought Barkley and tielamans would work, but it looks like it needs to be one or the other starting. If kamara or onana aren't fit then someone who can play the CDM role needs to be found. Also digne starts if we don't have the CDM position working.
Suddenly We haven’t got any leaders on the pitch. The defence lacks the pace to play this high. And our attacking players can’t or won’t try to beat their man. Pace is literally killing us at both ends.
Tbf on Unai today we had no defensive midfielder. Tielimans not Barkley are a defensive mid, they can’t protect the defence like a Onana or Kamara. Our defence looks too old and slow for the prem atm.
I think Pau was pushed out a bit farther left to facilitate Matsen being high & wide on the left giving us the width there. But overall it was torturous to watch. I can't believe the coaches haven't done anything to adapt our defensive positions from set pieces - it's basically a free run on goal on the break & we keep giving these easy goals away - it's ridiculous! They need to sort it out!
Passing was poor! Defence was all over the place! Just like the Liverpool game and other games before, we get caught on the break! We missed the penalty and they run up the other end of the pitch and score! Definitely needs looking at in January! We also need another winger, as Bailey has been off it! We have no other wingers, apart from Philogene! Definitely not going to finish 4th this season. I personally think we’ll finish around 6th or 7th. but in Emery we trust! UTV.
our form is as dismal as the weather. Injuries are really affecting our results. we never have a defence that plays week in week out as result we suffer real understanding at the back. its turning into a Newcastle season. The team we had should have been good enough to beat an average palace team. Lets hope we can get some more quality in January.
If nobody is pressing the ball we can't be defending with a high line. Two passes and they're clean through from the half way line. Time after time. Lucky we didn't loose by a lot more. UTV
I think Unai’s focus was the getting into better places offensively- the pivots’ focus was very offensive as Luke pointed out. I really think Emery’s focus was on possession & offense coming into the game. Now a fair bit of his focus is going to be on defensive transition in training after this exposing performance. Defensive tactics definitely needs sharpened & focused. Bogarde was an odd decision & not the right one, certainly.
You have to start questioning Emery, he hasn’t changed anything he needs to change it up as this isn’t working, I’m starting to think there’s players out there that look unhappy like they are burnt out from the tactical demands, January & the summer we need to move some players on.
We have absolutely no chance whatsoever of winning the next 2 games. Which would be 1 win in 9. I don't think he's sorting it out. We look lost, like Arsenal did when he was managing there. I think he's done. I'm not calling for his head, but I give him 5 more matches to sort this.
Greg Evans of the Athletic said 2 weeks ago that Douglas Luiz and Kamara are a better midfield pairing than we currently have. I think that's a huge understatement! A fully fit Kamara and Luiz are a million miles ahead of any midfield pairing we have now
@YoungWolf-g3t Onana has been subbed off at half time in the majority of the games he's played. He's clearly a level below both Luiz and Kamara. Tielemens is a very good player, but he's also a level below Luiz.
We’re doing ‘a City’ of trying to play the control/high press thing but guaranteed to give up several big big chances every game. And in these elite competitions we’re playing week in week out, every team has pace and finishers to hurt you. It doesn’t matter how much possession, xG, completed passes, territory we have if easily getting exposed on each transition the opposition get. Our defenders don’t have the recovery pace or, sorry, even the intelligence to offer protection when playing like this. In fairness, there are few defenders in world football that can. It’s such high risk football. City are the case in point. We’re a good team. Clearly. But it needs to adapt because we’re too easy to play against just now.
To be fair we have been doing this since we played CP in the cup; Tottenham did it to us and so did Liverpool. Other teams know how we play and they are easily beating our high line. Emery must be aware of this but we are not addressing it on the field. I suppose if we had scored the penalty and taken our other chances we would not be talking about this.
Even if we won that, it was an absolute shambles to watch. Again, putting someone who's not a RB in that position and it's painful to watch. Boguarte isn't even league 1 standard. the guy was so bad against young boys he was dragged off but somehow is better than the 2 RB's on the bench. Sqaure pegs in round holes. I genuinely laughed when their second went it, comical. Clearly Unai not learning his lessons at corners I'd like to see the passing charts/patterns of the last few games as our passing is so bad, how many times do we lose the ball or misplace a simple pass. Rodgers needs his ego in check, stop the Hollywood football sometimes just a simple pass is all he needs, always trying to do something and then loses the ball.
Well we did not lose… But 100% agree the defence is not quite right at the moment & teams have worked us out… However we look at it we need a quality right sided defender & missing the links in midfield… Funny old season so far… We do have too much sloppy play too, which annoys UTV
The defence can be improved if we just stick with Ezri Konsa at CB! When fit he plays RB way to much and we loose so much in the centre compared to what we gain. Kamara getting back fully fit will help a lot too as him and Onana can hold, which will then free up Tielemens or McGinn to play further forward.
To put it simply we are missing kamara !!! Need cash fully fit, and konsa in Central defence. Need a right back in transfer window and a centre back. UTV 💜 💙
Brilliant analysis Luke couldn’t agree more. Bailey actually was much better, Watkins was good. Just need to tighten up. Teams are not having to play well against us at the moment to get points off us, I thought Liverpool were bang average, palace too. We’re being almost suicidal at times. Focus on stopping the transitions & being compact. Plenty of football to play UTv
Can’t remember the last time you have said “tragic” and “seething” on the same podcast, Luke. Not happy days right now hopefully The Villa can find a way out of this hole and quick as Juve is next. UTV.
We need pace on the wings to play the high line like last to seasons with bailey and diaby , also dougie is a loss aswell,in jan we need 3/4 players 2 wingers ,a cb,and a rb
As difficult as our (palace’s) season has been so far, Emery has a habit of setting up perfectly for Glasner, but I think most of that has to do with the CB’s you’ve had available. Carlos looked like a massive weakness in both of our matches against you in your setup against us. Our attackers press aggressively from the front & he has struggled to pass his way through them. I think with Konsa fit, you would’ve beaten us here & maybe in the cup. But Mateta & Sarr on the counter against Carlos always looked like it was heading one way
What I haven't got is Onana ....don't understand why we bought him? Up till now he hasn't given us a full 90 , his maximum effort is 45 minutes of decent football. OK he didn't play today but if we play our best football or our better performances have been when Bouba is fit then why didn't we keep Barrenchea who is a like for like for Bouba?. Instead of Spunking £50m on Nana we could have brought in a Better RB and decent CB .

McGinn needs to either go in as the 10 and move Roger’s out wide, or McGinn has to come out the team, Bailey looked more of a threat but he’s struggling with not having Cash at RB in my opinion Torres is quality on the ball but defensively he’s been bad and Carlos isn’t good enough

Fair play to Bailey who took responsibility for a bad Bogarde pass. Very humble. We'll be ok with people like that in our team
What is the point in attempting this possession based game, when the other team only needs 20% of the ball to beat us. It’s ridiculous
Overall we can do it, but we're making mistakes
We did have a lot of chaos points at corners that all fell their way, on another day thats 2 goals

Cheers mate
Ground Duels: 48% to 52%
Dispossessed 12 to 6
Tackles Won: 56 to 73%

You thought Barkley was having. A good game? I saw him being slow and poor in he’s choices and build up. Not sure he’s a solid defence mid

the trouble to me is, it's a differnet lineup every week. kamara out, onana in, barkley in , onana out. we need to get a consistent 11 on the pitch for more than a game or two.
I agree Luke about Bailey. I’m frustrated with him this season but still back him when he’s playing. We have to get behind the team and stop giving off negativity. The team is going through a poor patch but we need to support them even stronger and realise what we’ve done these last 2 seasons
Mate, it’s actually terrifying watching us try to defend ! And it’s nothing new, it’s been like this all season.

It's terrible. It's as bad as any relegation sides back 4. It's awful. And it's awful game after game after game. It's not improving. If anything, it's getting worse.
@@geraldmorris4286it’s beyond ridiculous, surely Emery sees this ? So why isn’t it improving ?
@stuhector3511 I don't know. I can only compare it to when he was manager of Arsenal towards the end. They were conceding goals for fun for several games, and they just got worse until they sacked him. I can't explain what's going on. The problem is our defence looked bad with Gerrard and Dean Smith, we turned around with Emery for a while but we have looked dodgy in defence all season now but we aren't scoring enough to compensate as of late. I'm not sure he can sort it. It happened with PSG, too. I'm worried
When our CBs don't play well we don't play well.. we find ourselves having to score 3 goals to win games. Defensively we are a shambles
I am surprised you didnt mention how poor Rogers was, he just couldnt hold up the ball and lost it consistently. Barkley was class!
UTV
Yeah wasn't his best
Rogers was awful surprised he wasn't taken off .
@@leemills5916nevertheless he set up a sitter for Watkins, but he was somewhere else like always
I watched Italy v France in the week, Digne was excellent, two wonderful crosses for the two headed French goals and a
free kick which hit the bar before going in off the goalkeeper's back, yet he comes back to us and can't make the team.
Thanks Stephen
RE Digne - I think it's because Unai expected to be able to beat Palace with Maatsen, resting Digne for Juventus.
UTV
19 goals conceded....more than anyone bar Brentford in the top 15
He’s the world’s #1 but relying on Emi to make world class stops just to save us a point so often’s unfair to him
I think Kosta has to be Cash’s competition soon too. If cash doesn’t start or needs switching Emery should give him an opportunity; his recovery pace could possibly help dealing with these transitions
Villa have completed lost their way
I've said for many months that we didn't strengthen our defence in the summer window. This error by the management is now glaring obvious.
We're becoming bang average.
Analysis was so spot on!
Thankyou
UTV
The defence is turning into a serious cause of concern atm.. it seems we are giving away really poor goals every game.. no worldies or good play just basic errors.. .
Cheers mate
Hopefully the gaffer realizes soon.
i thought bogarde did quite well, not sure why we took him off. Also not sure why we chose tielemans to take the pen

Dude, calm down, we barely overachueved, not even halfway through the season like calm down, im certain we get top 5
he deserves to be called out for things like this though. he is not immune to criticism
Looking at other teams around us, Tottenham, Chelsea etc. we are way beyond their performances at the moment.
We did mate, un done by defensive naivety..

The XG of goals conceded for Villa has to be at least 2 these days.
I'd drop Torres for Mings. Torres is not a premier league defender.
He's a la liga defender. Great passing, but he'd get shoved off the ball by a 10 year old
Unai's style of play is based on a good GK and back four.
I don't know why he hasn't built his preference there yet, build from the back right?

We all know what it feels like to be criticised, it's no different for a football player. If someone feels got at and is feeling low already, the net result is often a spiral of things getting worse.

Assuming Professor Emery is going through the same analysis every week, just what is going wrong. Just hope we get our act together for Juventus. Could be embarrassing.
All the Premier league know how poor we are in defence and we were the same last year.

Part of the problem, we don't have a settled defence
We do need kamara and onana back asap
Criminal mate how do we concede from our own corners 2 games in row same mistakes week after week puzzling. We got a leadership issues too. Either we rectify it or we loose our season.

Or without Europe again next season are we going to have money issues without selling some key players?
This Christmas period is going to be a rollercoaster. Let's hope we are all smiling again come New year. UTV.

We are absolutely unrecognisable from last season. I don’t understand what’s going on. UTV
Me neither! 😭
Roger’s is not a no.10
We are also lacking some belief, if we can just get a decent run together I’m sure we can start to climb the table again
Alex berwick did some analysis on this and i agree with it - it is structucal and it is intentional and it's therefore what Unai wants
Im just not sure why we can't play more like we did last year in build up. I feel like now when we lose the ball we have less players able to get back and support
Great analysis on the first goal Luke. I didnt realise it was quite that high in the ground. It's ridiculous
I really hope we go back to the basics of Unais first season. If Mings is fit he comes back in for Carlos with the sole job of leading, heading and booting everything.
Cash comes in now and if hes fit he starts
We need a proper 10- i dont care how he does it.

We need Onana or Kamara for sure that's now clear in my mind
Arsenal fan here. Your right, Emery cant organize a defence.
There's no natural leader back there. The defence should really be able to organise itself.
UTV.
Torres is not a defender. An excellent reader of the game, play him as a defensive midfielder
our form is as dismal as the weather. Injuries are really affecting our results. we never have a defence that plays week in week out as result we suffer real understanding at the back. its turning into a Newcastle season. The team we had should have been good enough to beat an average palace team. Lets hope we can get some more quality in January.
If the defence don’t get their shit together, Dibu will leave. But defending starts with the midfield cover and we missed Onana and Kamara so much.
Hit the button again, Luke with this one. Am terrified Juventus will tear us up and embarrass us on Wed. 😕
I personally think we will be okay Wednesday mate
@@UTVFANCHANNEL 🤞
If nobody is pressing the ball we can't be defending with a high line. Two passes and they're clean through from the half way line. Time after time. Lucky we didn't loose by a lot more. UTV
Spot on
The defending on transistion again 🤦🏼♀️
We got a point at least.
UTV 💜 💙
I think Unai’s focus was the getting into better places offensively- the pivots’ focus was very offensive as Luke pointed out. I really think Emery’s focus was on possession & offense coming into the game. Now a fair bit of his focus is going to be on defensive transition in training after this exposing performance. Defensive tactics definitely needs sharpened & focused. Bogarde was an odd decision & not the right one, certainly.
Thanks mate
You have to start questioning Emery, he hasn’t changed anything he needs to change it up as this isn’t working, I’m starting to think there’s players out there that look unhappy like they are burnt out from the tactical demands, January & the summer we need to move some players on.
Emery will sort it out don't worry.big game on weds.
We have absolutely no chance whatsoever of winning the next 2 games. Which would be 1 win in 9. I don't think he's sorting it out. We look lost, like Arsenal did when he was managing there. I think he's done. I'm not calling for his head, but I give him 5 more matches to sort this.
@ I’m not calling for him to go but there’s something going on, have the players stopped playing for him? is there a problem behind the scenes?

@@LG26 what like city!
14 goals now for Louie Barry!!!
Greg Evans of the Athletic said 2 weeks ago that Douglas Luiz and Kamara are a better midfield pairing than we currently have. I think that's a huge understatement!
A fully fit Kamara and Luiz are a million miles ahead of any midfield pairing we have now
Onana and Youri is a class pairing, Luiz and Kamara offered something different that's all.
Great comment mate
Clearly Unai not learning his lessons at corners
I'd like to see the passing charts/patterns of the last few games as our passing is so bad, how many times do we lose the ball or misplace a simple pass.
Rodgers needs his ego in check, stop the Hollywood football sometimes just a simple pass is all he needs, always trying to do something and then loses the ball.
the whole right side looks out of sync this season (RCB, RB, RM)
no matter who plays 😂
Well we did not lose… But 100% agree the defence is not quite right at the moment & teams have worked us out…
However we look at it we need a quality right sided defender & missing the links in midfield…
Funny old season so far…
We do have too much sloppy play too, which annoys
UTV
Thanks Alan
The defence can be improved if we just stick with Ezri Konsa at CB!
When fit he plays RB way to much and we loose so much in the centre compared to what we gain.
Kamara getting back fully fit will help a lot too as him and Onana can hold, which will then free up Tielemens or McGinn to play further forward.
Cheers mate
To put it simply we are missing kamara !!! Need cash fully fit, and konsa in Central defence. Need a right back in transfer window and a centre back. UTV 💜 💙
Brilliant analysis Luke couldn’t agree more. Bailey actually was much better, Watkins was good. Just need to tighten up. Teams are not having to play well against us at the moment to get points off us, I thought Liverpool were bang average, palace too. We’re being almost suicidal at times. Focus on stopping the transitions & being compact. Plenty of football to play UTv
Cheers mate
They caught us on the counter ❤
Cash on the bench when fit is bonkers luke, emerys baffling me, quite concerning tbh
That's the place for him, he is so rash in tackles. When I see him running towards a player in our box I tense up
Can’t remember the last time you have said “tragic” and “seething” on the same podcast, Luke. Not happy days right now hopefully The Villa can find a way out of this hole and quick as Juve is next. UTV.
Cheers mate
But Mateta & Sarr on the counter against Carlos always looked like it was heading one way
Cheers mate
What I haven't got is Onana ....don't understand why we bought him?
Up till now he hasn't given us a full 90 , his maximum effort is 45 minutes of decent football.
OK he didn't play today but if we play our best football or our better performances have been when Bouba is fit then why didn't we keep Barrenchea who is a like for like for Bouba?.
Instead of Spunking £50m on Nana we could have brought in a Better RB and decent CB .
Ahaha, let's play a third of season without a holding midfielder!
The club needs criticism for transfers in summer 150million on players that aren't even on the pitch, but didn't buy right side defenders and didn't replace Luiz diaby creativity and it's incompetence ffs
McGinn needs to either go in as the 10 and move Roger’s out wide, or McGinn has to come out the team, Bailey looked more of a threat but he’s struggling with not having Cash at RB in my opinion
Torres is quality on the ball but defensively he’s been bad and Carlos isn’t good enough
Unfortunately fans have lost all patience with Bailey. He has had 4 years with us and been dismal for 3 off them
he played well today! you complete muppet
